Can PTCL VDSL / FTTH guys post a trace route to CloudFlare's DNS (1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1)? shaheerk

PTCL users are getting 40 ms to CloudFlare, whereas Transworld is still on 100 ms, and sending them a trace route comparison would possibly help in us getting lower latency on it as well.

EDIT: Nevermind. PTCL is routing through Dubai, hence the 40 ms ping to CloudFlare. I would recommend switching to it, far better than Google's DNS.

Pls tell us which city you are from because it can be a local issue. There was a thunder storm like 5 min ago in Rawalpindi but now everything has settled down so my net is back to normal.

I've seen 60ms on DSL, but on my fiber connection? I've complained to PTCL to fix my pings (and resultantly, UK websites are now pinging at 300ms!)

Tracing route to one.one.one.one [1.1.1.1]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

So while the route itself is correct (peering through Etisalat UAE), the pings are significantly higher than usual, try this trace route during the day and it'll probably be much lower. It was just around 40 ms a while back.

It's 9.33 AM on Saturday, and... nope.

Trace complete.

Apparently, it's happening with me and another (possibly fiber?) connection I tested elsewhere. It's not happening with DSL connections. Why? I have no idea. It's also not happening on Nexlinx's network tools page (in case you don't know, it's their version of the Looking Glass - lg.nexlinx.net.pk - which lets you do some TW and PIE-related tests).

One more thing: Cloudfare's DNS doesn't support eDNS - in short, the DNS server won't give you the IPs which it thinks are closer to you. Yes, 1.1.1.1 is taking you to the UAE but try pinging ax.itunes.apple.com - and you get an IP that's elsewhere. Whereas for Google, OpenDNS or your local ISP's DNS, it would redirect you to your local Akamai mirror. OTOH, sometimes, your local ISP's DNS server doesn't give you the best IP, and sometimes, Google/OpenDNS don't give you the best IP - but you have a better chance with Google's.

Cloudfare, as part of their privacy pact, won't give IPs nearer to your "internet location".

It's more or less the same route, just higher pings, probably due to congestion, same issue that TW is having during peak hours with AWS servers.
It's the same route, just high pings because of congestion at NTT where PTCL has direct peering. Very similar to TW peering with OmanTel that also faces congestion during peak hours.
Is there any solution for this? Because im facing these high pings all the time now. No restart or time of day fixes it whatsoever.

Maybe restricted to a specific IP pool?

Whenever you restart, are you assigned one from the same pool or a different one?

No solution, except waiting. It's just random, my connection would flip between 39.40 and 182.90 pools, sometimes one pool would have good pings, and sometimes the other pool. It was very frustrating to keep restarting to get an IP from the desired pool.

There's no way to explain this to customer support, and it was very inconsistent, so it was basically a gamble, whenever I would game I would just hope the pings were decent at the time.

Not necessarily since that pool might give you good pings at first, but then will also turn to shit shortly after, so you'll have to spend most of your time getting them to change your IP pools, a request that they don't normally entertain.

okay then most probably getting rid of ptcl and now going for cable net is what is the only option. Too bad they dont listen to customers and will only learn once loosing revenue. Thanks for your help.
