For moving around and use as a portable device, yeah I would say a phone works 10x better than any of these cheap MBB devices. However, getting a phone that supports 3xCA and 256QAM (for Jazz) would be far more expensive than a used unlocked MBB device.

Phone would still need PTA approval though. In fact, even my Huawei box needed to be approved.
what cheap phone comes in your mind for zong 4g+ ca hotspot?

can you please check and rell if it supports ca 4g+ on zong sim?
I'm in Rawalpindi, device is not in the same city so I can't check.

Zong CA should work though, since it's a UK device and B1+B3 CA is very common in the UK. Zong and Jazz are most probably fully compatible, I'd only be concerned about Telenor.

For the best compatibility, an old flagship Samsung phone. Galaxy S9/S9+, Note 9 or S10.

A Series could also work, but aside from A5x series or A7x series, I don't think the lower-end models support anything higher than 2CA.

Check the IMEI on https://dirbs.pta.gov.pk/ and see what the status is. If it's not approved, then you can either pay to get it approved or have it patched from a local shop.

Yes, Samsung released LTE-A capable Galaxy S5 and Note 4 in certain markets after the launch of the earlier models, but there's no guarantee that they support the right CA combos. All early LTE-A phones were very limited in capability and only supported the combos of the carriers they were meant to run on.

Why all this hassle? Just get PTA approved Zong's Unlocked 4G+ device from market. Its easy to carry. I think these devices called BOLT+

Thanks so much brother. I was able to find out through tour instructions that my phone is indeed approved.
its a snapdragon note 4, how to check if it supports 2 way ca? I read mentions of network monster app, how to understand if the app shows ca?

ideally your case would be valid, but in faisalabad i couldnt find online sellers, and had trouble finding them in the market, but tbh i just asked superficially.
In my case, luckily rs 850 battery revived this 6 years old phone and i hit the jackpot!

You won't find online in Fsd. I bought couple of times from rex city. When you enter rex city street from chen one road, at the end of the street last 3-4 shops sale unlocked devices. I remember shop name was randhawa electronics or computers.

Insert Zong or Jazz SIM, start a download or run speedtest in the background, open dialer and dial *#0011# and post screenshot here. Although you'll see if CA is enabled if the phone shows '4G+' icon on the top instead of just 4G.

hey idk why but my note 4 verizon version n910v doesnt show these codes. neither the *#06# nor *#0011# works. It says imm code is invalid. What could be the issue? Or can i check ca via another method?

CDMA phones usually had different codes and *#06# was purely for GSM phones once upon a time.

That said, you have a Verizon variant, so maybe that could be the reason. Try flashing a generic firmware and see if that works.

would that require a root?

I forgot about this. Old Samsung phones (older than S7) had specific firmware for each carrier model and there was no universal or unlocked firmware for the US variants so you're stuck with the carrier branded firmware of whatever variant you got, Verizon in your case. One of the less desirable models to be stuck with, right after the Sprint model (SM-N910P).

A bunch of ServiceMode codes are disabled on Verizon, Sprint and AT&T firmware and no easy way to get around unless you root the phone, which was a bit complicated on every variant except SM-N910T because they all had permanently locked bootloaders.

NetMonster app might work since the phone is Snapdragon based, you could try that as an easy alternative.
