So I finally got around to complaining about Jazz. Sent them an email, and complained with PTA as well, so that they actually do some work.

I complained this morning, but my dad got this message yesterday:

Spoiler: show

I just got this message now:

Spoiler: show

Coincidence? Or just one of those generic messages that means absolutely nothing and everyone in Bahria will be stuck with crap 4G forever and 0 bars of indoor coverage.

Telenor gone crazy.

Seeing current indoor 4g coverage and speed, i hardly reach even 4GB cap.. even in outdoors on full signal bars, speed barely gets above 5 Mbps. If telenor isn't in the mood to fix their network, their packages won't be of any use.. also taxes are back, so a nice cherry on top of current scenario ; )

Btw, any new development about volte and 4.5g?

I remember that 3G was capped to 8 Mbps back when Jazz only had 3G for prepaid connections, and it was uncapped for postpaid lines.

I thought the cap was removed after the Warid merger and LTE network upgrade, but no matter how good the signal strength is, or whether or not I have direct line of sight with the tower, speed tests on prepaid 3G will not cross 8-8.5 Mbps. Don't have any postpaid connections anymore, so can't confirm if it's uncapped on that, but if they're capping all prepaid numbers (which there are a lot more of), then they should just halve the 2100 MHz 3G spectrum at this point.

8 Mbps is easily possible with 5 MHz. Telenor can manage it, so these guys should be able to as well.

A better CA combination for Jazz would be 15 MHz B3 + 5 MHz B1.

Having 3 MHz B8 hasn't helped much, not even in Islamabad. Coverage feels exactly the same indoors. I visited the ITP Office in F8 before 900 MHz was enabled, and indoor coverage was 2 bars with almost unusable data. I visited again just a few days ago, and ServiceMode did show my phone was connected to 900 MHz this time, but there was 0 impact on coverage and speed.

Also I did complain about indoor coverage fluctuating for both 3G and 4G, and 4G speeds in Bahria on the 25th, and I got a call in the evening yesterday from someone at Jazz. He wanted to confirm my exact location and asked if the issue is happening on all devices and whether it happens during some parts of the day, or 24/7, so I explained all that and he said normally it takes 5 working days for investigation, but I'll forward your complaint on 'priority' (sounds like PTCL lol) to the Jazz technical team who will give you a call back in the coming week.

Fingers crossed that they actually do something this time. I had major PTCL downtime the other day, and Jazz's 4G was as good as having no internet at all.

Their CA doesn't exactly help in my opinion as well. The phone sees stronger band 8 connectivity but doesn't use it (signal strength wise).

As for data speeds, I, too, don't see any difference.

And only Islamabad has 4G band 8. Pindi doesn't. And their band 8 for 3G doesn't help in reducing the number of fallback to 2G midway during a call either (and it tends to drop even with strong signals).

See, speeds-wise, their 4G is fast. Voice quality wise, the amount of 3G towers they have doesn't seem to do justice (cause calls fall back to 2G when they shouldn't, really).

And as for 3G data speeds - its capped to around 9Mbps, even for us postpaid people. The official reason is due to the on boarding of Warid users, but I'm not buying that since Greenvalley has indoor antennas, connected to an external antenna, and I can't go beyond 9Mbps there (and that area isn't exactly as dense as a sector of Islamabad would be). They've completely halved the throughput and are throttling everybody on 3G.

Telenor, on a good day, with 3G, has touched 15Mbps there (I've done it). But their 4G?

I am only sticking with Mobilink because of the package. Yes, their customer service is decent (it actually is) but their network expansion/coverage gaps... Nah. Zong does it better.

A little interesting find.

I am currently standing at Sihala railway crossing and at here jazz is using different block at band 3 (check EARFCN value)

And speedtest is also quite nice at this time

So...

"Dear User, to continue using Jazz services visit your nearest Jazz Experience Center within 48 hrs for package conversion to Ex-Employee F"

Good data days are over. And so are the poor voice quality days as well (at my house, with 3G) especially since Jazz is prone to falling back down to 2G so frequently.

But 4G speeds! Man...

Yup, changed here as well. I guess that's why they messaged regarding network downtime for 2 days in Bahria. No change in performance, but they just shuffled their spectrum around.

I don't think it'll make any difference... Cause the spectrum is still the same.

See the frequency.

Yeah I checked shortly after posting. A very minor change, not sure why they bothered doing it at all.

Back to Zong now?
Technically, I have a 0303 number, so...

But I'm contemplating. I see no major reason to stay with Mobilink. It doesn't work at home, and their 2G voice seems to be taking a massive hit these days (evident on the roads).

Something is wrong with upload though, not just in your screenshot, but I've also done 3-4 speedtests today. Download is fine, but upload sucks ass.

I tried on 3G, and it was so bad that the upload speed on the test just shows as 0.00 Mbps.

PS 5 Pro announced today. While I was impressed with the value - 4K at 60 FPS in quality mode for recent games, the price is too high. PS4 Pro cost just $399 at launch. The price of the PS5 Pro version seems to show Sony is returning to its haughty attitude of the PS3 era. I think the console with a disk drive will cost $1000-$1200 in Pakistan. For most, PC gaming onlyis increasingly becoming a more attractive proposition.

They could have shipped all these SP sequels on PC as well. But they wanted a piece of the PC market AND the live service market at the same time. I think that turned out a bit too much for them.

Aside from this, Sony and PS5 could have been great even with sequels to existing games like Ghost of Tsushima, Uncharted, GOW, TLOU, Infamous, LBP/Sackboy, maybe dead ones like Resistance, Jak, etc. It seems that they've been trying to focus on the live service model instead at the cost of SP games and exclusivity. It hasn't worked out well (except for Helldivers 2) and most of this gen is over. I don't see the point of this divergence from their established brand and strategy, especially at the cost of new SP games, few of which will now see the light of day this gen.

Sure, big shots like RDR2 and Elden Ring are also great and I love them as much as the next person but at some level, I feel like I can get something close to that in movies and TV. There's something unique about great platformers in terms of stress-free/joyful interactivity and immersion that a heavy story or challenging gameplay doesn't have. Again, the latter is great too but the former more accurately defines gaming for me.

Astro Bot will redeem PS5 for me. Ratchet and Astro Playroom did it as well. I may have a preference for platformers but this kind of pure fun games is what gaming started out as and what remains the most enjoyable part of it for me.

Yeah, Concord & Suicide Squad were utter failures due to being woke as hell. These western devs keep digging their own graves. They don't get the message that the masses don't want woke nonsense in games (or any other entertainment medium for that matter). Japanese games are less woke than American ones, but they're still not completely woke-free because they mostly target American audience. If you want truly unwoke content, try Chinese & Korean games. Black Myth: Wukong & Steller Blade are two of the biggest hits in gaming recently, and they came from China & Korea respectively. They're all the rage these days & completely free from this woke nonsense. I reckon American studios have no future in gaming unless they change their ways. Asian studios on the other hand are on the path to success. Not only is this great for gamers in general. It is also great for us Asians.

Also, it's not just Capcom. Almost all Japanese devs are doing a stellar job and keeping the gaming world alive - FromSoft, Namco, and Nintendo. American/European developers have turned a blind eye to what gamers want and solely focus on squeezing maximum amount from gamers. They suck!

  • L LegacyGamerGuy:
I believe Sony America should shut down and converted to Sony Japan. Then we can expect good quality games and not woke propaganda. One of the reasons for failure of Concord as per Reddit comments is woke/gay characters with they/them pronouns. Same is the reason Overwatch 2 has been a failure - they are targeting the wrong target market.
