4G for Everyone: Telenor is Adding One 4G Site Every Hour

"Since Telenor Pakistan's 4G license acquisition in June 2016, it has rolled out over 3,000 LTE sites across 110+ cities in Pakistan. Karachi alone has received 600+ LTE sites with special arrangements - such as spectrum refarming and dual band usage - made for enhanced user experience of the city's LTE customers."

"Karachi alone has received 600+ LTE sites with special arrangements - such as spectrum refarming and dual band usage"

SOOOOO, THEY ADMITTED IT?!

On a more serious note, one 4G site per hour seems more like some BS marketing statistic, however, it is good to know they're expanding, unlike Jazz....

As to why they haven't upgraed RWP/ISL yet. Why you ask? Because Jazz HQ is here and this should've been their first area to upgrade so they could use it as sort of a 'showing off' trophy and advertise similar upgrades in other cities as coming soon. Not upgrades small cities and be quiet about it, then proceed to give false timelines about when the upgrade will be complete for bigger cities.
We were told in MID AUGUST that RWP/ISL would be upgraded by October, and here we are, October is almost over now, and there are just regular outages of the tower here where 4G signals will randomly drop to 1 bar, or switch to EDGE, but each time they come back, nothing changes.

Why not announce SCHEDULED downtime by notifying the customers with a text message saying 4G services will be unavailable during certain days/hours and then complete their upgrades and testing then. Not this half-assed 'jab marzi tower band karlein, hamari testing ho rahi hai'.

You think PTCL is inefficient, at least they're doing something, and there's proof of it.
Lol. HQ is in Islamabad doesn't mean Isl has birth right to get everything first.

And its not a simple math that they can calculate how much time or interest it will cost to upgrade. Its a network and it faces some unforseen issues while upgrading.

And as far as outages are concerned, same thing happened in Fsd before upgrading. 4G signals played hide n seek without any result for at least a month when finally it upgraded.

Lol. 1 cell site per hour since acquisition. One day has 24 hours mean 24 cell sites in one day. Means 2400 cell sites in 100 days and more than 8000 in one year.

And from April 2016 to till now they managed to upgrade 3000 cell sites. And they yet not fully covered any big city like Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpimdi/Islamabad or Faisalabad. Ch.... Bana rahay hyn yeh sab mill kar.

Lol. This means 2880 cell sites in one year. Telenor has approximately 14K-15K cell sites in Pakistan (they are only operators with low power cell sites). And to cover all Pakistan into 4G they need full 5 years. Means rural areas will get Telenor 4G in 2021. What a pace.

Zong converted 13K cell sites into 4G in 3 years and 3 months (September 2014-December 2017). And they expanded 3G along with 4G as well during this time only.

Yeah I know. Buy the way they are saying 1 cell site per hour seems like a very fast pace and gives a feel that they will complete 4G rollout within a year. But reality is lol

LOL
PCI 376 been acting funny again today.

But Zafar bhai doesn't like my complaints and seems to think that this sort of leisurely slow pace for expansion is good for Jazz and that one month per city is reasonable.

Lol I agree. Jazz is bhaving stupidly slow. How much time it takes just to turn off a cell site for few minutes and replace an older 5 MHz with a new 15 MHz frequency? It is as simple as 1+1=2. Don't know why they making it like 11. Right?

murtaza12 shaheerk Is Warid 2G still available in network search or only Mobilink 2G?

This means they still need to turn off 2G spectrum before turning off 5 MHz 4G spectrum.

So first wait for 2G merger before getting 15 MHz 4G.

Recent development, but before I continue, for those of you who don't know, network name on prepaid SIMs says Jazz, on postpaid it still says Mobilink.

Yesterday I did a network search when 4G signals were unstable and the following showed up in the list:
Spoiler: show

Mobilink (410 01)
Telenor (410 06)
Ufone (410 03)
Zong (410 04)
Jazz (410 07)

I selected Jazz, and it said 'Registered on network successfully'. The 'R' roaming icon was showing with my status bar, data wasn't working, calls and texts were not working and the network name said 'Emergency calls only'. ServiceMode however said 410-07.

At the same time, I did a network search on the phone with the Warid SIM in it, the following showed up:
Spoiler: show

Warid (410 07)
Telenor (410 06)
Ufone (410 03)
Warid (410 01)
Zong (410 04)

Now, in this case, no matter which 'Warid' I select, it registers fine, and works just fine. However, eventually after a few hours of being registered on 410 01, it does drop signals for a minute and switch back to 410 07 itself.

------------------------------------------------------------------

Today I did a network search on my phone and the following showed up:
Spoiler: show

Mobilink (410 01)
Telenor (410 06)
Ufone (410 03)
Zong (410 04)
Mobilink (410 01)

410-07 was not showing in the list, and upon clicking on the second Mobilink option, the phone stuttered for a second and then said 'Your SIM card does not allow a connection to this provider'. Then it switched back automatically to the right network. I did not have the Warid phone with me at the time so I couldn't check the status on that, however this is the first time I've seen the list without 410-07 and seen Mobilink being repeated twice with the same MCC/MNC.

Warid phone registers on both 410-07 and 410-01:
Spoiler: show

Mobilink phone won't register on 410-07 anymore, and only on 410-01. The name also changed from 'Jazz' to 'Mobilink'.

Warid numbers could register on 410-01 from the start, but renaming them both to Warid was new. I don't know how operators do it, but I remember something similar in the UK: I had a giffgaff SIM, and instead of the network search saying O2, it would say giffgaff.

But this is weird. I've seen Warid be renamed to Mobilink, but I've never seen Mobilink be renamed to Warid.

What exactly are these guys trying to do?!

Anybody have Telenor's speed test on 4G?
