Dodge mechanic, prone, squeeze/scooch through gaps/crevices in environmental geometry, craftable silencer that breaks after being used a number of times, refined listen mode, reactive and cohesive AI, more open/wider areas, new enemy types, bosses, dogs that track you by your scent!!

It looks incredible and all hands-on impressions are extremely positive. Expected no less from Naughty Dog.

That doesn’t rule out the possibility that future Naughty Dog games will feature multiplayer modes, though. Newman mentioned in this week’s interview that “attentive readers will have noticed our job postings,” likely referencing open positions for multiplayer roles at the company. The postings don’t detail which games or franchises these positions would be working on.

The lack of multiplayer is extremely disappointing for me. My hype for the game went down a notch.

Read this yesterday man and honestly I am very very disappointed... TLOU's MP is by far THE MOST underated MP game of the last gen. I have put in around 400-500 hours in factions i think. It is THAT good and I honestly was as excited for the MP as I was for the SP campaign for TLOU 2. I think we have played factions together with [MENTION=13101]Hassan[/MENTION]Aftab and another dude from Peshawar a couple of years ago too.

Their latter clarification that it might come as standalone isnt really satisfactory either, i just get the impression that there will never be an online mode for TLOU 2 which makes me really sad.

Same here man, it was an integral part of the experience for us multiplayer regulars. I just hope the standalone game isn't too far off and isn't a full priced release, because that would be a big rip-off imo.

“What I love about that encounter is Ellie’s bolt-action rifle is strong enough to shoot through multiple enemies at once,” Newman says. “So when I opened that door, and I didn’t have a mine on me, and I was like, ‘Okay, I have this game knowledge, I’m going to try to line up this shot so I can hit two enemies at once.’ And it’s kind of a rare thing, but what I did is that I was lining up a shot, and I shot through an enemy, and the angle of the shot was such that I shot through one guy, it killed them. The second runner, I hit his leg off, and the runner collapsed to the ground. We have this new system where Infected can start crawling towards you when they lose their legs, and so this one guy goes down, and then the second guy is still crawling towards me, grabbing at my leg, and I stomped him out. It was kind of a cool confluence moment of different systems.

“The one thing that I haven’t talked about enough today is the addition of doors and windows in combat,” Newman says. “It sounds like such a minor thing, but these real-world things have these very interesting, unexpected effects on combat. For example, if a dog is trying to sniff you out, they’ll get to a door, and dogs can’t open doors, and they’ll be pawing at it, and hopefully a human is there to let them in. But if they’re not, dog just doesn’t know what to do and can’t get through there. I’ve also seen with windows, first just the idea of like, you need to make an escape and so you melee the window and jump out, that’s just a cool moment in and of itself. But like when a Shambler is chasing you out onto the street and does its explosion attack, and all the windows shatter and everything breaks, and the environment reacts, that’s an awesome moment.

TLoU 2 is ND's biggest game yet, but deliberately not an open world game because they set out to tell the story they wanted without extra padding and retain the pacing of the first game.

However, it will still contain side events and optional areas to explore outside the story path.

“The story we laid out four years ago is really complex, has a large cast of characters. The core of it is simple, but where it goes and the twist and turns are complex,” he said. “We needed more time for cinematics, we needed more locations, we needed more types of enemies. So the scope of it kept growing.”But for those who might worry that bigger means possible padding, Druckmann assured me that the team intends to match the pace and flow of the original game.

“It’s not padded, it has that pacing of the first game. You’re going on this crazy, emotional, harrowing roller coaster ride that has these highs of tension and these slower, more provocative, thoughtful moments...those kind of events are sprinkled throughout the entire game,” Druckmann said, pointing to the quiet, funny conversations between Dina and Ellie I saw during my demo.

“Depending where you are with the story, we might open things up significantly and say, ‘Here are some optional things you can go explore, some side stories, or you can go directly next to where you’re meant to go,’” he said. “But the tension is not high, and as the tension ratchets up, we might tighten things up, you might play a very scripted, authored Naughty Dog setpiece. And we know we can go in both directions according to the need of the story.”

Looking forward to Factions multiplayer whenever it happens. Probably going to be some kind of a GaaS, where you build and expand your settlement and regularly go hunt for supplies in groups. Think RDR online, but not open world and more like Destiny 2 with regions and a social hub.

Would be cool if there's also a battle royale mode with the catch that once you get taken out, you become an infected (gradually transitioning between different forms the longer you survive) and are able to eliminate other players.
