Well as im a CS student i want to buy a laptop for programming and things like that but the problem is that i want a laptop which is cheap, light weight and has a good battery (as i already have a useless hp probook 4530s -_- its so heavy and thicc that i cant even lift it and it only gives one hour of battery usage)
The problem is that the only laptops that are light weight battery efficient and think are either those expensive laptops like hp spectre or lg gram, or apple macbook which sadly i cant afford : /
So recently i found out an awesome laptop by lenovo called lenovo ideapad 100s which cost only 150$ (damn ikr) it has everything i need its thin its light weight and it give about 9 hour battery usage but the problem is in its specs it has an intel atom processor and as its a mobile processor i wanna know will it handle programming well? I just want to use this laptop for university(for heavy work and gaming i have a pc) so can anyone please advice me if i should go for this laptop or not?
Specs:
2gb 1600mhz ddr3 ram
32gb ssd (also has a sd card slot so can expand storage upto 128gb)
11.6inch 768p HD glossy screen
Intel Atom Z3735F quad core CPU
Windows 10 full version

Programming is a demanding task, i am sorry to say this laptop is good for casual office work and web browsing.

There are plenty of used laptops available in market with atleast 4th gen i5 .. although not a fan as i have myself an i7 with 5th gen hp 430 and even that struggles with heavy web pages and heavy mails on outlook.

Well : / then i think ill be stuck with my probook for a while, still the problem remains that i need a light weight battery efficient laptop, most of the laptops that i found in market have some kind of battery problem in them either they have issue or dont stay more than 2-3 hours of usage : /
Hows amd apus? I think they will perform better than atom or celeron and i found some cheap amd a8 laptops in market should i go for them then? Or should i go for atleast an i3 becos my budget is alot tight : /

hunni99 what are the specs of your current 4530s ?Generally that is the battery life of most laptops 2-2.5 hrs however my probook 430 does have a very decent 4hrs life, still dont like it as the fan go bonkers when I use facebook or chrome with 12-14 tabs.amd apus again are generally designed for low end tasks and higher battery backup.

Thats the problem : / i changed my probooks battery two times and now it just gives 1.5hour of battery before shutting off unexpectedly and after 15 min of usage the laptop begins to throttle badly like a jet engine with fan : / the specs of my probook is i3 2310 with 4gb ram btw

Bro , i was in a similar situation 2 months ago .. bought a lenovo thinkpad t530 (it is heavy) for 16500.. with 4gb Ram ,250 gb HardDisk , +9Cell battery .. then after a month bought new samsung 256 gb pro evo ssd and installed my os on it ..as for hard disk installed a caddy in place of my dvd rom .. so far it has been up to any task that i throw at it .. including running multiple instances of visual studio 2013 conneted with local server via sql server management studio.. in short get any 3rd or 4th gen i5 with 4+ ram , and most important is ssd.. get a good and new one trust me you will never regret it .. (gone are the times to wait 5 minutes to open any visual studio solution) .. happy coding ..:)

Get a second hand 4th Gen i5 laptop from market. there are people both here & on other sites who regularly post used laptops. If you manage to increase the budget just by a little ($200 maybe for used?) you will be able to get a decent machine. Happy coding!!!

Can you kindly share the details from where you bought the laptop? Do they sell i7 in T530?
