Specific Laptop question

Hey guys i'll try to make this quick cause of the many other laptop topics.

I'm trying to find a good laptop for work something that will last and is durable mainly. I have $1000 maximum funding but i don't want to exceed $800 if it can be helped.

I've looked at this one:

but i hear the : ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD550v, 64-Bit is a terrible card and not worth the extra $100 not to mention the laptop has a hinge problem?

So what other laptops would be better instead of this one?

i hear the graphic card on this is much better but it has a dual display problem or something?

Edit: looked at the cards so whats the diff between NVIDIA GeForce GT 435M and the ATM 550v?

anyone at all? I'm confused as to what to get the 15R is nice but is the graphic card worth it? Or should i go with the 14R with the other graphic card? Is dell a good brand to get?

iam using the Dell inspiron 15R the Ci5 version, and iam currently playing Black ops, on maxed out settings, without a drop in FPS, yes i have the 550v GPU! the laptop is perfect for its price, but just one issue i have, is that my laptop overheats very easily while gaming, so ive made a custom cooler using old case fans, that keeps my laptop cool while gaming, i dont know if this overheating problem is with all the 15R's or just mine! Anyways, one recommendation from someone who games on his laptop is that dont buy a laptop for gaming! just my opinion!

great! thanks so much that really helps out but i'm not really into getting a laptop for gaming i just want some strong functionality like video and photo editing and some light gaming. Its good to hear the 550v is not as bad as people say.

Btw are the XPS with the 3D screens worth getting or is the insprion good enough.

yea the 550v blew my mind! sometimes the visuals seemed better than on my xbox!

and dude, its all about your preference, if you want a fancy 3D laptop, then sure go ahead, i just wanted a laptop with a modern processor, and the 15R seemed best for its price! so it all falls down to you! i can speak positively about the 15R because i own one and since ive never used an XPS i cant comment on its performance, or compare both of them! but you can consult on international forums as well!

well only reason I even asked was that getting an i5 based inspiron15r with the 55v would cost me the same as the xps15 so im looking to just get the i3 one instead but that i'm guessing would be a not too smart if i intend to use this one for a while right?

No man!! a Ci3 is as good as a Ci5 for standard user, but as your requirements from the laptop increase, so does the hardware required, so, if you plan on watching HD movies, and surfing the net, then a Ci3 would be more than enough! but if you plan in indulging yourself into some hardcore graphic designing, or music, photo and video editing, then there is no end to the better performing hardware you could opt for!

So in the end it falls down to your budget, availability, and what you require out of the laptop!

hmmm you know whats funny is that my colleague does all the photo/video editing on a 5 year old toshiba so i'm guessing i should be find with anything i get in the current market.

I eventually intend on upgrading my home PC this laptop is meant mainly for work and some light gaming and seeing as you said black ops can run great on the highest settings im quite set on getting it. I have a good budget but I don't want to spend too much on a laptop so will see what deal i end up with b/w the Ci3 and Ci5.

The last thing is regarding the screen. I've looked at the 17r and 15r screens just the diff b/w resolutions and size. How is the size of the 15r? also do HD videos come out nicely? I find the 17r not as portable (obviously!) but not having in hand im not sure. Just judging it off some videos on youtube and the fingerprint magnet of laptops? Guess i should go for the blue finish XD

It was my pleasure helping you out man, by the way when you do purchase the 15R do PM me its temps!

and the display is great, i watch only Bluray rips, and they turn out perfect on this laptop, plus, i usually hook it up on my LCD via HDMI, so it only adds to the experience!

By they way, do remember to download all the drivers from dell's website, for e.g. the Webcam and bluetooth dont work on the you stock 15R until you download the drivers!
