i'll just copy paste a quote from some one on another forum who's probably seen a lot of xbox live as well.

Some of the primary functions of XBL and Home are common, but the presentation in Home is lightyears beyond XBL, they're not even in the same galaxy.
Edit :

Phil Harrison would really like to keep Home itself cost free.

He said he hopes to keep it free, but there are many ways to make money.
MEANING: They will get the money not by charging for Home, but by other ways.

Do you want me to quote people from GAF calling home is shit and live rocks? what does that prove anyway and as i already said Home is awesome, Live is awesome home has a different form of presentation a virtual world different to Live but the game centric features are the same Achievements, Friends, Chatting, Voice Chatting, finding games etc. Home has a extra feature not related to games its like a game itself where you do virtual stuff like a MMO or to be exact like Second Life.

and you are able to play small games like pooltable, pinball etc with other people whilst in the virtual enviroment as well.

Thats what im saying, though the game features are same, besides that home is like totally different from what xbox live is. Not compareable on anything else but the 'games services' part.

and that's what i said as well
and thats just the truth, its also true that xbox live is mostly a static 2d menu based system outside of the game features. Thats that.

GDC 07: Phil Harrison says it's all about software now...

The challenges of the PS3's first few months are in the past. The age of bashing Sony is coming to an end as they get the ball rolling on the right side of the mountain (the side that, arguably, goes downward... imagine a 2D mountain. The right side is downhill, so it's easier to roll a ball. They've been pushing the ball up the left side... that's hard. Get it?) and start busting out some great ideas and some even greater games. Games are the emphasis now, Phil Harrison said. "It's all about software now, it's not about hardware. It's all about services, it's about the way the industry is changing and the way we hope to be taking a leadership position in that change."

Phil also responded to his own fantastic keynote address: "We're taking some pretty giant steps forward... The keynote here at GDC was a very, very significant moment for the evolution of PlayStation 3." He also talked about why he titled his speech "Game 3.0" and what it means for the industry: "It's something that as a platform holder we have a responsibility to grow the market, and to try and push the market. What I wanted to do here at GDC was paint a picture for where this industry should, I believe, move - which is to empower the user with user-created content. That's what I was referring to with the Game 3.0 aspect to my presentation. I hope the industry debates it and challenges it and takes it to another level beyond what we have imagined. We're just trying to kick off the debate; we're not trying to own it or control it."

Well said, Philly H. User-created content is going to be huge this console cycle, what with the internet taking over the universe in the guise of SkyNet and Time magazine labeling the collective "You" as person of the year... it's important to be narcissistic this year. What do you guys think? Is this where the industry is headed? Or should they concentrate on making fun toys instead?

lolz

live as much text as home , you know , start game , invite friend

hahaha

home is correction>> NOT << going design-wise where most gamers want it to go , i want to select my options and play , not curse at the console cause i have to go into my stupid room to do something i should really be doing anytime i want from a menu.

home is gonna bomb after a few months. its so intrusive. i`m not scared of internet , i dont want anything to be dumbed down or made casual friendly.
i love internet multiplayer i want the console stay out of my experience.

p.s. 64 player lobbies ? errrrrr.... i was hoping for a bit more than that..... a lot.

but if its going design wise where most gamers want it to go why would it even matter what your prefrence is then ?

actually , 15gb with padding and not much compression.
did you not read ted price's various comments on how resistance fit onto 17gb even after compression ? they even cut the PAL video's to drop the size from 22gb to 17gb.

as for the lobby thing, from the FAQ.

The current maximum number of concurrent
users in a single lobby is 64, but there will be a multitude of lobbies
active at any given time for users to explore.

OMG, they really need to get it to 10K minmum per lobby what's the point with only 64 people in one lobby you would have to hop around like forever looking for freinds or people wanting to play the same games or do similar stuff.

because i made a typo !! its my prefrence , home is just a 100 times magnification of the doa 4 lobby , restricted no of players and all. its gonna bomb , hope they have a backup.

actually i knew about the 64 before my first post , thats the primary reason why i wasnt so excited , 64 is not even near mmo numbers.

Home coming october.

Sony has announced plans to launch its ambitious PlayStation Home online service - announced at GDC last week - this October.

The initial download is expected to weigh in at "under 500MB", with subsequent patches "hopefully" integreated via a streaming solution "that makes them negligible".

A closed beta phase for around 15,000 users will take place between April and August, with an open beta for around 50,000 operating between August and October.

That's according to a "third party relations" question-and-answer PDF uncovered on Sony's developer website, which sheds further light on the service unveiled during Phil Harrison's GDC keynote.

Certain Home features are likely to be accessible via PlayStation Portable and mobile phone in some form, Sony said, while users can also expect to visit paid-for special events, and experience increasing levels of integration with the console's more traditional features as development accelerates.

For example, it will be possible to track down friends easily from day one, but users will only be able to seamlessly launch into multiplayer games together once Sony has finished coding that functionality.

Another element that will take time is the environment's persistence. "Currently Home is not a persistent world, so when you leave Home, all of your possessions go with you. For instance, it is not currently possible for other users to visit your apartment while you're not there," Sony said.

"We are working on the persistent aspect of Home, and expect to implement it in the long term."

Advertising will apparently be kept to "palatable" levels, but will be prevalent, while content auctions, downloadable content sales, premium events and other initiatives are on the way.

"If you consider Home to be a simulacra of the real world then most goods and services found within the real world could theoretically be replicated within Home," the PDF notes.

Indeed, there are plenty of suggestive comments along those lines. "It will be possible to develop small demo-areas within Home that promote new titles, or to re-publish an old IP as mini-game within [a] Home Space," for example.

"We believe that there will be ample opportunities for businesses and individuals alike to generate significant revenues from the Home platform," the PDF later adds, with user-to-user auctions a likely inclusion. There will be restrictions on sharing, however, with media-sharing off-limits for obvious reasons
