Why does Sony need to attend "hundreds of events" if they can just host their own?

Sony said today, the corporation will attend “hundreds of events” throughout the year to talk about the next-gen PlayStation 5. (ItÂ’s safe to say it will also hold its own events.)

And its not like Sony's own last E3 2018 was its most successful even with its marquee titles like Last of Us Part 2 and Ghost of Tsushima being at the show.

Now, for the second year in a row, Microsoft’s live stream was the highest viewed stream on Twitch.

But Microsoft’s Xbox E3 Briefing wasn’t just the most watched live event of this year’s convention… it was also the highest concurrent viewer count of any stream ever on Twitch, pulling in an impressive 1.7 million viewers at its peak.

Pretty much. Both Sony and Nintendo are the top players in the console industry right now, and neither of them really need E3. Nintendo has its Nintendo Direct, and Sony has its equivalent State of Play. Sony will likely hold a Playstation Meeting to formally reveal the PS5 and its lineup of games.

Microsoft will likely cling to E3 for relevance for as long as the expo itself remains relevant lol.

Ironically, he calls this assessment idiotic, and then proceeds to use Twitch viewership to gauge consumer interest in platforms. I've got sales figures from both Playstation and Nintendo hardware and software that wipe the floor with anything Xbox. That is how you gauge consumer interest.

Both Sony and Nintendo are the power players of the game industry (excluding the non-AAA free 2 play market of course lol). The media will roll a red carpet for them wherever they decide to host their announcements. They are not bound to E3. Xbox, on the other hand, can't host an event anywhere besides North America, because there's little interest in the platform outside of the region. E3 is therefore important to them. They can't go to TGS, for example, but both Sony and Nintendo can.

Fun fact: Microsoft had no choice but to back out of doing press conferences at Gamescom because Sony had backed out a couple of years before. Why? Because the market leader runs the show. It's really as simple as that. But wait, Twitch views! :lol:

I don't agree with that, but like I've said twice already, MS will never be leaving E3 owing to the overlap between the Xbox management and ESA. That's a case of 'mandatory' attendance for MS even if they gain nothing from it. As your own numbers show, even in a show where MS was basically the biggest publisher and only console maker, they only managed to do .2 million more views than Sony's weird ass conference with the guitar solo and flute performances :laugh1:

I don't know why you're so concerned about the state of Sony :laugh1:. Journalists are saying it makes total sense why Sony isn't attending E3. "Hundreds" of other conventions include the twenty PAX's held each year where they have a single booth or so, the biggest Sony presences you'll see are at TGS and GamesCom where like I said before, more than 2, 3 times the people that attend E3 come.

You want them to either attend E3 or don't go to any conference a tall, weird.

You saw Sony's 2018 conference right ? The fact that they got 1.5 million views for a conference only focusing 4 games is a testament to how people will watch Sony events even with minimal content.

No wonder it's losing 50% of the attendee base year over year :laugh1: High prices, biggest publisher not there anymore, more publishers dropping out, the whole debacle with the journalists private information. MS is the only thing keeping E3 alive, let alone relevant, it seems like.

Anyway, just like with the PS4, Sony will obviously do their own event for the PS5 reveal in Feb. That much is a given.

Any multiplayer focused multiplat is miles better on consoles thanks to PC cheaters.

That said, the issue isn't big enough for me to get an Xbox console to play the occasional Halo and Gears multiplayer cheater-free. Would rather just play them on PC, since I already have one for non-gaming purposes.

Well, the biggest console multiplayer FPS i.e. Call of Duty, now has native mouse and keyboard support. So if that's your preference, it's available. The XIM4 device also let's you play shooters with the mouse + keyboard/controller. A lot of mutliplayer games these days let you drop controller deadzone and analog stick acceleration to zero, meaning that you can use the mouse just like you would with native support.

On the other hand, there is no way to get rid of cheaters in PC multiplayer games.
