As my title explains every thing i want i5 2nd gen processor but i am confused b/w models because there is not so much difference in performance and price of these processors. i5 2310 to i5 2500 there is very slight difference. So what will u say that for which processor i will go for and why??? My two friend who had already use i5 2500k told me that dont buy these processor because there is heating issue in these processor they are not so stable that u cant run them more then 5-6 hours??? and we cant find much difference in performance. The people who used these processors plzzz tell me that is there is any kind of issue in this gen. or not? i hope u will give me valuable suggestion... Thnx

I myself have an i5 2500k and i have been using it for more than a month now, it doesn't overheat.
May be your friends haven't seated the hsf properly on their processors that's why they are having this problem.
Many guys around here have 2500k and most of them are running it at higher clocks like 5GHz, 4.5Ghz etc and i never saw anyone complain about the temperatures

OMG @ the heating issue. I am going to build my rig and i was going for the 2500k or 2600 but now I am in doubt. Guys please Clear this.
About the performance, well 2500 is of course better than 2310. There is only 1700rs price difference between the price of two so I will say go for the 2500. Obviously it has higher clock speed per core so it will server good too.
+1 for 2500 if it don't have the heating issue your friends told you about.

IVY Bridge is going to be a significantly more investment than simple i5, Quad Channel Ram, expensive Mobos and CPUs. It will basically replace the current 9xx i7 Series. As far as 2500K and 2600K are considered its really hard to over heat them, secondly if you are thinking of OC'ing your processors on P67 chipsets cheap boards, that is not going to happen when buying board do check its ability to bypass the multiplier otherwise you can't properly OC your processor.

And if you go with a cheaper board, and aren't going to OC your i5 well won't really overheat, if you go with an expensive board and do OC your processor depends on the OC you want. If you want to take it up to 5GHz you can but I would suggest a third party cooler like from CM or Corsair HYDRO etc would be better.

OMG That is SO wrong!

I'm pretty sure they both didn't seat the HSF properly. I say this because I myself use a 2500.

Get the 2400/2500/2500k. Great value for money.

Grab a Hyper 212+ which is pretty cheap and does the job even better.

Mate that is SB-E. As of my knowledge Ivy Bridge processors and boards are both ways compatible (i.e Ivy boards + Sandy (non E) processors will work and vice versa). So in short, Ivy Bridge will not only run cooler due to the die shrink (32nm to 22nm), but also perform faster (up to 35% faster some reports suggest  CORRECTION : 20% Faster from the Current Sandy series. 37% faster from the Lynnfield series. Certains worth the wait). Any 1155 board will be compatible for usage with a mere BIOS update.

Yes, I would also suggest waiting for Ivy Bridge and getting it in current Sandy's price in a few months.

Yeah. Ivy Bridge processors will work with current 1155 boards with a BIOS upgrade :)

So yeap, worth waiting for if you've waited this long.

General differences b/w the Sandy Bridge processors and the Ivy Bridge processors:

- Die Shrink! (Less heat!) -- 32nm to 22nm
- Runs cooler than sandy due to the die shrink
- Performs 20% better according to Intel
- Reports suggest they cost the same as the current line of Sandy (and thus, sandy prices will fall)
- Reports also suggest it consumes lesser power in comparison.

Will ivy bridge pro, and mobo's are in a same price line as of sandy bridge? if yes then i will wait for it
If you're in pakistan, then it would take at least 6-months minimum for Ivy and its newer boards based on the Z77 chipset to arrive over here and of course at pretty high prices (Remember you're in Pakistan)..... They would decline in prices, but again that would take 3-4months more.

It'll only be worth it to go for an Ivy bridge system if your in the USA, because you can actually buy it on their released dates unlike in pakistan.

My Suggestion, Go for a Sandy Bridge system right now and use it as much as you want to with a good Z68 motherboard till Ivy get's released and only if that changes your mind, you would anyways then just have to sell off your 2500K and install an Ivy without doing anything else.

Its of no use to wait for Ivy-Bridge from right now only because by the time, these new processor's are gonna arrive in Pakistan...... then everyone would say "Don't get Ivy, wait for Haswell" because even that is gonna be expected in 2013. Hence, buy and live for what you can right now for the future is unwritten :)

That's where the fuggy part kicks in :)

Also, according to intel, Ivy Bridge can be used on existing 1155 boards with a BIOS upgrade.

Nahi yaar. It's expected Q1 2012. Batch production has started aswell.

Pakistan usually stocks within 1-2 months of international availability.

Fuggy is a pretty expensive importer but basically depending on the product and he takes a month minimum......that's why ghani boy over here got this extreme3 from a PG member HHumas in hardly a week.....

Yea Ivy bridge may work on the current 1155 boards with the Z68 and most probably P67 chipset but it would only be better if they were GEN3 board's to take the full advantage of the processor and the new architecture of upcoming GPU's relating to it.
