Had been in search for a great TV for the past month or so. Needed something larger than 50-inch. While there are plenty of cheap 55-65 inch TVs, their picture quality wasn't a whole lot better than my old Sony LED TV. The 8 series from Samsung is impossible to find, almost no one stocks them. It's either 7 series or 9 series. One for the budget customer, and the other to show off how sexy Samsung TVs are.

8 series is the perfect middle ground. It has all the greats of the 9 series, except a few bells and whistles. The one I got is the K8000, which means no curve, which I find pointless. The smart TV platform is excellent. Netflix works perfectly. I can even connect my Sony bluetooth headphones on it (you can't do that even on Sony's latest TVs). The TV is quite big so it's placed on a make-shift table for now. I've ordered a custom-made cabinet for the TV and AV receiver.

Overall I'm extremely satisfied. I've yet to try actual 4K content on it, but 1080p looks awesome. Will download some 4K stuff to check it out. What I'm waiting for are faster internet packages from Nayatel so I can upgrade my Netflix account to 4K HDR.

Other options I considered were
  • Sony 4K TVs. Sony's are insanely expensive. Their W930 55-inch series is more expensive than this 60-inch Samsung and the picture quality is inferior. It also runs an ancient version of Android TV. I prefer Sony TVs in general, but their 2016 lineup is mediocre.
  • LG OLED TVs. Someone recently unboxed it on PG. I love it. The Web OS platform is a delight. But OLED is very new and it has a lot of issues with input lag, image retention and eventual burn-in. It's also half as bright as the Samsung.
  • LG LED TVs. Cheap, but IPS panel means awful contrast ratios.
  • Samsung 7-series. Cheap, but far inferior image quality.

Super. How much did it cost? I bought 65" k7000 bnib for 188k. I see your magic remote has extra voice command button which mine is lacking even though the telly supports voice input.

Excellent purchase bro ... Samsung is best when it comes to TVs n LG is best when it comes to TVs OS but Samsung has improved alot n their UI looks simple and functional
I also love the docking unit with Samsung, keeps the table clean n excellent cable management options
Quantum dot tech has evolved even better and what we have seen in CES2017, new TVs will be even more exciting
Must share ur HDR experience
Congrats once again

And just to add i have deployed my own Plex server with 4K Blurays on it and man its way awesome than 1080p. The only thing that is bathering me are the side angles which make the whole charm gray

Viewing angles is a trade-off you make with a VA panel versus IPS. I installed Plex yesterday to stream files with my laptop but it's pretty fixed in the ways it works. You need to rename files to a specified format and place them in a specified folder structure otherwise the app will randomly show you all files without any sorting. I have tons of movies so if I do go full in with Plex, i'll have to rename everything.

Congratulations on the amazing purchase. Do you mind sharing the price Ammar? I was very interested in this tv but at that time almost nobody had this in stock, so went with a sony x800d from the sony centre. But now seeing your tv, makes me think I should replace my other tv as well. Lol

You need at least 30mbps internet for 4K Netflix streaming. Waiting for Nayatel to get off their asses and offer decent packages.

X800D is a good 100k cheaper than this TV. A Sony equivalent would be the X930D

Started Dead Island 2, and i find it pretty lame. The story is shit. The characters are either cringe or bland (all 6 of them), The gameplay isn't fun. Even the goddamn zombies don't behave like proper zombies. They're all fast & intelligent unlike how zombies are supposed to be like. Any fan of "zombie" genre cannot possibly like this shitfest of a game. Dying Light 2 was million times better than this shit.

tbh gaming industry as a whole is failing much like tech industry. They have buckled down too much to Corporate suites then relying on passionate and innovative people. A corporate only believes in financial growth and shareholders.
