Given that the dimension shifting portals/crystals are placed at fixed locations, Nixxes could simply alter the way streaming is handled and start loading in data in advance rather than doing it instantly, and Necrokiller would think it's DirectStorage that's doing the heavy lifting 🤷‍♂️:LOL:

The environment-altering portals are all scripted, so it's nothing that can't be loaded from a hard drive in advance with modified data management 🤷‍♂️:LOL:

Yeah, an early look is what it is. Had the player been able to create and transition through portals at any instance, then we'd actually be seeing those possibilities come to fruition 🤷‍♂️:LOL:

It's also important to realize that improving LOD management isn't the goal of fast I/O. It's to provide rapid access of decompressed data to the cpu/gpu 🤷‍♂️

Technically, it is impressive, since Insomniac is loading the entire level near instantaneously, but by design, the game doesn't require it. It could even be made to run on a PS4 🤷‍♂️ :LOL:

Spider-Man 2, on the other hand, would need to have its faster traversal speed nerfed in order to run on last-gen hardware, even with lower asset quality 🤷‍♂️

Sucks for that 12%, Nixxes will fix it tho.

But what about the 100% of PS5 users not getting RT Shadows and RT AO?

There are missing transparency effects present on PS5, but absent on the maxed PC experience
texture loading issues, where the PS5-grade asset simply never loaded on the PC game. There are ray tracing consistency problems where the maxed experience can have some areas that are of a lower quality than PS5
the portal transition process does indeed complete more quickly on PlayStation 5 than it does on the most high-end PC around.
All of these issues give the impression that - once again - a PC port has launched when it's not in a fully polished state.
