Ok before commenting this card is a generation older than 270x but why is it more expensive please read on.
AMD has soft launched a 7870 Limited Edition GPU that is based upon the Tahiti architecture. The GPU sports 1536 stream processors and a 256 bit memory bus, which places it midway between the 7870 and 7950 GPUs, which have 1280 and 1792 stream processors respectively. The 7870 LE is clocked at 925MHz and paired with DDR5 running at 1500MHz (effective 6.0GHz) and has implemented AMD’s Power Boost, giving it a boost clock of 975MHz.
The PowerColor HD 7870 MYST was able to achieve a core overclock of 1200MHz, a 225MHz increase beyond the stock boost speed of 975MHz. Memory was able to achieve a 400 MHz effective rate boost to 6.4 GHz. We were impressed with the overclock sans voltage increase. Being able to pull 1.2GHz out of the GPU significantly improved performance, and does put the performance of the video card over that of a Radeon HD 7950 with Boost at stock speeds. Therefore, a cheaper, and faster 7950 alternative can be reached, if overclocking. Given voltage overclocking, we might be able to get even higher, possibly to 1.3GHz. The only fear we have is that this particular cooler may not be up to the task of keeping the GPU cool enough given overclocked voltages and higher frequencies. As programs are released with support, it is something we will have to test in the future. As it stands, we are pleased with the overclocked achieved out of this video card. It resulted in real-world performance advantages leading to gameplay advantages.
