[h=1]Prometheus 2 is Officially Alien: Covenant; Gets Release Date & Synopsis[/h]

Director Ridley Scott surprised many recently when he referred to his next project – the sequel to his Alien quasi-prequel/spinoff, Prometheus – as being titled Alien: Covenant, after having referred to the film as Alien: Paradise Lost on multiple previous occasions. Fortunately, we need not speculate any further, as it’s now official: the next chapter in a planned Prometheus film trilogy shall indeed be called Alien: Covenant, with principal photography slated to get underway around the first quarter of 2016 for a 2017 release date.
So far, the only confirmed cast member for Alien: Covenant is Michael Fassbender, who will reprise as the android David – one of only two survivors from the original Prometheus expedition, along with the human scientist Elizabeth Shaw (Noomi Rapace). However, judging by the newly-released synopsis for the film, it would appear that Covenant doesn’t immediately pick back up with Shaw, at the beginning of its story.

Here is 20th Century Fox’s official synopsis for Alien: Covenant:
Ridley Scott returns to the universe he created in ALIEN with ALIEN: COVENANT, the second chapter in a prequel trilogy that began with PROMETHEUS — and connects directly to Scott’s 1979 seminal work of science fiction. Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world — whose sole inhabitant is the “synthetic” David (Michael Fassbender), survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.
Rapace had indicated in the past that she would return for the Prometheus sequel, but the project has evolved a fair amount over the course of the past year – having most recently undergone a rewrite by Oscar-nominee John Logan (Gladiator, Spectre) – and Shaw’s role has no doubt changed with it.
Nevertheless, Scott has recently indicated that Covenant will bring both David and Elizabeth back into the equation – but only after the movie’s initial act introduces the crew of the ship Covenant. This also explains recent reports that Covenant will also feature a new female lead (the ship’s captain, perhaps), with such rising stars as Rebecca Ferguson having been considered to play the role.
Official news on that front ought to be coming soon but in the meantime, you can check out the Alien: Covenant title treatment, below:

Scott has already confirmed that Alien: Covenant will both reveal the home-world of the Engineers – those mysterious extraterrestrials from Prometheus who helped to create humankind – and shed more light on, exactly, how the terrible Alien Xenomorph came to be. The film should also continue with the creator/creation thematic motif of Prometheus, while at the same time telling a sci-fi movie narrative featuring overt religious subtext and/or overtones (as subtitles like Paradise Lost and Covenant suggest it will), like its predecessor.
The confusing connections between Prometheus and Alien were among the former’s most controversial elements, though many were also critical of how Scott’s Alien prequel/spinoff relies on formulaic horror movie tropes and character types in order to explore its big ideas. However, now that Scott appears to have a firmer idea of where he’s going with the Prometheus trilogy and how it will link to Alien, perhaps Covenant will prove less divisive than its predecessor did.
As for Alien: Covenant‘s October 6th, 2017 release date: Scott and Fox struck gold (both critically and financially) with the space adventure The Martian in October of this year, so clearly the studio is hoping that lightning strikes twice with Covenant. Currently, the only other film scheduled to open in theaters that day is Andy Serkis’ live-action/CGI project, The Jungle Book: Origins.

[h=1]Alien: Covenant Has 2 Planned Sequels Set Before Original Alien[/h]

Things have been active in the Alien and Prometheus camp over the last few weeks. First, Neill Blomkamp still has tentative plans for an Alien sequel that features Hicks and an adult Newt. However, before then, Ridley Scott will release his Prometheus sequel, Alien: Covenant. The renowned director, in Australia to begin pre-production on the new film, has also announced that two additional sequels are in the works.
When pondering the origin of the titular monsters, Scott decided to string together not one but three prequel sequels, joking that his inspiration was the now expansive Star Wars franchise “juggernaut.” Prometheus apparently kicked off a long chain of events that will connect the esoteric prequel to original 1979 sci-fi chiller – a connection which Scott now clarifies.

Alien: Covenant will explore the origins of the xenomorphs, while also answering a few nagging questions, such as “why was this space jockey [on the uncharted planetoid] and why did he have an Alien inside him?” Talking with THR, Scott outlined the plan for a new movie trilogy to follow the events of Prometheus:
“So I’m now going to the next one, which is the next evolution directly connected with the first one, which was this Shaw, when he replaced Michael Fassbender in two pieces and we’ll kind of pick it up there and it will evolve. When that’s finished there’ll be another one and then another one which will gradually drive into the back entrance of the film in 1979.”
Before Covenant begins shooting around Australia – where the director wants to shoot all 3 sequels – Scott confirmedthat Noomi Rapace (Elizabeth Shaw) will only have a small role in the sequel. He also explored his modus operandi behind Prometheus in depth, explaining that his film was “borne out of my frustration that on Alien 1 in 1979… I was amazed that in the 3 that followed that no-one asked the question “why the Alien, who made it and why?” Scott also expanded upon his desire to helm the entire series, connecting the dots between series with his directorial vision.

It now appears the lynchpin of both the Prometheus and Alien franchises is the xenomorph origin story, one which may tie directly to the creation of the human life as well, via The Engineers. And with a evolving mechanoid as a foil, Scott’s prequel series is poised to break new ground on an old topic. By linking together both series, Scott may finally give hungry fans all the answers to those lingering questions about human life, the universe, and everything Alien.
Hopefully Scott won’t rely on somewhat watered down characters and vague plot points as a backdrop to philosophical exploration, as he did in the original Prometheus. There are millions of fans waiting for him to tie the series together in a satisfying and profound way – something we know he’s capable of.

[h=1]Alien: Covenant: Ridley Scott Reveals Story & Xenomorph Details[/h]

Despite the heavily divided reaction received by Prometheus back in 2012, anticipation still runs high for Ridley Scott’s next foray into the dark world of the Alien franchise. After all, it was Scott who brought us the original Alien film, a movie still viewed today as a top-class example of sci-fi/horror. So, whether one feels that Prometheus was a serious misstep for the director, or a fascinating exploration of the events leading to the creation of H.R. Giger’s terrifying Xenomorph, it’s hard to deny that Scott deserves another chance to make society’s collective nightmares come to life on film.
Up until recently, Scott had been slow to reveal just what exactly his next project in the series — the newly dubbed Alien: Covenant — would be about, outside of the fact that it would feature the return of Prometheus stars Noomi Rapace and Michael Fassbender, and that it would function as a sequel to Prometheus, but also work as another prequel to 1979’s Alien. Two sequels to Covenant are also planned to fully bridge the gap between the two timelines.

Thankfully, Scott saw fit to share a few more plot tidbits during a recent interview with The Wrap:
“They’re going to go to the planet where the engineers came from, and come across the evolving creature that they had made. Why did they make it? Why would they make such a terrifying beast? It felt bio-mechanoid, it felt like a weapon. And so the movie will explain that, and reintroduce the alien back into it.”
Fans will recall that Prometheus ended with both the birth of a proto-Xenomorph beastie from an Engineer host, and that Elizabeth Shaw (Rapace) and the disembodied head of android David (Fassbender) were on their way to the Engineer’s home planet. Previous interviews with Scott have indicated that the two characters would reach their destination, although Scott has also said that Rapace will play a much smaller role this time out.
A previously released plot synopsis indicated that the Covenant in the title refers to a ship bound for the Engineer homeworld whose crew arrives to find David as the only humanoid inhabitant. Based on both this old information and Scott’s new quote above, it would appear that the crew of the Covenant will encounter the next evolution of the Xenomorph creature found in the last film, and that Elizabeth Shaw is not long for this world if she’s presumably deceased (or at least missing) by the time the Covenant arrives on the planet to find David alone.

Also, for fans wondering just how long into the prequel series they’ll have to wait to see a full-on Xenomorph, Scott says that we’ll all get to feast our eyes on the real deal by the end of Alien: Covenant.
“We’ll have them all: egg, face-hugger, chest-burster, then the big boy.”
One crucial factor that the above details still don’t touch on, though, is what tone the movie will take. While this is clearly intended to be much more of a standard Alien film than was Prometheus, the latter movie carried with it a much more science fiction feel than did the prior Alien installments, with a lot more technical jargon being used and much more of a focus on scientific discovery than was present on the Nostromo or on LV-426. Although, to be fair to the towing crew in Alien and the space marines in Aliens, it’s hard to care about science when you’re constantly trying not to have your face eaten off by a rampaging monster.
Still, it’ll be a delicate balance for Scott if he hopes to try and successfully capture both vibes within the same film, lest fans of either Prometheus or Alien be disappointed when they sit down to experience Alien: Covenant.

[h=1]Alien: Covenant Adds Inherent Vice’s Katherine Waterston in Lead Role[/h]

Now that the movie formerly known as Prometheus 2 is officially part of the Alien franchise, under the title Alien: Covenant, it has a different set of expectations to live up to. While Prometheus was a prequel to the Alien series in a looser sense, Alien: Covenant will have to satisfy Alien fans in a way that Prometheus did not.
For one thing, it must have xenomorphs, and luckily that box has already been checked by director Ridley Scott, who assures fans the characters in the upcoming installment will “come across the evolving creature” made by the engineers. But there is also something else the Alien series is known for, and that is a strong female lead. Whereas before that role was filled by Sigourney Weaver — and even earned her an Academy Award nomination — this time around it will be up to someone else to fill her shoes (or power loader, as the case may be).

According to Deadline, the female lead in Alien: Covenant will be played by Inherent Vice‘s Katherine Waterston. Waterston also recently co-starred in Steve Jobs and is set to appear in the upcoming Harry Potter spin-off Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

While some fans and critics were not particularly enamored with Prometheus, Ridley Scott’s first return to the xenomorph-infested universe he helped create, much of that blame was placed on a weak script from Jon Spaihts and Lost and The Leftovers co-creator Damon Lindelof. For better or worse, neither Spaihts nor Lindelof are involved in the script for Alien: Covenant, as it has instead been handled by Michael Green, Jack Paglen, and perhaps most notably, Penny Dreadful creator and Skyfall co-writer, John Logan.
With Waterston’s previous roles having been a little more low-key (Steve Jobs was so sparsely attended that it was pulled from theaters), landing a lead role in Alien: Covenant should make her more of a household name to science fiction fans, especially coming off her role in Fantastic Beasts. Whether or not she lives up to the challenge will be a big factor in how successful Alien: Covenant ends up being. Weaver set the standard for no-nonsense, strong female leads in science fiction, and that’s a high standard to live up to.

[h=1]Alien: Covenant Takes Place 10 Years After Prometheus[/h]

Alien: Covenant will enter production in Australia in the first quarter of 2016, under the direction of Alien and Prometheus helmsman, Ridley Scott. The project has clearly evolved over the four and a half years since its predecessor Prometheus opened in theaters – having gone through multiple titles over that time (recall that it was called Alien: Paradise Lost not too long ago), in addition to having changed from a movie that was going to feature no Xenomorphs to becoming the potential beginning of a new film trilogy that examines the origins of the Xenomorph and leads into the Nostromo’s encounter with the creature in the original Alien.
Covenant, as based on a script most recently revised by John Logan (Gladiator, Spectre), follows the colony ship Covenant to what its crew believes is an extraterrestrial paradise – but which instead turns out to be the desolate and dangerous home world of the Engineers (the aliens who created humanity in Prometheus). There, the repaired android or “synthetic” David (played again by Michael Fassbender) is the “sole inhabitant” of the planet, according to the film’s official synopsis.
So how long has David been hanging around on the Engineers’ planet, then? Well, Oscar-winning costume designer Janty Yates – who’s been collaborating with Scott on his films for more than fifteen years now (having won her Academy Award for Gladiator) – revealed to Collider that Alien: Covenant picks up “10 years in the future beyond ‘Prometheus'” – and that this change in time will be reflected in the spacesuits worn by the Covenant’s crew versus that worn by David, respectively:
“[Alien: Covenant is] not so much of a spacesuit movie. There are two different spacesuits in it. We are only carrying on one look from ‘Prometheus’, which is with David.”
Michael Fassbender as David in Prometheus

Noomi Rapace is expected to reprise her Prometheus role as Elizabeth Shaw in Alien: Covenant, though her screen time should be limited. Most likely, Elizabeth will only appear via flashbacks and/or recorded footage from the past, given the implication that she is no longer alive when the spaceship Covenant arrives – either due to a lack of supplies that would have been necessary in order to keep her alive on the Engineers’ world for most than ten years, or possibly something more nefarious.
Meanwhile, David may be quite different by the time the Covenant’s crew meets him. One imagines he has developed a severe God Complex or warped priorities over the years, becoming a more dangerous A.I. being – perhaps one in the vein of Hal 9000, in some ways. That would certainly be in keeping with the 2001: A Space Odyssey influence on the previous Prometheus installment, while at the same time leaving room for Alien: Covenant to play up the mystery surrounding what David has been up to over the past decade since last we saw him. (Experimenting and creating new biological weapons, perhaps?)

A ten-year jump served the film Dawn of the Planet of the Apes quite well, allowing the movie to work as both a sequel to Rise of the Planet of the Apes (which, like Prometheus, is a prequel of sorts) and a solid self-contained narrative on its own. It stands to reason that Covenant can also benefit from the time skip – providing it with a partial fresh start to kickoff a three-part storyline, but at the same time carry over the strongest elements and ideas from Prometheus.
That Scott has momentum on his side, coming off a critical/commercial success in The Martian, should only further help this new proposed Alien trilogy to get off the ground properly. Prometheus remains one of the more polarizing mainstream sci-fi films that has been released in recent memory, so Alien: Covenant could use that assistance in convincing fans that this is a smart approach to continuing the larger Alien franchise hereon out.

[h=1]Alien: Covenant Will Have a ‘Pretty Hard’ R Rating According to Ridley Scott[/h]

Director Ridley Scott is experiencing a renaissance right now. While he didn’t get nominated for the Best Director Academy Award for The Martian this year, his latest science fiction film is one of the most successful movies of 2015 with seven nominations overall, including Best Picture, Best Actor for Matt Damon, and Best Adapted Screenplay for Drew Goddard. His next project will find Scott returning to the franchise that made him a big name in Hollywood.
After the release of Prometheus in 2012, fans have been waiting for a sequel film to find out how it will line up with the Alien film franchise. Scott surprised moviegoers with a new entry into the franchise instead of a straight Prometheus sequel — one that also meant Neil Blomkamp’s proposed Alien 5 film would be postponed indefinitely. And now, the director is giving out little hints as to what kind of film Alien: Covenant will be. Apparently, Scott wants to use the series’ blend of sci-fi and horror to be more extreme this time around, saying, “that’s why I’m doing it. I’m going to do pretty Hard R.”

After he won the Golden Globe for The Martian, Scott teased the upcoming project, which will start shooting in Australia soon. During the backstage interview, a reporter asked Scott about the horror aspects of Alien and whether Covenant would continue in the genre:
“I always remember walking down the edge in Saint Louis when we were previewing [Alien]. I couldn’t sit through the film one more time. I walked down the edge into the kitchen scene when John Hurt started to bring up his breakfast. That moment, I realized how pretty scary the film was… I felt a sense of responsibility that I had gone too far because it was extreme. I’m going to try and do that again this year, but much worse.”

If you don’t count the first Alien Vs. Predator movie, which was PG-13, every movie in the Alien franchise has been R-rated. It’s rare to see a successful franchise like Alien fully embrace the R rating, especially since modern blockbusters aim for a PG-13 rating to gain the biggest audience possible. This is clearly a win for fans, though, as a PG-13 rating would indicate many of the elements that are key to the series would be left on the cutting room floor (if they were filmed at all). In addition, it’s a welcoming sign to see a director like Scott eager to not only meet the expectations of the fans, but also to try and outdo himself from a previous entry in the franchise.
On that note, it’s hard to imagine anything being worse than a baby Xenomorph bursting out of John Hurt’s chest, but if anyone can do it, it would be Scott. He sort of paid homage that iconic scene in Prometheus with Noomi Rapace’s Elizabeth Shaw extracting an alien from her body with the help of a futuristic surgery machine. While there were parts of Prometheus that didn’t really work, that scene was one of the best in the science fiction prequel. Hopefully, Scott will rise to the occasion and outdo both scenes in Alien: Covenant.

Ridley Scott Says Alien: Covenant Will Go Ahead Without Noomi Rapace

The issue of when a director is past his/her prime has long existed, with strong opinions on either side of the question. However, over recent years, we’ve seen some legendary directors like Terrence Malick and Ridley Scott greatly increase their output with much success, strengthening the argument that age doesn’t necessarily play a detrimental role in a filmmaker’s ability.
In the particular case of Ridley Scott, much to the delight of fans everywhere, the 78-year-old director has accelerated work on following up some of his most iconic films like his Alien franchise, as well as the classic sci-fi blockbuster Blade Runner. In the process of refining these projects, Scott has continued to keep everyone guessing and ever eager to see what’s next.

Now that the public is aware of Scott’s intention to have another prequel to 1979’s Alien in theatres by 2017, there’s no shortage of questions and uncertainties – as was evidenced late last year with regards to the film’s title. With Alien: Covenant confirmed as Scott’s next contribution to the Alien franchise since 2012’s Prometheus, the latest questions now center around the surprise decision not to cast Prometheus star Noomi Rapace. While speaking with British tabloid The Daily Mail, Scott was asked as to whether or not Rapace would be reprising her role as Elizabeth Shaw in Alien: Covenant and responded “no,” adding that the production was still in the process of casting the roles. This comes as no small surprise given that up until recently, Scott had left the prospect of Rapace’s return somewhat wide open.

Elizabeth Shaw (Noomi Rapace) and David (Michael Fassbender)

Rapace and Michael Fassbender were the only two survivors of the crew from Prometheus, and Fassbender has since been confirmed as being on board for a return in Covenant, so the question of why Elizabeth Shaw won’t be returning is a curious one, to say the least. Rapace had always maintained that she was in favor of returning for another film, but the script’s recent rewrites likely have something to do with this no longer being a option.
Scott also confirmed that Alien: Covenant has been laid out on “very detailed storyboards,” though he did not further expound upon the film’s plot. His confidence over his ability to bring this next chapter of the Alien franchise to the big screen and its prospects for success remain firmly intact, as the director made clear during an earlier interview with The Guardian:
“You prove how reliable you are. Which I am, I always have been – it’s part of my thing … You want big films and stories to keep people going to the cinema. It’s up to us to keep the bar raised. That’s the trick. I’ve always done that. “
In other words, Ridley Scott has been a filmmaker for a very long time, with a considerably high rate of success. Fans of Noomi Rapace will undoubtedly be sorry to see her go from Alien: Covenant, but if Scott’s cinematic track record is anything to go by, potential audiences can rest assured that the right decisions are being made in the service of a legendary filmmaker’s vision.

[h=1]Alien: Covenant May Add Danny McBride To Its Cast[/h]

Fans of the long-running Alien series have a lot to look forward to in the coming years. Sir Ridley Scott will be present behind the camera for the Prometheus sequel, Alien: Covenant. He has also disclosed the exciting news that Covenant will actually be part of a trilogy which ties in directly the first Alien and explains the origins of the terrifying xenomorphs. Following his announcements, producers set a production start date for Alien: Covenant in April, with a Fall 2017 release date set.
With production about to ramp up, all the pieces of the Prometheus follow up are falling into place. Scott will direct a script doctored by John Logan (Spectre), and the current cast includes Michael Fassbinder, who played android David in the original and Katherine Waterston as the female lead — although unfortunately it looks like Naomi Rapace (Elizabeth Shaw) won’t be returning, at least in a significant capacity. We’ve now learned of a surprising potential addition to the cast: Danny McBride.

The Wrap reports that McBride is discussing a co-starring role in the upcoming Alien predecessor with 20th Century Fox. Best known for his starring role as Kenny Powers on HBO’s Eastbound & Down and raunchy comedies such as This is the End, the comedian/actor hasn’t taken on too many dramatic roles to date (exceptions like his turn in Jason Reitman’s Up in the Air aside). Signing on for Covenant is a move that could showcase his acting range, while also increasing his marketability. But McBride is also supposedly a major movie buff, who would likely relish an opportunity to work with renowned director Scott. Reportedly, the two even connected over their love of cinema upon recently meeting.

While McBride would likely portray a serious character in the film, it’s possible Scott may use him to add some levity to the production, although he’d have to tone down his usually ribald wit. But since McBride would likely be playing one of the colonists who discover David ten years after the events of Prometheus, there may be a few opportunities for McBride shuffle some low key space humor into the mix – probably as a way of diffusing the nightmare scenario unfolding for the crew of the Covenant.
Although Scott isn’t known for using heavy doses of comedy in his serious films, he clearly has a good sense of humor. He has directed a handful of comedies and also encouraged Matt Damon’s great dry moments which livened up The Martian. Scott is also an accomplished director and screenwriter as well, who had no problems coaxing a fantastic serious performance from Kristen Wiig in the red planet drama. And if McBride has half the chops for drama as he does for comedy, he should make a fine addition to Alien: Covenant.

Alien: Covenant has gone through some significant changes over the course of its development, the least of which being director Ridley Scott changing the title (from Alien: Paradise Lost to Covenant), and the more pressing matter being the ousting of future franchise successor Neill Blomkamp, whose own Alien 5 film project has been put on hold until further notice. Meanwhile, Scott now intends to produce two subsequent films following Covenant, all three of which will follow the events depicted in Scott’s Alien prequel/spinoff film, Prometheus.
Scott is currently scheduled to begin filming Covenant this April, with a cast that will include Prometheus‘ Michael Fassbender and several new additions to the Alien/Prometheus franchise. As for Fassbender’s Prometheus costar Noomi Rapace, her return for Covenant still remains (somewhat) up in the air.
According to Deadline, the Alien: Covenant cast now includes Jussie Smollett (Empire), Amy Seimetz (The Girlfriend Experience), Carmen Ejogo (Selma), and Callie Hernandez (Machete Kills). In addition the latest crop of star performers and Fassbender, the Covent cast also includes Steve Jobs‘ Katherine Waterston (who, like Ejogo, will appear in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them later in 2016), Demián Bichir (The Hateful Eight), and Danny McBride (Eastbound & Down).
As for Rapace: Scott previously indicated that she might not be returning for Covenant, but Deadline‘s report is more vague on that point – simply noting that “it remains unclear” whether Rapace will be back or not.
Noomi Rapace as Elizabeth Shaw from Alien: Covenant

Even if Fassbender winds up being the only returning Prometheus cast member to make an appearance in Alien: Covenant, such a stunning and comprehensive collection of lead performers should bode well for the production of Scott’s latest sci-fi/horror movie. That being said, it will be interesting to see whether or not Rapace will return in one form or another as human heroine Elizabeth Shaw – though for now Alien: Covenant, appears to be centrally concerned with the discovery of her co-survivor and synthetic antagonist David by a whole new crew of interstellar human explorers.
It also remains to be seen just how favorably Scott’s latest return to the Alien universe will shape up when it finally sees release in 2017, especially considering the slightly skewed, albeit overall positive, reception that Prometheus received from both critics and general audiences in 2012. With any luck, Scott will prove the naysayers wrong, and his follow-up to the latter mentioned motion picture will only build and expound upon some of the very same thematic territory that has always stood as the shining achievement and pride of the entire Alien franchise.
Alien: Covenant will open in U.S. theaters on October 7th, 2017.

[h=1]Alien: Covenant Official Image Reveals Weyland-Yutani Connection[/h]

Filming is currently getting underway in Australia on Alien: Covenant, director Ridley Scott’s sequel to his own Alien quasi-prequel Prometheus. Michael Fassbender will reprise his Prometheus role as the android David in the followup, though the movie’s central cast is otherwise composed of Alien franchise newcomers; including, Katherine Waterston (Steve Jobs), Demián Bichir (The Hateful Eight), Jussie Smollett (Empire), Danny McBride (This Is the End), Carmen Ejogo (Selma), Amy Seimetz (The Girlfriend Experience), and Callie Hernandez (From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series) as the members of the spaceship Covenant’s crew.
Covenant picks up about ten years after the events of Prometheus, as the eponymous ship makes its way to “a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy” (as the film’s official synopsis puts it), only to find a world that appears uninhabited – save, that is, for David. While the Weyland Corporation was the organization that backed the Prometheus vessel and crew’s expedition to the moon LV-223 in Scott’s previous film, the first image from Covenant confirms that the famous Weyland-Yutani corporation is the company that funds the Covenant’s mission.

The first Covenant image was released through 20th Century Fox’s official Alien Anthology Twitter account, in honor of “Alien Day” on April 26th. It shows one of the uniforms worn by the Covenant crew, decorated with the emblem for the Weyland-Yutani corporation and its motto, “Building Better Worlds.” Both Weyland Corporation CEO Peter Weyland (Guy Pearce) and his daughter “Meredith Vickers” (Charlize Theron) were killed during the Prometheus’ mission, so it stands to reason that their deaths helped lead to Weyland Corporation merging with Japanese company Yutani Corporation in the aftermath.
You can check out that Alien: Covenant image, below:
The mission begins. #AlienCovenant #AlienDay426 pic.twitter.com/qqGO9kkZlf
— Alien Anthology (@AlienAnthology) April 26, 2016
Weyland-Yutani was the organization that the crew of the Nostromo – including Ellen Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) – worked for in Scott’s original 1979 Alien film, which takes place in the year 2122. Seeing as the Prometheus crew arrived on LV-223 in the year 2093, that means that Alien: Covenant should take place around 2103 e.g. some 19-20 years before the events of Alien.
Ripley is only around 10-11 years old at the time of the events that will take place in Covenant, but Scott has revealed that this new film will have “connections” to Ripley’s backstory nonetheless. Perhaps one (or both) of Ripley’s parents works for Weyland-Yutani and/or will be mentioned during Scott’s Prometheus sequel? The downside of such a move would be that it places Covenant in danger of suffering from the common prequel ailment of tying its events too closely to those of the first installment in its respective franchise – something that could happen in this case if, for example, it turns out one or both of Ripley’s parents were a member of the Covenant’s crew. The Alien film universe doesn’t need to feel that “small”, after all.
Funnily enough, that would be the opposite of a problem that a number of hardcore Alien fans had with Prometheus; namely, that its connections to Scott’s 1979 Alien film were simply too tangential. Prometheus was a divisive movie for this reason (and more), which is why the news that Fox and Scott are now planning an entire Prometheus trilogy has been met with a mixed response from Alien fans. Depending on how Covenant is received when it arrives, that outlook could change – whether for the better or for the worse – but that is where the Alien franchise stands for the time being.

Director Ridley Scott’s 2012 film Prometheus remains a divisive entry among devoted Alien franchise fans. Even so, the quasi-prequel/spinoff to Scott’s 1979 sci-fi/horror classic Alien was successful enough to warrant a sequel, with plans for an eventual trilogy in motion now too. The followup, titled Alien: Covenant, takes place ten years after the events of Prometheus and revolves around the crew of the spaceship Covenant, as it finds its way to a world believed to have once been a paradise. However, that planet is now a desolate wasteland, whose sole inhabitant is the android or “synthetic” known as David (Michael Fassbender).
David, you might recall, has his head ripped off his body during Prometheus by one of the Engineers – the alien race responsible for creating humanity – and eventually wound up traveling with the sole human survivor of the Prometheus mission, Elizabeth Shaw (Noomi Rapace), into space in search of the Engineers’ home. A set photo has now been released, confirming that David’s head is back on his body in Alien: Covenant – but as there’s no mention of Elizabeth in the official Covenant synopsis, it’s been unclear whether she’s doing as well as David by the time the Covenant crew arrives on the Engineers’ planet… or if Rapace is in the movie at all.

Deadline reports that Rapace is in Australia – where Scott is currently in the midst of production on Covenant – and that she will be on the movie’s set for more than a single week; though, Deadline‘s article is otherwise vague about exactly how long Rapace will be on set, making it difficult to gauge just how significant her role here will be. Scott previously indicated that Rapace either wouldn’t be returning for Covenant or, rather, that she wouldn’t be serving as one of the film’s lead characters. The role of protagonist in Covenant appears to fall instead to Katherine Waterston (Steve Jobs, the upcoming Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them), who is playing the Covenant crew member known as “Daniels”.
Noomi Rapace as Elizabeth Shaw in Prometheus

One possibility is that Rapace as Shaw will appear primarily in the third act of Covenant (similar to Guy Pearce’s role in Prometheus), after being presumed dead when the Covenant spaceship crew first arrives in “Paradise” and finds David seemingly alone. Another possibility is that Shaw will show up in the Prometheus sequel through flashbacks or footage recorded from when David and she first arrived on the Engineers’ home planet, before she met her untimely demise for some as-yet unknown reason. Either way, the fact that Shaw is specifically not mentioned in 20th Century Fox’s official Alien: Covenant plot summary indicates that there’s some twist to her role that’s being held back for the actual movie – and that she hasn’t simply been hanging out in “Paradise” with David for the past ten years.
In addition to Waterston, Fassbender, and Rapace, the Alien: Covenant cast includes Carmen Ejogo (Selma), Danny McBride (This is the End), and Demián Bichir (The Hateful Eight), among others. As with any Alien installment, odds are that most of the human characters in Covenant will be dead by the end. Nevertheless, it remains to be seen just what role Elizabeth Shaw and the other humans in Covenant play in helping to pave the way for the original Alien – including, how word about their experiences in “Paradise” eventually gets back to their sponsors at the Weyland-Yutani Corporation (and inspire the company to send the USCSSNostromo on a mission that secretly involves recovering the Xenomorph that was – seemingly – created by the Engineers).

[h=1]Alien: Covenant Wraps Filming; Photo of Katherine Waterston Released[/h]

The upcoming sci-fi-horror film Alien: Covenant is arriving next year and new information continues to build anticipation. The Ridley Scott-directed film is both a sequel to 2012’s Prometheus and another prequel to the 1979 classic, Alien.
So far, bits of news have provided some vague knowledge of what the film is about, with casting news having done the most to shed some light on the film’s plot and its setting. The cast includes a returning Michael Fassbender and Noomi Rapace, as well as newcomers Amy Seimetz, Billy Crudup, Carmen Ejogo, Danny McBride, Demián Bichir, and Katherine Waterston.
Keeping Waterston in mind, a photo was posted on the official Twitter account for the Alien series, featuring the actress as well as Scott, with a message revealing news that filming on Alien: Covenant has officially wrapped. It should be noted that Waterston’s look in the photo has more than a little in common with Sigourney Weaver’s Ellen Ripley in Aliens.

With filming wrapped, this means production is now moving into the next phase, which was also stated in the tweet and should likely lead to speculation as to when a real first look, beyond some stills and behind-the-scenes photos, will be made for the public. With 20th Century Fox having already announced the lack of a major presence at this year’s Comic-Con International, it would seem as if fans will have to wait even longer than expected to get said glimpse.
Scott took some flack for Prometheus, but the series clearly still has a fan base looking forward to whatever he comes up with. Just coming off of the major success that was The Martian, it is great to see how the 78-year-old director has not decided to slow down at all. Regardless of film’s receptions, Scott has always been an efficient director, so hopefully the screenplay will be up to the task of delivering an Alien film more fans will be able to appreciate.
In the meantime, there is that group of fans excited for the continued talks of a fifth Alien film that would return Weaver to the franchise, as well as Michael Biehn’s Hicks and Carrie Henn’s Newt from Aliens. The progress on that film was delayed when Scott’s own Alien film was announced, but the reception of Prometheus has left some more curious about what happens next in this universe, rather than continuing to fill in gaps from the past. We’ll just have to wait until next year to see how things turn out.
Alien: Covenant opens in theaters on August 4, 2017.

[h=1]Alien: Covenant is ‘Much Scarier’ Than Prometheus[/h]

Leading up to the theatrical release of the hotly anticipated science-fiction franchise sequel Alien: Covenant from Oscar winning director Ridley Scott (The Martian), all eyes are pointed toward the production as it makes its way ever closer to theatrical distribution next year. With filming officially wrapped as of last week, and with a few of recurring characters from the highly controversial preceding film in the series that was and is Prometheus in tow, everything appears to be coming together in a big way behind the scenes.
Standing as the sixth proper entry in the long-running Alien feature franchise, Alien: Covenant is all set to deliver a much darker take that will be more in keeping with Scott’s original film of 1979. Even though some fans of the series found Prometheus lacking, it would appear as though returning cast member Michael Fassbender (X-Men: Apocalypse) believes the latest Scott production will serve to cater to the whims of those left wanting the last go around.
During a recent conversation with Collider, Fassbender touched in passing on his role in Alien: Covenant as the infamously nefarious AI named David of Prometheus fame, and why the new movie will see Scott returning to the more tonally fright-filled ambiance of the original 1979 motion picture. Speaking to the more unsettling content that viewers can expect from the new movie, Fassbender stated:
“This Alien is going to be…I’m very excited to see it and everybody in the film was saying this is a film that we all want to see. It’s much scarier than Prometheus but it’s got the same sort of scope of Prometheus. It’s kind of got more of the sort of thriller, imminent disaster feel that Alien had, so it’s kind of a beautiful meeting of both of those films. I’m really excited to see it, I think it’s gonna be super scary number one and then again with the massive scope of Prometheus…Once it starts and the ball starts rolling, it doesn’t let up. It’s really gonna bring chills to the cinema.”

Fans of the franchise should take some comfort in Fassbender’s enthusiasm for Alien: Covenant sight unseen, even as his statements appear a little unformed and of a postulating nature at this point in time. Scott still has some making up to do in the eyes of a few fans who were less than pleased with what Prometheus had to offer, but with any luck his new movie will prove to be as scary as Fassbender claims it already is.
Alien: Covenant is probably going to be among the most highly anticipated films of the summer season next year, and as such anticipation can be expected to continue rising as the wait before its theatrical release commences. Prometheus served to establish a new-entry point into the surrounding franchise, for better and for worse, and might yet result in another movie that will prove more in keeping with the thematic nature of the first film in the series.
Alien: Covenant will see theatrical release in the U.S. on August 4, 2017.

[h=1]Alien: Covenant Set Video Teases 1 Year to Release[/h]

Out of context set videos and images for upcoming films are a terrific little marketing tool that Ridley Scott’s Alien: Covenant has taken full advantage of since production began earlier this year. While avoiding spoilers at all costs, the film has released several photos teasing not only returning cast member Michael Fassbender as the advanced android David, but also newcomers Danny McBride and Katherine Waterston as Daniels, who bears a strong resemblance to Sigourney Weaver’s Ripley. Some of the images have prominently featured Scott, in case you were left wondering who the film was directed by, and although they didn’t reveal much in terms of what’s going on, or where the story would take place – aside from some vaguely futuristic and industrial-looking sets – they certainly did the job in terms of building a sense of intrigue.
It would seem that now the film shifting back to the set video phase of its pre-marketing marketing plan, offering those interested in seeing what happened after Prometheus a quick glimpse at the movie as it’s in progress, while also reassuring fans the film will eventually land in theaters. In fact, the new video not only offers a look at Waterston’s Daniels in what looks like a space gear (or at least the under layer of some space gear), but it also confirms that the film will be released 365 days from now.
While a year is a long time to wait, the tease certainly does a good job of building interest for the film without going to the hassle of creating an actual trailer – teaser or otherwise – and it also affords those curious about the next chapter in the Alien prequel saga an idea of what the film will look like. Of course, eight seconds isn’t much to go on in terms of actual content, so if you’re looking for details as to the film’s story or characters, you’re definitely out of luck.

Still, the image of Waterston’s character in some sort of chamber, surrounded by flashing lights still managed to evoke feelings of the first Alien Scott directed back in 1979. So far, this is in keeping with several of the other images that have been released from the set, as it appears there’s at least an aesthetic bridge being drawn between Covenant and the first Alien film, as well as a narrative one. Again, it’s not much to go on, but the device Daniels appears to be in (perhaps a hypersleep chamber?), as well as her attire, appears to have the same kind of sterile appearance as the med bay John Hurt’s Kane was taken by Dallas (Tom Skerritt) and Ash (Ian Holm) after he was attacked by a face hugger.
What those lights are doing or what Daniels’ clothing means is completely up in the air without context, but for anyone who is eager to learn more about Alien: Covenant this short little set video will likely be eight seconds worth investigating more than once.

That's still higher than it's total play length. A 5 hour campaign for a $50 game is downright scammy.

I have a PS5 but I am not satisfied with the experience. I am currently saving for a 4080 64 GB rig soon. Bit will wait for Pro if performance improves. This gen has been so bad I don't plan on buying consoles anymore for AAA gaming.

Both PS and Xbox have been a flop this gen as they can barely maintain 30 fps in a lot of AAA games th.

As per WCCF Tech review, Xbox Series X doesn't even maintain a consistent FPS and sometimes drops into the mid-20fps range. That's unacceptable, tbh.
