Predator Beast Inside. Desktop Killer.

AOA. I recently purchased Acer Predator 17 laptop from Dubai. This thing is a beauty to behold. I don't feel like I am worthy enough to use this beast. :laugh1::laugh1: I might end up selling it

Following are the specs. Sorry for the crappy images. Doesn't do justice to this laptop at all. Enjoy.

• Core i7 6700HQ Processor
• 32GB DDR4 Ram upgradable to 64GB
• 17.3" 4K IPS Panel with G-Sync
• GTX 1070 8GB DDR5 GPU
• 512GB M2 SSD. One M2 slot free
• 2 Terabyte 7200 RPM Hard disk
• RGB keyboard
• 8 Cell Battery
• Etc etc etc.....

So I finally managed to test the laptop. I would share my pros and cons along with gaming tests.

Pros:

• Really amazed with the performance of this laptop. Puts my Core i7 4770K and GTX 1060 setup to shame
• Being able to run games at 1440p and 4k maxed out is really a treat to witness
• The 4k Gync panel is a visual treat for the eyes. I tried Trolls animated movie 8GB HD RIP and my jaw dropped literally at several scenes in the movie.
• The speakers. Oh! from where should i start. The 4 speakers are the best speakers that i have ever tested on a laptop. The sound quality, surround sound and the amount of bass is really commendable for a laptop.
• I used it test a few games in an AC room. Never heard the fans spin at all. At first I thought there is something wrong with the fans but i realized they are spinning actually quite slow.

Cons:

Well honestly its not a con but i have to mention. The battery life is 3 hours or may be a little more under normal usage. I don't blame it because at such specs no one can expect a 5-6 hours battery life. Even lower spec laptops hardly manage 4 hours so i would say its good but not the best of them.

Some game tests

• DOOM 2016. Ultra setting FXAA 3840x2160 4K resolution Vulkan API. The average fps stayed mostly over 45FPS. The lowest was 36FPS.

• HITMAN 2016. Ultra settings 3840x2160 4K resolution No AA. Ran the benchmark. Average was 45.5FPS.

• Battlefield 1 3840x2160 4k Resolution maxed out ultra setting No AA. The average fps are around 45-60FPS. Under extreme scenarios the lowest i saw was 37FPS.

Dying Light 2016. Max setting 3840x2160 4K resolution . The average fps is 45-60FPS.

Mafia 3. 2560x1440p maxed out settings No AA. 40-50FPS. It is a poorly optimized game but the lowest fps i saw was 35FPS.

The 1080p model is a waste of money. GTX 1070 can easily do 1440p 60fps on majority of the games so not using the full potential of gtx 1070 is not worth it. I haven't tested the laptop thoroughly. Very busy right know. Will test it real soon.

Why would anyone buy a GTX 1080 with a 1080p screen. Its way too over powered for it. Gtx 1080 is capable of 4k gaming so why not utilize its power.

The only reason for me to go for that 4k Gsync panel was that GTX 1070 can easily do 1440p gaming and even 4k in not every demanding games.

It's the reason why some of the manufacturers give you choice to either get 4k screen (less life span in terms of running future titles at native resolution) or 1080p 120hz/60hz ips panel (longer life + sometimes high refresh rate for fps games).

I have mentioned it before unboxing it Ammar. I have a 9-5job. I can't take a gaming laptop with me to the office and play games over there. The only reason for me to buy this laptop was to actually check how gaming laptop actually performs since I never tested a high end laptop. Its not like I have to sell by all means.

I bought it since 3 weeks or so and hardly checked it for around 3-4 hours. Thats all the time I got to actually check it so now you know what i am talking about.

i was talking about native resolution, toning down the resolution to 1080p on 4k monitor will look horrendous, gaming on laptop that too on 4k as the screen size is pretty small i'd rather buy a 4k monitor/tv for movies and stuff which i can always hook up laptop too also people who are willing to play online FPS games or play them would rather prefer a 1080p panel with higher refresh rate + how the laptop is more future proof than the 4k one and not to mention the battery drain on 4k panel. Anyway i was just stating why gtx 1070/1080 is being put up with 1080p panel (mostly having higher refresh rate). But in the end it's consumer's choice whether he's okay with less battery time, lower refresh rate (subjective) and less longevity (in terms of gaming) when he chooses laptop with 4k panel.
