Hello, I am having a very worried problem. But before I mention it, I will list down my specs

Intel 5960x
Asus rampage v
32GB ram ( now 20gb after issue)
256gb sad
1tb HDD
Corsair h100 cooler
Geforce gtx 980ti reference
Corsair ax1200i pay
Corsair 570x casing

Ok so problem started in my pc after 4 days. And it started fine, but after 30 Minutes of usage. It turned off suddenly and then it would turn on and off again and again itself. I immediately turned off the PSU.

After that I turned back PSU switch to on. The motherboard light was on. But once I press the power button , the pc would turn on for .5 seconds and then immediately turn off. I tried many times but same results.

Then I checked the light on PSU. And it was RED. So I decided to remove everything and perform safe test.

Then I connected basic parts to PSU to check if its working. Here were the results

3 of my rams are not working anymore. I tried each ram only, and out of rams 8 are dead. So it booted with 5 rams. The GPU was not working in the first slot. But after some tried the GPU worked fine and I was taken to bios and then to window s. So I concluded that maybe ram was the issue.

I assemble everything back but unfortunately I was greeted with some error codes.and getting no display at all. The GPU was working and the fans were spinning as well.

I reseted the bios, removes the battery and pressed memory ok button. It then booted with display . I also able to reach windows. But after 15 minutes, the pc shut down and acted exactly as before. It started to turn on and off. And then would turn on for slight second and then turn off completely.

This time with parts already in the casing, I removed everything from PSU and performed safe test. After that I connected only motherboard and SSD but not GPU. It would power on fine.

But whenever I connect GPU , I it will cause issue. It would give me 79 error. And vga_led would light up. There would be no display.

I changed new GPU power cable and also changed slot. But same problem.

Is my GPU dead ? Or the PSU is causing issue. Please help.

Probably the motherboard issue. Plz, check the card on anyother PC to see if it is working or not. Did you try switching to secondary bios and test with it? I hope you would have updated only one bios.

I'll try switching to secondary bios. It can be switched with the press of the button on motherboard right ?

I'll check GPU and rams on my friends pc and update you here.

Yes, there is button at the bottom to switch the BIOS. Corresponding LED will light up to show the second bios in action. R5E is known for such random hiccups. Reason why I call hiccups is that it did the same to me. After troubleshooting it occurred tbat RAM were problematic but to my surprise same RAM worked just fine on other OC. Lol.

Indeed it has caused me lot of problems. Thinking of switching to edition 10.

Lot of people on internet with similar problem said that GPU is defective. I hope not. Not at the time when gpu prices have sky rocketed.

Well, this is subjective. Anything can happen even to a premium quality top offer from any brand. Some would say MSI Godlike, others would say Gigabyte Ultra etc etc but it is all random. I am very happy with R5E10 and remember it is on my test bench hence going under more stress and frequent changes and still going strong. That was a one time hiccup only.

You just stated the words that were in my mind.As they say, "best laid plans come apart at the seams".Happens all the time. You do your research for months and then buy your dream product but then you find out theres some kink in it.At the end of the day it's down to your luck.

Maybe check the power / Reset buttons of the case. I also had similar issue with my pc it would randomly turn on or shutdown by itself . I traced the problem to power / reset button of the case. As they get old / become faulty they make contact on their own so causes the pc to turn on/off randomly.I then connected 2 long jumper wires to the motherboard on/off header and short the wires whenever I want to turn on the pc.My issue was solved like that.

Red PSU LED mostly means psu short circuit. Id suggest not to try anything on this psu and replace it if possible. I had this issue but i kept peristing tries and my pc later fried. Board n cpu

I wonder which variant of AX1200i does he has. As on the versions before Aug or some month in 2014 the default OCP settings were not what they should have been and Corsair silently addressed the issue in the later release. I missed the red led part and he should definitely look into PSU immediately.

I think the PSU does not give enough power to GPU. Because without gpu it runs fine. But after connecting GPU. It shuts down. Showing red light

Checked my system with friends PSU. And the whole system is running fine. Even played Witcher 3 for 30 Min. However 3 rams are dead.

Now I'm assuming PSU is faulty. But I'm also thinking maybe there is problem with power socket of the room.
