Gentlemen,

I am currently in Chapter 2 and plan to spend the next winter with this game. I have read a couple of "Things to do First" in this article:

Red Dead Redemption 2: 10 Things You Must Do First

1. Turn Up Controller Acceleration, Turn Down Dead Zone
2. Turn Off HDR, Because It's Terrible

Do you have any suggestions and comments regarding the above two?

Thanks.
Make a manual Save and use it often. This point is super important, and you'll find yourself using manual saves more often than you think.
I would advise against Fast Travel. The most important tip I can give is to play the game slow, and you'll have a great time. If you play it in a hurry and expect Arthur to respond and move like friction-free CoD characters, you'll get frustrated quickly.
Avoid roads, and try to move to destinations in straight lines so you can have many chance encounters, grab collectibles and discover some great locations.

Both of those are valid points, do them.

Also, change the third person control scheme to First person too, that way you have sprint at the tap of R3 like FPS games. This step might be subjective so you may wanna play around with it.

Tried a bit of RDR online. It seems to offer a surprisingly decent coop experience with actual story-like missions.

On the competitive side of things, I wanted to try the 'Make it Count' bow and arrow battle royale mode, but unfortunately you can't opt to play it directly like the horse races and have to sit through the match playlist. The other modes are the usual team deathmatch and capture and hold match types, which just aren't fun due to the sluggish nature of the game's mechanics.

[h=1]Red Dead Redemption 2 Update 1.01 Patch Notes: Molly Returns to Camp[/h]
Rockstar has officially released update 1.01 for its highly popular Red Dead Redemption 2 game, which includes a patch for side character Molly disappearing from camp after a certain story mission. The update comes shortly after the beta release of the game's online-only mode, titled Red Dead Online, and aims to fix a lot of the game's small and big glitches alike.
Red Dead Redemption 2 released in October and has proven to be an extremely popular game for Rockstar and parent company Take-Two Interactive, shipping over 17 million copies since its release in October. Still, like any big gaming title today, Red Dead Redemption 2 was not without its technical problems and glitches in need of patching. Now, with Red Dead Online available for everyone who owns the game, Rockstar has finally released a new patch that addresses a lot of the game's biggest issues.

Released on November 29 and announced by
Rockstar, Red Dead Redemption 2received update 1.01. The biggest fixes from this update include a bug that would see companion Molly disappear from the camp after the mission "American Distillation," as well as a bug where multiple companions would disappear after players utilized the retry from checkpoint option during the "Polite Society, Valentine Style" mission. Alongside companion patches include bug fixes for various items, environment and story missions. Overall, there are dozens of various small and large bug fixes for the Rockstar title.

While some fans may have been concerned with the progress of updates for Red Dead Redemption 2 after there was no quick fix to a lot of the aforementioned companion glitches, it's clear that Rockstar was taking their time and fixing every little bug and glitch they could. Previous updates were much smaller in size and scope, making 1.01 the biggest for Red Dead Redemption 2 thus far. It should make things much easier for players who are still in the midst of the vast 60-hour single player campaign.
Regardless, it's definitely not going to be the last big update for the game, as Rockstar's Red Dead Online is still in its beta phase, and the company will more than likely look to address the problems and glitches with that mode before it goes into full release. This will more than likely include certain glitches that make earning money a little too easy, although Rockstar may want to offset this with a better in-game economy, which is arguably one of players' biggest complaints about Red Dead Online. Either way, with update 1.01, the single player portion of Red Dead Redemption 2 is now at its most complete and bug-free to date.

[h=1]Rockstar updates Red Dead Online’s economy, gives beta players free gold[/h]

[h=2]If you already spent in-game money, you might get a refund[/h]

Rockstar Games is making changes to Red Dead Online’s contentious economy starting Thursday, adjusting prices of in-game items and increasing payouts of cash and gold. The better news for players who have tried out Red Dead Redemption 2’s online beta is that Rockstar is giving them a nice little infusion of cash for free.
The best news is that if you bought something in Red Dead Online already, and Rockstar has dropped the price of that item, you’ll get some in-game currency refunded to you.
Here are the major changes coming to Red Dead Online, including adjustments to rewards, pricing on catalogue items and rebalanced values of pelts and other items:
Increasing the cash and gold payments across a number of different activities including Free Roam Missions, Free Roam Events, replays of A Land of Opportunities Missions, Showdown Series modes and more.
Reducing the prices of most weapons in the Wheeler, Rawson & Co Catalogue and Gunsmiths. For players that have already purchased weapons at the previous prices, we will automatically deposit the difference to player balances starting today - please look for an alert message the next time you log in to the Red Dead Online Beta to notify you of this change, refunds may take up until Monday, December 10th to reach all eligible players.
Balancing the values of select pelts, skins and fish as well as horse reviver and pamphlets.
Rockstar says it’s not done tweaking Red Dead Online’s in-game economy. “Of course our efforts to improve and balance the Red Dead Online Beta will continue,” the studio said. “We are conscious of and still evaluating an assortment of further adjustments based on feedback from the community.”
Players who have taken part in the Red Dead Online beta (from Nov. 27 through midnight PST Dec. 6) will receive $250 of in-game cash and 15 gold bars. Rockstar says those freebies will start hitting today.
As previously announced, Rockstar plans to roll out another update soon to address bugs that have been kicking players from gameplay sessions.

[h=1]Red Dead Online is imperfect, messy and strangely captivating[/h]

[h=2]There’s promise to be found in cowboy co-op[/h]

Red Dead Online, the multiplayer mode for Red Dead Redemption 2, allows you to make your own story with your own character. I’ve barely scratched the surface of Arthur Morgan and his gang’s tale, but I played Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto Online from launch to the recent heist update. I was surprised by what I found in the ongoing beta of Red Dead Online: a mode that obviously lacks the depth, sophistication and polish of its single-player campaign.
There’s a lot to turn players away from its opening moments, especially if they compare it to the cinematic opening of Arthur Morgan and his gang making their way through the snow. It’s only after digging — with a friend or two, if you can wrangle them — that the promise of Red Dead Online becomes clear.
As soon as you launch into Red Dead Online, you’ll be asked to create your character. While there’s lot of jokes floating around online about how much time someone can sink into a character creator as they sort through dozens of options and dream about who their avatar could be, Red Dead Online’s character creator is more like desperately trying to wrestle a whole ham through a sieve. You’re presented with a series of presets, with certain options like skin tones, mouth width, and brow height locked to them. Once you choose one that best suits your vision, you’ll be asked to hammer it into shape. For me, this meant I spent a lot of time squinting as I pushed meters from one side to another, trying to find some kind of visual difference as I forced features like cheek depth and blush density to their extreme.
There was, of course, a difference between all of these choices — they just only became apparent once I loaded into the game itself. My first cowboy was a mawkish, dead-eyed slab of a woman. When she stepped up next to Jessica LeClerk, I despaired. It’s not like I want to play as a supermodel; I’m fine with playing a character who actually has visual character. The problem is that my avatar often ended up looking like a knockoff dollar-store version of the characters that fill the world of Red Dead Redemption 2. After sinking more than an hour into character creation — an experience that felt like crafting a sculpture with salad tongs — I managed to make a lady I liked. Her face is sunken at weird angles, but it only shows up during certain cutscenes. You know what? It’s fine. It’s fine.

My bounty hunter is willing to take any job. Rockstar GamesIt’s that level of imperfection, and compromise on the player’s part to accept it, that defines much of the time you’ll spend in the early stages of Red Dead Online. Characters and clothing aggressively clip. When an NPC handed me a glass of wine, my character accepted it by putting her arm through her own torso. A handsome neckerchief looked great in the wardrobe, but immediately thrust a black plank of cloth up into my avatar’s skull and through the back of her hat.
The trade-off for these unfortunate scenarios is meant to be the joy of playing with other people, but that doesn’t quite pay off. At one point, while trying to ride through Tumbleweed, a significantly higher-ranked, more-skilled player stood by the side of the road and sniped me with a bow. As soon as I re spawned and got my bearings, he was there again. There are anti-griefing protections, like horse insurance, and I don’t begrudge a good bout of PvP, but it’s not exactly immersive to spend a good 15 minutes just bleeding out, getting up and repeating the process. I’ve also turned off all non-friends voice chat after hearing an argument between two other players in Saint Denis that was liberally peppered with the n-word.
So, what’s the point of Red Dead Online? Once I set up a posse with my good friend and we ran through the first few missions, I fell in love. At one point, my bulky character hoisted a con man over her shoulder, and I pulled him up the sheer path winding through a canyon. My friend, a lean sniper, covered me from the gang members trying to avenge their fallen ally. It was slow and arduous, and every shot had a chance to be lethal. It was a fantastic, desperate co-op experience that hit the right mix of straightforward but challenging.

Moral choices change your missions in Red Dead Online. Rockstar Games via PolygonRed Dead Online offers far more cinematic moments and missions than GTA Online. You still have a silent protagonist, but there’s less of the wild mania that defines the GTA setting. If I were to load into my GTA Online game today, I could get into my neon-colored flying car, pick up a mission, do barrel rolls while shooting missiles, and then head to my underground bunker to call in orbital strikes.
Due to the time frame and the setting, Red Dead simply can’t get that absurd, and so it has to try to paint with finer strokes and have actual characters. It’s hard to imagine a scene as intimate and heart-wrenching as approaching the lost wife and hearing her plea, and potentially gunning down her new lover to bring the wife back to an abusive husband, in GTA Online. Instead, the husband would probably be a cryptocurrency billionaire, and we would have had to chase down his yacht with helicopters as a helpful NPC made jokes about the blockchain.
Playing with friends also allows for a limited bit of role-playing in that you can make choices and the party gets to vote, similar to the system in Star Wars: The Old Republic. Hoodlums and white hats will have their choices placed head to head, and it’s interesting to see that system in action.
It’s hard to recommend Red Dead Online right now, especially since a far superior version of the game is available in the story mode. That being said, I don’t regret my choice to ignoreRed Dead Redemption 2’s campaign initially to dive into the online mode. There’s a solid foundation for this live service that trumps the initial version of GTA Online, and the good times gripped me. Hopefully, as development continues, the bad times become less common, and the strengths have more space to shine.

[h=1]Rockstar giving Red Dead Online players more free cash, gold bars[/h]

[h=2]Update 1.05 includes a cash ‘thank you’ for those who pre-ordered or purchased Special or Ultimate Editions[/h]

Rockstar Games is once again handing out free money to players who have tested out Red Dead Online’s beta. That includes free gold bars, that game’s premium currency, as well as an infusion of cash for certain players. The announcement was included today in a news releasedetailing the game’s latest patch.
Players who have already participated in the beta, or who do so through Dec. 20, will receive an additional 15 gold bars by Dec. 24. This is in addition to the gold bars already handed out earlier this month.
In addition, players who pre-ordered Red Dead Redemption 2, or purchased the Special Edition, will receive an additional $100 of in-game cash. Those who purchased the Ultimate Edition will receive $1,000.
“We’d once again like to acknowledge our incredible Red Dead Online community for their continued support, patience and detailed feedback during this beta period,” Rockstar said on its official website.
Shortly after the beta launched, players made their displeasure with Red Dead Online’s economy known. Rockstar has since vowed to adjust those issues. Today’s patch was decently sized, coming in at approximately 1.4 GB on PlayStation 4. The notes that accompanied it are brief, comprised of only a single line: “General improvements to fix game stability, save data and to address exploits.”

Finally finished it last night after spending close to a 100 hours on the game !!! This year was really a treat. Both GOW and RDR 2 are games that are definitely going in the all times great list.

R* has upped the ante for Open World games to a new high. Arthur Morgan, Dutch, Micah, Lenny, Hosea, Trelawny, Abigail, Charles, Uncle, Jack, our very own JM and of course the vicious Sadie - all of the main and supporting cast is so fleshed out that you care for each and every one of them and the stories they have to tell. It is rare to remember so many supporting cast in a game and yet i feel i know almost every character in the game and their back story. The game not only tells the story of Arthur Morgan alone, it tells that of the whole Van Der Linde gang. I feel sad now that I have finished this game. Although there are loads of games sulking in my back log for the last 3 months i feel I may never forget THIS experience.

The only negative (sorta) in the whole game is the lengthy epilogue. Who in their right mind would make an 8-10 hour long epilogue. That was the only point in the game i just rushed through just because i wanted to know how the game ends.

That moment when you realize the epilogue is lengthier than the whole of The Order 1886...easily the worst section of the game.

Also,...

Spoiler: show
...playing as John Marston after Arthur Morgan, a far far better character,...

just did not feel right.

Completely agree to that. I first thought that the missions were a chorefest but I later realized the bigger problem was the character playing them.
