Mohsin Hamid's all books are a pretty incisive look at religion, politics, morality and our social mores.

Do read "The Crossed Swords" by Shuja Nawaz and Tinderbox by MJ Akbar, regarding Pakistan Politics, post independence.

Ayesha Jalal is a big name in this respect, but I haven't read her books. I plan to, someday.

P.S. Is there a PG presence on Goodreads?????

If not, there should be....what say you? My goodreads account is basically just a diary of books because none of my close friends are big readers or even those who are, they don't use goodreads.
Goodreads is full of snobs and elitists. Way too many self-centered opinions there.

As sad as it may be, I prefer to get my book reviews from Amazon. People are honest about the book and often times the reviews are simple and clear.

True that. Goodreads has everyone trying too hard to be an expert critic. Amazon says more with less.

Read the God of small things last week . Amazing book by Arundhati Roy and somebody told me that it's her only book as well ? not sure about that . Anyways . Book reflects a story of an indian family and the caste system in Aymanam .The book is very fun to read because it doesn't follow a timeline . The story jumps from here and there and it's just extremely fun at the end when Roy writes about the incident at the end of the book (which led to the climax so the climax was actually way before the ending of the book) .I am trying not to spoil it for anyone but it takes a sharp mind to keep track of the story . If you're able to then trust me it's extremely nice to read !

Haha. Fair enough, man.
Example :p

Book: The Fault in our stars.

GOOD READS REVIEW: Fault in our stars is a contemporary youth literature pretentiously masquerading a fatal illness for all the miniscule insecurities that plague the very civilization we endure but subsequently fails to posthumously equate the passing of protagonist's overly attached affair with self-actualization and eventually her own shortcomings in coping with the Stockholm syndrome level attachment portrayed with her own illness.

AMAZON REVIEW: I think it is very well written. It covers a topic that is difficult to talk about and is often avoided. Hazel and Augustus are two of the most well-written characters that I have ever read. Their story is a joy and a privilege to read. Furthermore, their love is more real than anything else you will ever find on the Young Adult shelves.

Hmm. I do see your point. I rarely read reviews on Goodreads. Like I said, for me, it was just a diary. Now that I think of it, I rarely read reviews (Amazon or Goodreads or otherwise) when it comes to buying a book. I think I should change that.

Wow Chhowni
I only read reviews after I'm done with a book. Reviews written in simple English are usually the most accurate. Doesn't matter if they're on Amazon or Goodreads. It's a good rule of thumb.

Wow. This is what happens when a book is complete bonkers and just plain fun. This is without a doubt one of the funniest books I have read and it probably is the only book I have bought solely due to the amazing title.

It is about exactly what it says on the front. Mixing rock n roll with some weird ass sex scenes (seriously, I am using the word weird but that doesn't begin to cover it), some real wit and a totally crazy plot and you have this book. A thoroughly entertaining and light read.

Who says reading isn't fun?

The Martian

Duct tape is indeed magic. Quite an enjoyable read and smartly put together in essence of the dangers of surviving alone on Mars. All the science bits were the outstanding parts for me. I know there's a lot of accuracy in there but the real genius was how well absorbing it was. The humour too was a nice touch to keep Mark's character in focus from the beginning to the end. However the secondary characters in comparison lacked depth but I guess the real pacing was well attached to the grounded sci-fi survival theme. In short, it was a worthwhile trip.

Went to liberty to check out stuff and picked this up.

This was a fantastic read.

Much needed space-related fiction novel read I never knew I wanted.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Author put in a lot of effort to make this book simple yet captivating for just about anyone.

You don't need understanding of physics, chemistry, botany, space, interplanetary travel or any science to thoroughly enjoy this wonderful novel.

Read The Circle by Dave Eggers. It was brilliant. The haunting prescience of the book, the all too close to present future and the eerie similarities with our world today made this a fascinating read for me. It was fast paced, filled with interesting ideas and though it may be like most other famous science fiction books about totalitarian regimes, this one has a spin to it. Well worth a read.

The book was originally done in a series of notes on the author's website and then it was self-published as an ebook. Few years later it got published worldwide. Pretty amazing how word of mouth spread it so far.

Looking forward to the film adaptation now.

Jeff Daniels as Teddy Sanders BRILLIANT CASTING
Naomi Scott as Ryoko WHO THE F IS THAT?
Donald Glover as Rich Purnell POOR CASTING
Kate Mara as Beth Johanssen HORRIBLE CASTING
Sean Bean as Mitch Henderson EXCELLENT CASTING
Chiwetel Ejiofor as Venkat Kapoor THEY COULDN'T GET AN INDIAN? Irfan Khan would have been perfect.
