Read The SilkWorm

Bloodier, gorier and more gruesome than The Cuckoo's Calling and most importantly Cormoran and Robin's
working relationship went to the next level in this book.I really don’t see why she doesn’t just drop the
whole Galbraith thing.....
I have read around 150 pages so far. It is going good but I wouldn't say that Rowling is breaking any new ground in this well worn out genre. The characters are good, but the mystery is not exceptional, atleast so far as I have read.

Recently finished Stoner by John Edward Williams and started Zen & The Art of Motorcycle Maintenance. Stoner was exceptionally well written and moving; also quite depressing at certain points. Would recommend.

I have been looking for Karachi: Ordered Disorder but no one seems to have it in stock. Has anyone here read it? Thoughts?

Read What we talk about when we talk about love by Raymond Carver, one of the most famous short story writers in American literature and this is one of his most famous works. While some of the stories were definitely good, overall it left me underwhelmed. The lack of resolution, no proper setup or downright uninteresting bits made me like this collection less. Carver is intent upon showing us the ennui of daily life, the facade beyond the calm, but I have to say that it does not make for compelling reading.

Stoner - John Williams

Initially I held my judgement for the book. But after going through the first chapter, I could not deny the brilliance in the writing. It is so impeccable and carried in such beautiful tones that I was just left moved. Even more surprising was how simple the story was, humble but captivating at the same time. Stoner surely deserves its praise. An unforgettable read in the truest of senses and one I will hold as a priceless experience. Classically recommended.

Day by Day Armageddon: Origin to Exile by J.L. Bourne.

It is a combination of two of Bourne's zombie novels along with a bonus short story. A great read for zombie and survival fans. The story is told, as suggested by the name, day by day through the journal of the protagonist. And it really feels gripping and personal as you read how he deals with the zombie apocalypse. It did however bogged down at some areas because of the journal narrative and I often felt like a normal narrative could have been better in those areas.

The detail to the survival stuff is pretty good.

Yeah, I had read this conversation before, but of course now I can put meat on the bones...
I have read about 40%...the characters are definitely pretty good, or at least they are written strongly. I can not say that I am a very religious person, or that I have very strong faith. Hence, several aspects are far-fetched for me, stretching the boundaries of my intellect, but that does not necessarily mean that the novel is flawed. Khair, I would reserve final judgement till I read it completely.

Wow Chhowni

Just finished Robert Galbraith's "The Cuckoo's Calling" and I liked it very much. It was engaging and had a host of interesting characters. Cormoran Strike is one of the better detectives to have come out in recent years. He's not an all-out genius in the mould of Holmes or Poirot but fairly steady and methodical in manner instead.

Detective novels tend to get pretty dry somewhere in the middle but kudos to the author for keeping things interesting. There was no edge of the seat stuff though. The plot was great but the ending was a bit abrupt I think.

The style of writing made it obvious JK Rowling was the author. I'm amazed people didn't reach this conclusion earlier, unless Galbraith wasn't advertised as a pseudonym.

I only read the book after it became known that Rowling was the actual author, though I doubt I would have picked up on this tidbit. The similarities were there, no doubt, the same style, the same box of words, so to speak...but to jump to the conclusion that it was a pseudonym..i don't think I would have done that...damn my limited imagination

peer-e-kamil is ok, but it lacks the coherence of a novel.
considering how it was written as an episodic series for khawateen digest, that makes perfect sense.

no comments on the content. let's just say i'm not a fan. (edit: not because of any religious commentary but because it's just not that interesting of a story. i guess that's a comment now.)
