Hyper Transport 3.0 is coming

Or it will be very soon. The term "very" can be discussed a lot since the latest Nvidia core logic is still months away from its final form. However judging by the multitude of information that comes from various "unofficial" sources, it seems that Nvidia might be closer to PCI-E 2.0 than we think. Because if their roadmap turns to be true after all, this fall will bring us a plethora of brand new Nvidia chipsets. The new MCP72 core-logic series will fully support AMD's latest CPU family (Phenom) based on AMD’s new K10 "Stars" family. All versions of the MCP72 will come with full support for HyperTransport 3.0 processor bus but they will also integrate PCI Express 2.0 slots with improved electrical wiring in order to sustain a power index of 150W per slot.

Nvidia stated that they will only offer 3 flavors of the chipset at first: MCP72XE, MCP72P, MCP72 Ultra and MCP72V. Only the first two will be integrated into fully functional products until the end of this year and, according to Nvidia, they will probably come out in October.

Unfortunately no one knows for sure when the Ultra and the XE series will come out but it seems that it won't happen until the first months of 2008. And that's a pity since as always, we'll all be expecting Nvidia's flagship, the MCP72XE to come out.
MCP72XE will revert to a two chip-design in order to support two PCI Express 2.0 x16 lanes (and two PCI-E 2.0 graphics cards). Aside from that and the HT 3.0, the set of peripherals (starting with the SATA II/PATA and USB controller and ending with the PCI-E x1 support) will be comparable to that of the current Nforce 6xx series.

The mainstream MCP72P PCI Express will only be built using one chip core-logic so PCI-E 2.0 support will be limited to 2 x8 lanes (in 2.0 mode) for multi-GPU capability. The chipset will also maintain support for two PCI Express 2.0 x1 lanes but will do away with EPP memory support. MCP72 Ultra won't even integrate multi-GPU support and will support only PCI-E 1.x connectors while the value/ low end MCP72V will come with an even poorer set of standard capabilities. Sounds just like Nvidia now, doesn't it? The right Mobo for the right job.

Consoles were my main platform ever since Atari 2500. But now I think it's not worth it as PC especially with DLSS deliver far smoother performance. AW2 on console didn't even had ray tracing and ran below 30fps. Similar issues plagues DD2 on consoled.
The cross gen era really made people think 60fps would be a new standard lol

Welp, done with Hellblade 2. Thoroughly disappointed. Such a nothing burger after the unique experience of the first game.

I have a PS5 but I am not satisfied with the experience. I am currently saving for a 4080 64 GB rig soon. Bit will wait for Pro if performance improves. This gen has been so bad I don't plan on buying consoles anymore for AAA gaming.

It is indeed the worst generation by far.

Both PS and Xbox have been a flop this gen as they can barely maintain 30 fps in a lot of AAA games th.

As per WCCF Tech review, Xbox Series X doesn't even maintain a consistent FPS and sometimes drops into the mid-20fps range. That's unacceptable, tbh.

Gradually transitioning from console gaming to PC as the games are not worth it. 6 hours of Hellblade 2 is just not worth the $50 price tag.
Score 1 for game pass. I wouldn't pay full price for this at retail either.

Just downloaded my first legit digital PC game on GoG at a discount of $8: Two Point Hospital. The same team behind Theme Hospital Two Point Studios now part of Sega. And I am having more fun than most recent AAA games except of course BG3.

Still, I don't like either Sony or Microsoft as they are focusing more on corporate greed than delighting customers. PC gaming is best of gaming and worth every penny.

PC Gamer score of 58/100 for Hellblade 2??? Is it really worse than Gollum that was 64/100? Microsoft games can't even come close to high scores of Sony exclusives apparently.

About the Microsoft (and Sony) debate, I feel both have become too greedy and losing their minds over corporate greed. Personally, I will never buy any console next gen and switch to PC gaming where democracy reins.
