hey guys,

i need your advice, i applied for jobs in the call centre, after the training i went to mock call and each time i failed because i got nervous and and either took a long pause which failed the mock call or lost fluency in the language and failed it. i haven't worked in any call centre but i do have experience of taking customer orders in English over the phone.

After failing the third time i am beginning to wonder do i have some kind of psychological illness, my trainer was sitting with me in the mock call and another person was taking the mock call over the phone and after the call my trainer told me that he could see my hands trembling (not like gonna die trembling but shaky).

Any tips on how i can get over this. Do i need to see a psychiatrist about this or i need to practice speaking in english and it should become better.

You just sound shy.

Nothing wrong with that.

First time jitters.

Riding a bike man, you learn everything step by step.

Your social insecurity is making it difficult to talk to people in real life I presume.

NOW.

You can do the textbook exercises in overcoming your speech problem in a social situation.

1 - Get a mic, record your own voice, talk to yourself, or read out a script. listen to your own voice

2 - Get a friend, sibling, relative, farigh admi and have a conversation with them in English, real question and answer

There is nothing wrong with you.

Just too much thinking, stress and effort being put into something that's not working out right. :)

Dude, chill out. There is nothing wrong with you. Just like Blast Wave said, it is just typical nerves. It happens to everyone. Just relax, and practice. You'll do just fine.

Your question has been more or less answered adequately, but might I ask, aren't you an Engineer? Of all the places, what are YOU doing in a call center. :s

Just nervous. Yar Ek kaam karo call your own cell phone service provider and talk to them in english about any network issue. That might give you a lil confidence.

Try speaking firstly infront of a mirror, seriously it helps. The image will clear you shyness and creating confidence making you feel that you adressing it to someone :)

Try to be relaxed. Keep in mind the one calling you and the one sitting with you for judgement are no way superior than you. Treat them of your class and caliber. Dont think you are going to have a job after passing the test. Just take it as an exercise meaning thereby that whatever result comes, its not making any difference in you life.

You need not any treatment but exercise and confidence which you can build yourself. I am pretty confident you got potential and ability to turn the things in your favor.

When you're taking a mock call , feel like you own the company and customers can't do anything to you ! Open your heart ... and kick 'em up !

hey guys,

Any tips on how i can get over this. Do i need to see a psychiatrist about this or i need to practice speaking in english and it should become better.
Yes, practice makes a man perfect but you DO NOT need to see a Psychiatrist, Psychologist or even a doctor for this matter. You appear to be a little bit stressed out because of repeated failures.
My two cents on this
  • Take the Chill pill and relax
  • Make your you get adequate sleep in the days preceding the interview
  • Practice, Practice , Practice
  • Pray to Allah a lot
  • Cut down on your caffeine and smoking ( if you do)

As a doctor let me guide you that these energy drinks are the new "Crap" that has grabbed attention of Pakistani youth.

Avoid them at ALL costs.

A recent medical article clearly linked the use of this Crap Drink to increased incidence of side effects including palpitations, hypertension, insomnia, seizure etc. Stroke and Sudden cardiac death have been mentioned as potential side effects.

You can read the original article here and ask a medical colleague to interpret it for you

Health Effects of Energy Drinks on Children, Adolescents, and Young Adults

Denmark, Turkey and Uruguay have banned them; Norway prohibits sales to children under 15.

Bottom line : Avoid them and lead a health life style

Good luck
