Hello,
I need advise on the best cooler to get for cooling the i7 930 for a moderate oc
Locally I'm looking at CM V6GT, Corsair A70, Thors Hammer (Not sure if it would have clearance issues with tall ram heat spreaders)
Or is it better to get Megahalems which I can get from abroad? And in that case which would be the best fans for it?

Facts about the setup:
Mobo: Asus P6t deluxe v2
Ram: Dominator
Case: Cosmos pure

One issue is the dominator's tall heat spreaders, which is limiting choices and the cosmos pure which keeps inflow low in the case, so any suggestions are most welcome. Anyone that has tried a v6gt or A70, please share your experience and rate the coolers according to our avg ambient temperatures, are they any good?
Regards

According to Air dynamics, Thor's Hammer seems to be the best option here. The other two are also great but in terms of air flow and total area of heat dissipation Thor's Hammer is good. Its Black and its beautiful and very effective. Easy to mount fans and remove to clean them. Has spring mounts to prevent any pressure on MB due to weight.

Second imp factor is material, Copper is better heat conductor than aluminum, simple.

Corsair A70 is about similar to rest of high end stuff.

Difference among these coolers is rather minimal. You may get about 2 to 3 degree difference among these provided high quality thermal paste is applied properly.

Anyone of these will get you very good results. CM V6GT may not suite you as its a bit hard to clean and may be tough to mount as its heavy.

What about CM 212+? Is it good for the hot running i7 chips? CM V6GT has the same mounting mechanism as v8 i think, it's a pain to install but can manage, with that said how often is it supposed to be cleaned up?
Tall heat spreaders of Dominator RAMs are also an area of concern, I don't want to remove them so need a cooler that has enough clearance, and at most can compromise the first slot.
I'm open to other local options as well so any recommendations are welcomed

Cleaning is required once in a month, I didn't recommended V6GT exactly because of the reasons that it will be pain to install it and it may not be good for RAMs.

I am myself using Hyper 212+, Don't be fooled be price tag, It is a very good cooler. My i5 idles below 25 and max out at 46 at 3.5Ghz. i7 has more wattage requirements than i5. So it will produce more heat. I would advice getting a classic designed tower type cooler, in this case Corsair A70 or Thor's hammer. Hyper 212+ is also good for mild overclocking but if you have money go for some better quality.

HDT coolers are all very effective, But they will take more than normal thermal paste as there will be gaps in surface due to Direct touching Heat pipes.

Its important to understand how cooling works. Heat travels from hot to cold region. So on Tower type coolers more area is exposed to air and heat will move rapidly cooling CPU effectively and thermal paste will ensure the heat is off the cpu to Cooler Base.

There is no reason to stick to CM as there are lot of new stuff available now a days.

PS: To solve the Memory slot problem, you can mount the fan on other side of the cooler too, just need to flip the fan holders in correct direction. Its possible on bother A70 and Thor's hammer.

So basically now its a choice between A70, Thors Hammer, Noctua C14 or Thermalright HR-02 the available options, confused amongst these, although personally inclined towards thors hammer if it can be mounted differently to accommodate dominator rams

Noctua C14 comes with a noise optimized Noctua fan. Simply put, there is no need to be confused, These are all high end coolers. Pick one you like and in your budget and you are good to go. Even a Hyper 212+ if properly mounted is more than enough.

Thermalright HR-02 is massive and heavy but has lot of air contact which means high heat dissipation efficiency. Noctua C14 on the other hand may cool CPU but its downward direction will throw warm air on your RAMs and GPU, which will increase your ambient temp which will increase your overall temps.

Thor's Hammer and A70 are tower types as well as the HR-02. They will allow warm air to be exhausted at the back of casing. To my experience these are all very silent and minimal impact on overall noise in your PC.

you can also take a measuring tape and get a total free area on your Motherboard with everything installed. RAMs and GPU. width x Length. This will give you a good understanding on how to choose the correct one. Then go to website and specs of coolers and match those area and you will know exactly how much room you need.

Good Luck.

You should also see at Corsair H50, It has a very small footprint on board and Radiator will serve as exhaust + cooler.

I was looking at H50 first, but the only reason I'm not considering those are because of the risks of leakage or any mishaps that can damage the system and I'd not be attending my system 24/7 so the risk is higher than the reward

Than Thor's Hammer, A70, HR=02, Hyper 212+, Thermalright ultra Extreme Rev.C (1366), These are all great, Pick anyone you like the most. Install and forget. Just need to clean the system overall including cooler after about 1 to 2 months.
