Need help with rig

Salam,

Heres my ghareeb rig:

Intel E5300 2.6ghz stock
Kingston 2gb ddr2
Western Digital Caviar Blue 320Gb
ATI HD4850 512mb 256bits



So I got an HD4850 which replaced my old HD4650. I was expecting GTA IV to run atleast with 35+ fps on medium textures and other settings on high. But I only get 20-25fps max
I've got the 1.0.7 patch. I read somewhere that downgrading to 1.0.4 would help in achieving more fps. But I couldnt find a working version. I downloaded one and ran it but it doesnt work. Social club is turned back on with it.

Also would overclocking my cpu to around 3.5ghz help in achieving more fps?

First lemme point out u bungled ur GPU purchase... a quick search thru wudve let u know that the 4XXX series are ancient history! u can easily get a current HD 6XXX series card for under 9k.

second, dont even think about OC ur CPU if its bought 2nd hand or u've been using it for sometime, our Khi weather is very unforgiving and u run the risk of getin shot to sh*t.

And as far as GTA 4 is concerd, try to keep the mem usage (in graphics settings) within 512 mb and dial the "draw distance", "car density" to 10/5 and disable shadows, other than that theres nothin much you can do at this point :-(

This is an old thread. Well I got the 4850 for 5.5k. where as a 5770 would have cost 10k and a 6770 would have cost around 11-12k.
I think GTA IV demands too much. I get decent FPS with this card on most games. about 40-45 at max with a res of 1440x900 on Mafia II, Just Cause 2 etc
