Need help shipping two used cell phones from USA

Anybody can guide me on the shipping service?

Which service I should use?
What are there charges?
Are there custom charges on used phones?
And the over all charges I should be looking for? Also is there any security option?
What the hell is DUTY?

Well, I was hoping for something around $50 or 5,000 Rs on shipping. But its not fixed, so can shift it a bit here and there.

Customs charges to karachi by shipping is going crazy right now.... asking very high rishwat rates... there are lots of PG members who can tell u that...

ur best bet is a relative.... it will pass in the suitcase without any issues at all.

On Page 295 it is mentioned that custom charges on mobile phones is PKR 250 per set.

Custom charges is mentioned there, not Rishwat Charges which will probably be huge depending upon item.

Waysay, as far as I used to know, untill you folk deprived me of all hope I thought custom was only on NEW stuff you bought from some shop.

Why would there be any custom or even RISHWAT charges on something mailed to me by my cousin, via, lets suppose Fed-Ex?

I've had two phones shipped from USA last year and the customs charge/VAT was only 400 Rs.

It was shipped through USPS and got here in 20 days.

So not all is at loss here.

Oh thanks for showing me some light at the end of the tunnel people were making it all look exceptionally dark.
Also a friend of mine had a used cell phone shipped via USPS to Islamabad and according to him there was absolutely no custom charges on it, except the shipping cost obviously.

Courier services are highly recommended though.

In my experience I've yet to see GPO/CUSTOMS bug me for some bribe or anything.

And by courier you mean Fed-Ex/TCS/DHL stuff? Hmm, yeah somebody's rough estimate was 50 USD on Fed-Ex, but somebody has yet to give me some precise charges.

Yea calculate the charges from their website, DHL is much more recommended than the standard USPS to Pakistan (you wont be screwed in a way).

Tried checking online with Fed-Ex, but it kept asking me to make an account, and during the account making it kept asking me for some account number, where I had no idea what to fill, and putting in pointless numbers wasn't helping
Tried DHL website now, but they only have an option for Time Quote... Only USPS seem to have a page for charges.

keep the value of package below 100usd no matter u are getting an iphone 4s
well the old "gift " technique doesnt work any more,

just keep the value below 100usd, it will make some room for negotiations with custom authority ,,
pay 1000rs to them, they will forward ur package with zero duty.

You're right ! You'll only have to pay 250 RS for Custom Duty ... Plus 17% Sales tax , 5% Withholding tax , Plus some other charges !

This is Pakistan , I'm not sure even they charge you 250 for the duty only !

If i was you, i would get " Priority mail " or " First class priority mail ". Secondly, i would get the phones unpacked and put them with each packing seperately inside the bubble bag or box for delivery. Things I need to avod customs would be like firstly to get a document ( fake ) that the phones are locked and cannot be used anywhere in the world. I would put a dummy security code ( receiver would know how to unlock it ), even they get switched on by customs. Fake document creation, u have plenty of websites dude

Then put a fake value ( 10 dollar to 30 dollar ) if caught by custom, so you can deny the fact that these phones are for some bacha's and it is a gift from mamu ( ussi ko mamu bana dena ). I am assuring you that you will not be charged customs more than 400 PKR. Don't follow the FBR rule book at this hour, as no one even knows in the custom it exists
