Need a Graphics card ASAP

Hey everyone, i used to have an xfx 8600 gts but its trashed now. Therefore i urgently need another one, my budget lies under Rs. 15000 with the flexibility of about Rs. 1000 or something. Plus i also need to know which power supply to throw in with it cuz currently i have 350 watts. And to give u a slight idea about the specs:

AMD Athlon X2 dual-core 6000+
RAM: 2 x Corsair 1 GB ddr-2 800 MHz
2 x 320 GB Western digital SATA HDD
Sony superdrive
Asus dvd drive
Motherboard: ASUS M2N-E

And i repeat, i need urgent help. Any help will be highly appreciated.

i was personally looking for gts 250 1 gb, but apparently it isn't available here these days. btw my budget including the cost of PSU is around 23k.

You dont need the 1GB variant unless you're gaming at 1920x1080 or something. And the gains in performance would still not be as much as the extra price you pay for it over 512mb GTS 250.

What hasanJ suggested is pretty good combo but you can expect excellent frames with that at even 1680x1050.

since GTS250 512MB and 1GB have negligible performance difference on 1440X900
on higher resolutions the 1GB on pulls ahead

since u have 23K Budget
u can get GTX260 for 19k but ur processor culd bottleneck its performance

if u can spend more than ASUS 500W iz MORE than enuff

And talking in terms of price to performance ratio, which one's better? gts 250 512 mb, gts 250 1 gb, or gtx 260? Whts the VRAM for gtx 260?

Many would say GTS 250 512MB offers great performance for its price, which is true. 1GB doesn't offer that much for its price.

But if you're gonna spend more money, the GTX 260 is by far the best card you can get for your money. Its VRAM is 896MB.

I guess i'll go for gtx 260 ... if i'm made sure it'll work fine with 500 watt psu, considering the specs of my system.

I'd still want to know about ATIs tho.

HD4850 512MB is equivalent of the GTS 250 512MB
HD4870 512MB/1GB are equivalents of GTX 260 192sp/216sp [this is the Shader Processors count on the card...216 are marked with 'Core 216' for EVGA...and all XFX Black editions are 216sp as well]

Compatibility with what?

ATI always offers better price/performance ratio cards...or more affordable you can say because performance is dependent on games.

Personally, I'd recommend Nvidia.

1. Many games are catching up to the Phsyx technology (Batman AA being an excellent example), and ATI does not support that.
2. Nvidia having a greater market share also has the advantage of most games being optimized for their cards.
3. It also has better coolers for the cards so they don't run as hot as ATI...or even as loud.
4. It also has CUDA support...and softwares like BADABOOM make video encoding incredibly simple and extremely fast.

These are my reasons for buying nvidia cards.

Ati well... they're relatively cheaper with almost equal/better performance in some games.

Its not about personal preference anymore. Enough games are actively using techs which some cards support and others don't.

Ofcourse if Physx doesn't mean anything to you... then don't buy nvidia. And thats just one of the reasons. But more than enough games support it and its bloody awesome..and something you shouldn't miss out on just coz you bought ATi. I listed many other advantages over ati... people buy ati because its cheaper.
