I have had this issue going on with me from the past week and frankly i feel frustrated. I need to reboot my nexus 5 phone several times per day just so that this mm-qcamera-daemon doesn't eat up all my battery and it keeps coming back. Its definitely related to the camera since i have read a lot of other people suffering from the same issue. My android version is 4.4.4, this issue was reported in the earlier nexus 5 with android versions 4.4.2 and was fixed in 4.4.3 but its back again.

So to sum it all up, i just need a fix for this please? Google didn't help so anyone else having the same phone and issue, who might have worked his way around it, could you please help me?

Here is a picture for reference showing how much battery this thing is eating up. Stays between 40%-50% and that is a lot.

I never had the issue and AFAIK it's a firmware issue that was on earlier Android 4.4.2 devices ,tried full factory reset?

Well i have nexus 5 on latest build and no such problem using ART and on 4.4.4. Why don't you switch to ART and factory reset the phone just in case some bug has gotten it's way into ur phone? Or maybe have it scanned as it seems kind of some rootkit shyt. Is your phone rooted?

I Am Also On Android 4.4.4 and using Dalvik cause art causes compatibility issue it also shows up in my phone's Battery usage but it only drained 5% battery even after hours of use. I'll Recommend doing Factory Reset do It and Report Back + I Always use Green Power Battery Saver Which Gives Me Some Extra Hours to Use.

Haven't tired one myself though but read somewhere it didn't really help much. I might try doing one now.

Phones not rooted. Is there a way to figure out which app is causing this bug?

Hmm.. Try checking what applications are using Camera or have asked permission to access Camera. Than Uninstall them one by one. Only this way you can get to the root of problem.
Snapchat, Skype, Watsapp, Viber, Line, Tango, and even Translator app from Google. Check all the apps which are permitted to use the camera and find the culprit.

How long does the battery last when
1) on Standby ,wifi Off
2) Wifi on and browsing using apps etc

Report back ! Because I get around 14hours battery life of which 6 hours is on standby and 8 hours is on wifi turned on

Edifier I was having the same issue with my N5 a few days ago, sometimes it would say 'Cant connect to Camera' and the camera app would FC.
I looked it up, some people solved it because they had either Snapchat or Skype installed.
I uninstalled Skype, no more mm-qcamera-daemon.
There's no official fix yet.

I haven't really checked how long it lasts but it certainly doesn't last 14 hours a day since i charge it almost twice. So you could say probably half the time you get.

Yup i get the same errors when accessing my camera and as soon as i do that the qcamera-daemon starts running in the background processes. I don't have skype but i do have snapchat which i will now be uninstalling.

babarhyd murtaza12 I think i might have solved the problem. Uninstalled snapchat, viber and retrica and rebooted the phone. The camera seems to be working fine now. Although will be monitoring it until tommorow to check if the issue comes back again.

Yeah the applications which use camera consumes alot of battery so i always avoid using those apps Or install greenify to hibernate them.

Problem solved. The bug was probably in snapchat or retrica as far as i can tell. So if anyone else experiences this kind of a problem again instead of doing a factory reset just delete these apps. Might solve your issue.

Thank you everyone for your kind input. :)
