no no i m asking about laptop's main battery not cmos battery try removing and reinstalling it and are you sure new windows didn't solved your problem ? sometimes malware and some software wont allow proper shutdown but installing new windows usually help. have you installed fresh windows or just updated the previous one ? and was this button working perfectly before ? and which windows is it ? there is shutdown/restart problem with windows 8 so if possible install windows 8.1.

JAYZZY its not that tough thing!

When u start up, it says to press "f1" "f10" or "del" button to go to bios menu, from there u can easily find bios reset setting. (It will not affect your windows). This little thing can solve many many problems.
Give it a try.

I tried googling your issue, u r not alone in "windows shuts down but pc doesnt" "power and wifi lights still on after shut down" :D

@JAYZZY : Grab a screw driver, and search "(Your Laptop Model number) Repair" on Youtube. Follow the guide, and Disassemble the laptop completely. Clean the hsf, reapply Thermal paste, and also change CMOS battery OR just change the battery if the Laptop seems clean.

@ikonox: still the same .

looks like i have to find out where the CMOS battery is in the laptop .
Do this to refresh your system memory/circuits. Plugin the charger, remove the battery while laptop is still turned on, then press and hold the power off button until laptop is off. Then remove the charger and push the power button for 10-20 seconds. Then put in the battery and start the laptop as normal, see if that resolves your issue.
