Salam to all PG members today I bring you the Unboxing of the year material something that I have had my eyes on for a long time and Mashallah by the grace of Allah I have it now
I bring you the KEF LS50 Wireless speakers and as you guys already know I am an enthusiast for music just recently bought the opus 1 DAP and now I am adding this which is my very first audiophile grade speaker system and God knows if its the last or its just getting started.
My journey:
Well it all started back in 1997 I was under 10 years old and my elder brothers just bought a PlayStation one which could play audio CDs and later on VCDs they bought an amplifier and speakers to go with it and it was anything fancy just generic desi amp and open speakers in DIY cabinets from Murree road Rawalpindi we used that setup for about 4 years then added two more 10’ speakers which made it plenty loud but to be honest I dont remember the audio quality just a lot of bass and plenty loud then fast forward a few years we bought the first Panasonic CD player 5.2 channel which again raised the bar for the audio quality to be expected at home and around then I read my first review of shure se530 they just got out at that time and i thing it was on engadget.com priced at 445£ I was like what? You must be out of your mind to pay that much for a pair of earphones and What’s in the sound that it costs that much? Hahahah then I bought creative T3 speakers in Beijing which are plenty loud and deliver a good quality sound yet retain a very small footprint I mean the bass that comes out of its subwoofer is amazing for its size and the details in the music is so much better so when I was visiting Pakistan I turned up my old CD player system and then for the first time I was like what this sounds trash compared to the ones I have in Beijing so my 15k speakers were putting the 60k system to shame already so I thought yeah there must be something to it I mean the size of the speakers or the number of speakers etc and the next big Purchase was the Hifiman HE 400i headphones which do have their pros and cons but they are good nonetheless just made for specific genres and then Shure se846 happened and now I cannot go back to the poor audio anymore now i have listened to the best offerings such as LCD3 by audeze, JH audio roxxanne, layla, angie, ultimate ears, fit ears, campfire audio, sennheiser HD800. 650, 600 and the list goes on and on and yeah I do believe that this level of quality of sound cannot be compared and achieved with the cheap earphones/ headphones. I was just like the regular guy whi never bought the idea of expensive audio equipment but here i am and fully satisfied.
KEF LS50W:
Some of you who are familiar with better audio equipments will know the name KEF and one of their best selling models was KEF LS50 which was launched as their 50th Anniversary edition but it has sold tremendously well over the world with exceptional response from the audiophile community and taking that into account late last year they launched the LS50 Wireless which took the same Uni-q driver and built a fully active speaker system around it and It has everything built inside it has dedicated DACs, streamer, amplifiers etc everything that you would need to get them running and more importantly to get them perform at the most optimum level of performance because you need to account for the synergy in the music system and there’s no need to match it with different amps, preamps, dacs etc just connect your source and off you go.
They are called wireless not because they will run without power cords or other cables rather they can connect with other devices wirelessly such as Bluetooth for phones and wifi (Nas storage/computers). The wired connections include optical in, PC and AUX so no matter what device you’re rocking you will be able to play your music without much hassle.
For the best quality you need the wired connection period!
Design:
It looks gorgeous to say the least I am simply in love with the way they look the black and blue are a good match but I doubt there will be much choice for blending them with the furniture though. The cabinet has a glossy finish and feels very substantial with no knocking sound whatsoever, the speakers look small but each weighs about 11KGs and so the looks can sure be deceiving in this case.
Stands:
They are custom made built specifically for the LS50s pure wood and they are sturdy and solid which is essential for producing the desired sound.
Sound:
Well that’s another story to be honest as I have only auditioned them twice and bought them now they are in Islamabad and I am in Beijing so I cant listen to them till I get home.....
From what I remember from my auditions they sounded fantastic and grand especially considering their small footprint they can really fill up a medium sized room. The instrument separation, imaging the vocals everything sounds superb coming out of these I just loved them.
such a shame but any ways I have them and I want them to last me years to come and I will attach some links including their official webpage and some YouTube videos you can check them out yourself and see what they truly are as I cant comment much as of right now
Pictures:
I am attaching the pictures that my friend took they are low quality and shaky so don’t expect my usual unboxing pics I will post proper pics when I get home and set them up.
The first batch includes the original pictures that he took he just had to make sure they are functional and sit well on the stands he has no idea about unboxings and what’s required for this but no worries
The beauty in black and blue....the front has a very nice matte black finishing with the driver in center and nothing else around..very tastefully done indeed.
It says LS50 Wireless on top while the regular one just says LS50
It has a glossy Piano black finishing on the sides which under certain lighting conditions shows a hint of transparency and its really solid there’s literally no knocking sound they look fragile but very solidly build indeed.
This is the master speaker from top it has a touch panel for switching inputs and changing volume...this is how you can tell which input you’re using as there is no other indication anywhere else on the system.
This is back of the master speaker and it has all the connectivity options such as ethernet, optical in, subwoofer, usb for computer and the EQ options for the speakers which can be changed according to their placement such as desk or stand and wall(close to a wall) or free space.
The large piece of metal on the back isn’t just cosmetic its a proper heat sink that’s built in as a design choice for cooling the powerful amplifier inside.
This the back of the slave speaker and doesn’t have much other than just connecting to the master speaker
Batch number 2:
These pictures are taken off the internet just to give you guys a proper look of the speakers and save you some google time
The box itself
These are heavy I mean really heavy especially considering how small they are
The KEF Wireless app has a ton of features to really fine tune the sound to your liking and it supports streaming from Tidal and Spotify out of the box
This guy has done a tremendous job of capturing the beauty of these speakers the link to his review is down below though in different color but its striking nonetheless
