I am looking for something interesting to read about in my free time, not another fictional novel, something proper that gives you knowledge.
I know quite a lot of people who study subjects like Geography, Anthropology, Psychology, History etc. in their free time.

What do you study and what would you recommend to me?

Are you looking for some in depth study on a particular subject or just something to kill time?

It really comes down to what your interests are... especially when you are looking to kill time.

In my free time (or in between long boring meetings) I usually enjoy learning about universe (stars, planets, etc.) The place is so full of mystery, it's amazing.

Moreover, I use "Space Engine" space simulator software that really helps on this subject. Looking at different stars, how their planetary system adopts to them. Or looking at a black hole and see how stars zoom past it as they get near to it following their orbit. The possibilities are endless!

If you're not into that stuff, maybe you can catch up on latest tech and gizmos. Gizmodo and Engadget are a good source of info and have interesting small articles (their sister sites such as Kotaku, Joystiq, lifehacker etc are good too).

Another part of my new developing hobby is photography. I check up on good lenses and different techniques of photography. Since I have a huge boner on space stuff... space photography is my main focus... and so is macro since everything looks alien with macro photography!

This seems like exactly the thing I've been looking for, which book do you recommend for a first time hossein nasr reader?

IF this discussion is about just books, continue here

www.pakgamers.com/forums/f3/official-books-%7C-literature-thread-6795/

Otherwise, carry on
It is not just about books, it is a proper discussion about different subjects and it wouldn't get the audience I'm hoping for in the sticky thread.

Thank you for your reply, I'm looking for in depth study, something that challenges my intelligence, adds to my knowledge and stuff.

Photography is an obsession of mine as well, I study different articles heck watch videos as well but I'm looking for a proper subject to study. Astronomy however is something very interesting and one thing I'd like to learn about.

Knowledge and the Sacred
Ideals and Realities of Islam

these both sound religious, but they are only semi religious..since he has a very strong grasp of physics, metaphysics and mathematics his books are exceptionally good at making sense via logical and critical thinking.

I usually stay away from religious stuff, but since you are recommending it I'd have a go. Will let you know my opinion.

Books:

- If you want to learn about the world in general then consider reading Atlas, Encyclopedia, Biographies and Scientific topics.

Online:

- If you want to learn about the Universe then explore this database: N.A.A.'s Best Astronomy Websites

- If you want to learn about lot of stuff in general, then explore this source: Encyclopedia | Smithsonian

Must check:

- Explore the website of NASA. Lot of interesting stuff in it. Here: https://solarsystem.nasa.gov/index.cfm

- Read Holy Quran with English translation from this source. Your understanding about "what is wrong in this world" and some "historic developments" will tremendously increase and you will be able to rediscover your faith.

Personally i see only one game that should be truly deserving of GOTY title this year (if it delivers). And that's KCD:II

  • XPremiuM XPremiuM:
The gameplay is generic & outdated in that game. And it's 5 hour campaign is too short to enjoy.

About Hellblade 2, I just watched the story on a YT channel out of curiosity and I think it has the Hallmark of a GOTY this year. While many criticize the game and I also don't like this genre of game, I believe the story and visuals looks like a cenimatic masterpiece.
It may win the "best visuals" category, but that's about it. A GOTY contender needs to nail all aspects (Story, Gameplay, Visuals, etc)

Just downloaded Farm Simulator 2024. The game is available for free on Epic fo limited time. I always wondered how our food is harvested. This game endorsed by the UN will reveal the process of farming.

BTW, i started Ghost of Tsushima, and it got me hooked within the first couple of minutes. I already know It's gonna be a memorable experience. This is how you make a proper Samurai game. Not that SJW game Ubisoft is making.

Hellblade 2 has a lower peak player count than Redfall 😬
That's still higher than it's total play length. A 5 hour campaign for a $50 game is downright scammy.

Consoles were my main platform ever since Atari 2500. But now I think it's not worth it as PC especially with DLSS deliver far smoother performance. AW2 on console didn't even had ray tracing and ran below 30fps. Similar issues plagues DD2 on consoled.
The cross gen era really made people think 60fps would be a new standard lol

Welp, done with Hellblade 2. Thoroughly disappointed. Such a nothing burger after the unique experience of the first game.

I have a PS5 but I am not satisfied with the experience. I am currently saving for a 4080 64 GB rig soon. Bit will wait for Pro if performance improves. This gen has been so bad I don't plan on buying consoles anymore for AAA gaming.

It is indeed the worst generation by far.

Both PS and Xbox have been a flop this gen as they can barely maintain 30 fps in a lot of AAA games th.

  • L LegacyGamerGuy:
As per WCCF Tech review, Xbox Series X doesn't even maintain a consistent FPS and sometimes drops into the mid-20fps range. That's unacceptable, tbh.

Gradually transitioning from console gaming to PC as the games are not worth it. 6 hours of Hellblade 2 is just not worth the $50 price tag.
Score 1 for game pass. I wouldn't pay full price for this at retail either.

Just downloaded my first legit digital PC game on GoG at a discount of $8: Two Point Hospital. The same team behind Theme Hospital Two Point Studios now part of Sega. And I am having more fun than most recent AAA games except of course BG3.

Still, I don't like either Sony or Microsoft as they are focusing more on corporate greed than delighting customers. PC gaming is best of gaming and worth every penny.
