Information regarding patched mobiles

Hello everyone!
I am thinking of buying a google pixel 3 but due to very high tax on this phone (around 40K)only patched version is being sold in the market normally . But the thing is that patched phones are a bit risky , for instance, what if the phone is patched against an IMEI which was used for illegal activities etc etc.
So my question is, is it possible to get your phone patched against an IMEI of your own choice? like if I have a dead iphone , can i get my non pta phone patched against the imei of my iphone?

Although that's illegal Yes its possible, You can bring a cheap phone to get it flashed with that imei.

And just so you know patching is just another name for illegally changing imei on phones.
