Hey man, I have also applied in IBA, but for BS(CS), and my test is on 14th July. Here's what I have been advised so far: Interview is just a formality and is perfunctory. If you have made it in the merit list, you are pretty much in. All you have to do is be confident (I know that sounds hackneyed, but it is the truth), and show them that you really are interested in getting in, and you know just a little about what you have applied for (in your case, BBA). Few common questions that you might face:

  • Why IBA?
  • Why are you interested in studying BBA/BS(CS)?
  • Have you applied anywhere else?
  • What if we reject your application?

Coincidentally, these are the exact same questions that I was asked in my SZABIST interview. Answer them preferably in English and don't bullshit. They have an interviewer present in the panel which is eminent in the field of study you have applied for. For example, I told them I knew how to program (computer programming) and they bounced a couple questions pertaining to programming off me. Thankfully, I was able to answer them right back because I really know how to program and didn't bullshit. Tell them about your extracurricular activities. Do not show disinterest or act as if IBA is your backup school. As far as group sessions are concerned, I have been told (by IBA students) that BS(CS) students do not go through them, so I really don't know much about them.

If you have applied anywhere else, be true about it. They know that more or less, all of their applicants have applied in other universities as well. Cajoling them by saying that you are in a "do or die situation" with IBA and haven't applied anywhere else will send off a negative vibe. After you have opened up, now is your chance to butter them up by telling them why do you prefer IBA over the others (remember: don't show disinterest, even if IBA is your backup school). For example, in my SZABIST interview, I told them I have applied to FAST, but then I refined by telling them why do I prefer SZABIST over FAST.

On to my question: Could you tell me a bit about your test? I know that tests for CS and BBA are dissimilar, but still, it'd be nice to get an idea of what appeared this year.

Edit: Check out a similar thread I made a while ago: http://www.pakgamers.com/forums/f163/ibas-group-activities-interview-165322/

Incidentally, I also applied for IBA. Waiting for the results to be uploaded which should be done any time now.

What r4fay said is more or less true. Except that your interview is only a formality when you have done well in the test, but if you just passed then the interview will be considerably harder. The main thing for interview is confidence.

Could you tell me about the test? How was it? How many questions were there in total? Also, I believe your result will be uploaded tomorrow after Maghrib.

Maths section was easy. I didn't study a word of english but the MCQ portion was not that hard. There was a very strange comprehension but other than that, it was okay. The essay topic was "Some believe in taking risks, others in careful planning". The topic was quite simple but for some strange reason I really messed it up. And if it wasn't for the essay, I would have been sure of passing the test.

In total there were 60 MCQs for english and 60 for maths. Time given for english was 60 minutes and maths 75 minutes(I think). And essay time was 35 minutes. From what I have heard, you cannot really predict when the result will be uploaded though normally it's 9pm on the day it was supposed to be announced.

Ah, thanks brother. Did the English portion had any exclusive vocab-based MCQs? Like synonyms, antonyms, or just plain old vocabulary MCQs. Because those are the only questions I'm worried about. I have managed to memorize about 1200 SAT words, but I do feel that they are not enough. BS(CS) doesn't have have essay in the test, which is balanced by increasing the difficulty of mathematics portion and adding more mathematics questions.

Just for the information, I should mention last year's (November, 2012) cut-off score, which was 103 out of 344. Personally, I think that's very low. Individual cut-off(s) were 52 (out of 180) for English and 44 (out of 164) for mathematics.

I can't quite recall any vocabulary questions that came in our paper. There were cloze passages, arranging of sentences in the right order and comprehensions. But no vocabulary questions as far as I remember. It really depends on your luck as to which type of questions come in your paper. And 1200 SAT words are way more than enough. Mostly, they ask for the contextual meanings in any case.

Cut off depends on the difficulty and the students performance, so I'm not really surprised to see these scores because a lot of people give the test. When my sister gave the test(2010) the maths cut-off was like 50/200.

And btw dude, why are you complaining about the fact that cut off is too low. I would say the lower the better :p

concerning the test, the bba test was quite easy actually,or so it seems!!..
math questions were tricky but the english part was comparatively easy!!
Essay was good!!..i wrote 390-400 tho people wrote more than 400..which might actually cause deduction of marks since theere would be no conclusion if the stop reading at 400 counted tho there wud be a limit of 430 words mayb!!

the bcs test idk bout it but i think maths would be of intermediate level or As level..the pain in the ass is tht we cant use a freakin calculator so we have to learn all the sin cos tan angles and other shortcuts to complete the paper in time!!..=//..

thanks for the interview tips!!
And today the result was gonna be announced idk what the hell are they doing!!
and i had the sAbist interview on saturday itwas easy!!..today both results wud be announced iba n szabist!!..=(..
In Sha Allah i will get the admission!!..=D

I think u messed up the no. of questions and time given for that!
In my test which was held in the city campus, there were 45 english questions for which we were given 45 mins.In maths there were 50 questions for which 80 mins were given.Essay topic was the same as mentioned by saad and the time given was 40 mins.
Maths section was mainly composed of common algebra, few percentages and ratios questions etc
English section had jumbled paragraph, cloze test, vocab, critical reasoning and reading comprehension. There were no grammar questions like spotting error and sentence correction. For me english section was quite hard as it was not according to the pattern(SAT 1)!

But wasn't that a cloze passage?(that strange dinosaurs one). I left most if it as well.
Cloze passage was the second one I guess in which we had to put correct grammer!
Well, the test had gone now, pray for the results.
I'm pretty much scared of the english's cut-off,you won't believe I only attempted 22 questions :(
