Culver City (CA) - According to figures released by Nielsen VideoScan, recent Blu-Ray sales are trouncing HD-DVD by a 2 to 1 margin. The figures add up sales from retail registers, along with some websites, and cover the second week of January 2007. According to Nielsen, Blu-Ray has also closed the gap in total sales since inception from 14% to 7%. If the trend continues, Blu-Ray should overtake HD-DVD in less than a month.

The most popular Blu-Ray disc during the reporting perod was Crank with Black Hawk Down as a distant second. Batman Returns was the most bought HD-DVD disc with Mission Impossible III following behind.


One easy explanation for Blu-Ray's rise is the included player inside of all Sony PlayStation 3 consoles. Millions of consoles have been sold and most include a voucher for money back on a Blu-Ray disc purchase.

its all but over, the only golden period that HD DVD had over blu ray was because of lack of proper movies and players, for now the war between the two formats is all but over.

Its really sorry to see you people gloating over the victory of something which you don't want, don't use and can't afford.
I have always said i have no interest in this futile format war, because both these formats are doomed, sale and software sale for both these formats is extremely low.

hmm.. strange there has never been a sales chart. And i have always said blu ray and hd dvd are a unneeded technology they cannot replace dvds in the next 2 years and by then there would be better technology and digital distribution.

The biggest problem is people aren't ready to give up dvd's everyone thinks they are perfectly fine even HDTV owners are just happy upscaling the contecnt people just don't want either blu ray or HD DVD and with digital downloads already gaining huge popularity i don't see a bright future for next gen movie formats.

I didn't write the aritcle perhaps you know, the above opinion was mine and i still stick to it.
