how to connect my guitar to guiat rig!

Hey someone told me that i should try out this software called guitar rig using which I could apply some effects like distortion and a bunch of other stuff .. so this seemed like a good idea so I went to the market that bought that pin converter thingy and now I can connect my guitar to my pc .. but the pc is although it is connected in line in it doesnt work with guitar rig or anything? I even tried connecting it in mic in but still doesnt work .... no sound no nothing ..

I know it sounds a little confusing but someone who has used this software might be able to help me ?

I m using AMPLITUBE 2....V nice software, t can do many stff(including distortion )

i cnnect my guitar through line IN.....GOOGLE "ASIO 4 ALL", its a small driver package tat can reduce the deLAY.....

I hav no experience with GUITAR RIG....but u can install ASIO maybe that solveZ ur probelm oR u can use AMPLITUBE too...

I dont think you can replace inbuilt speakers?
