Anyhow, just got these planar magnetic headphones from the US at, let's just say, a fantastic price.
Not endgame stuff as my favorites remain the custom EMU, but still, a game of it's own.
PROS:
- Very open, natural sound.
- Very comfortable fit.
- Superb packaging by the Chinese - just great. Best packaging ever for a pair of heaphones.
- Superb carry case - must be worth $50 alone, that's how good it is.
- Great sound overall - soundstage, immersion, balance is all great. Bass goes real low, to my surprise. Not that punch, but hey... it's fully open back. Just the sound I was looking for.
- Efficient for an amp... but still not that efficient (check CONs).
- Great mechanism - simple 2.5mm stereo jacks for the removable cable. Nice thick yet light braided cord.
CONS:
- NEED an amp. No two ways about it. I already HAVE amps and still, all the stuff in my current arsenal is INSUFFICIENT. So, you need a REAL GOOD AMP (probably in the $200 to $400 range at least)... else, don't even bother buying these.
- Clamp a bit too strong, but may adjust after use (I hope).
- Fragile. Not very, but still. Mostly though, still plastic, so I give points to my other, endgame cans here again.
- Not basshead. Though the bass is completely present here, if you’re looking for basshead cans, these are not it.
- Leakage – these are open cans and leak sound as anything. Almost as much outside as in, and isolation is obviously poor. Keep that in mind.
Nothing is night and day difference. My $50 cans still sound pretty close, but well, I wanted to experience planar sound, and these sure are much open, much more natural and not fatiguing.
I will review them in detail, probably after an amp. Maybe it'll be too late then. Let's see. So far, I'm very happy. All genres perform very satisfyingly, and even for a bassophile/electrohead like me, it's great piece of equipment.
Chinese have really gone so much ahead in their stuff now. My DAC, my Amp and these cans are all Chinese, and it's just top notch quality at very, VERY affordable prices.
