GTX580 is ~10% Faster on average than HD6970
HD6970 in Crossfire will increase the performance upto 95%

It is recommended to upgrade to a Core i5 Processor and using 2x HD7850 instead

6970 crossfire scales mostly from 85-95% so you are good there.
But your i3-2100 will be a bottleneck if it isn't already.
Best you upgrade to i5 now and later down the road go for Crossfire.

Btw are you getting 6970 new or used?
If it is new, then best go for what hasanj suggested.
First i5-2500k -> sell your 6970 and get 7850 ->crossfire 7850.

Yeah, performance wise,,, if u can get a second 6970 for 21-22k, ten crossfire wud give u better results than a single 7970... But honestly speaking.... Multi GPU scaling must be avoided cuz of the scaling issues and One card solution is always better,,,

i was thinking the same but 7850 is almost same or less on stock clocks bro and if i sell it on pg most i get is 22k that wouldnt be a wise decision and 6970 is easily available for 22 23 k

i think first i need to buy a processor i5 cause i think its i3 is bottlenecking i cant play gta 4 frames always dropes and on other games i am getting good frames and gta 4 processor taking full load so i think i need to buy a processor

I was thinking the same, but problem is your power supply is 750watt.
6970 crossfire would work but its not recommended for long term usage.
7850 consumes much less power and is this better.

I'd agree with live wire , get a i5 2400 and then go for the crossfire
Btw I heard the AMD 6000 series drivers are now pretty much stable
