Having trouble with PS Network Cards

I want to fund my PSN Wallet and download games instead of buying them. I have a region 1 PS4. I recently asked my cousin in Canada to buy $70 worth of Network Cards of Region 1 and Whatsapp me the codes and I'll redeem it. But my console kept giving me an "Invalid code" error. He bought 2 more cards and the same result. He even tried it from there (accessing my PSN via a PC) but same result.

I asked him five times and he assured me that he bought region 1 cards. Anyways the cards got returned so no harm done. But I don't understand what the problem is. I bought my PSN Plus Membership from Pakistan (that also Region 1) so there can't be a problem with my PSN account. Does anyone have an idea?

I used caps and the servers were under maintenance a couple weeks back. I tried it last night. Is it because they were bought from Canada? But the region was the same as my PSN. :S

Problem solved. Turns out Region 1 is both US and Canada so you need to get Region 1 USA and Region 1 Canada separately. He didn't know so he mistakenly got Region 1 Canada.
