yar a simple question about psu..
i have recently got my frnd a psu from local market for his gts250.
psu is branded 400w.
it got two +12v rails... both got 18a.
soo total will be 36amps.
but on psu its like that:

+12v2: 18a |__________|

it should be 36 amps.. y 29a?

btw it is running gts250 fine. cause i think even 29a is enough for gts250.

^^Those two rails have to share a single +12v power source, which is only capable of putting out 29a. So if one of your rails is loaded up to 18a the other will only be able to put out 11a means if you are using single rail then you get the 18a but if you use both then you will get 18a on 1st and 11a on 2nd
some power supplies have 20a on each but give 32a total , the dual rail design in the power supplies is better single rails in power supplies are superior but these days pplz usally install dual cards most of the newer PSU have dual rails, youll notice they are usualy SLI ready aswell.

GTX 460 details about power supplies are added in the first thread
I saw that this card is really a nice card and its power requirements are little higher then expected its consumes a total power of 160watt but its performance totally worth and keep one thing in mind that power requirement of this card is based up on 1gb version

Its competitive in NVIDIA dx10 series is gtx285 in some cases and that card perform well but gtx285 consumes about 190watt and on other side this card can complete with gtx465 and gtx465 consume 200watt power and its competitive in ATI is 5830 in some cases and 5830 consumes about 180watt power so I think 460 is best value for buck and a must have card

Sunny you have compiled a superb dooper guide. Really appriceative. I didnt initially knw what 12v rail is, what it has to do with gpu. But now atleast i know the basics of psu.
Well can you guide me with this.
I have core i3 setup, a hdd, dvdrom, 2gb ddr3 ram, a led fan, that i bought frm local market
......
Now just today ive bought 5830 xfx.
Nw whch psu should i buy. Dont recomend me xigmatec, as they are out of stock.
I want the psu that should be availabl at galaxy, should be very safe, should be in budget.
BUDGET + SAFETY = My requirement.
If possible, kindly provide with calculations. Thanks alot

Since silent pro 600w is modular, i prefrd to buy it, also it is 400 cheaper, plus it is 600w, compard to 550w vx corsair

keep this in mind that corsair is way too much better then corsair

so is that corsair psu 100% safe for my rig with 5830. Also kindly send me calculations, eg. Pro=73 watt etc

brother for your system a corsair 400watt is enough no need to expend that much on a power supply but if you have plans for Crossfire in future then you can get 550watt corsair and if you are in karachi then i suggest you to leave corsair and get Silverstone 500watt from czone in 5400rs

SS 500watt gives 34a and 5830 consumes 15a and other 19a for rest of the products so its won't be a problem
your gpu will run fine under the Silverstone 500watt
