Hey there brothers! I'm Talha from Sheikhupura, aged 16. I've recently joined the summer camp of Punjab College and I'm honestly confused between ICS and FSC. I'm solemnly interested into technology, by “technology” I mean my aptitude is toward the modernized computer technology, mainly software. I'm determined to do Software Engineering in future but I chose F.Sc so that the doors of options do not close, but I think it's kinda hypothetical.

I've thoroughly analyzed the Computer book of ICS Part I, everything is on my fingertips. So, which shall I choose? ICS or F.Sc? For example, if I choose ICS, is there any disadvantages? What about the entry test? Does Chemistry play any role in Software Engineering? Waiting for immediate support, thanks.

When I was your age, i got admission in both but I chose ICS because my head was straight that i will go into computers. Plus i hated memorizing things by heart and was afraid of chemistry :p If you think you already know much in computer science then it is a plus point. you can get good marks and get admission in a good university for bachelors. That should be your main concern getting into a good university. No one will ever care what you did in ICS or FSC.

Regarding the keeping options open, its just like a person drives on the service road instead of the main road when he knows where the turn is just to keep his options open :salute:

If your target is only Software engineering or Better BSCS and no love for engineering, Choose ICS
you may get better marks in Computer subject in ICS than Chemistry in FSC. chemistry is a tough subject

Better marks mean admission in good university

I've done ICS and currently studying Computer Science at NUST.

If you're into software engg/Comp. Science, there is absolutely no reason for you to do F.Sc, just go straight to ICS. As an advantage, you won't to give Chemistry tests in Entry tests :p. I don't think Chemistry matters even a little in Computer Science. It would only matter if you work for a super world-class Chemical Engineering Mega-corporation. :p

I planned early. I knew what I wanted to do in life. And chose ICS without second thought. And I don't regret it. Who cares if the 'doors close'. We aren't gonna doing Electrical Engineering, Mechanical, Chemical engineering anyway (since you're interested in technology and software).

Thank you very much, this gave me a big fucking relief.

Also, I'd like to ask what's the main difference between Computer and Software Engineering? I think Computer engineering includes hardware, right? Please explain, thanks!

i was in the similar situation 3 years back. i also wanted to pursue computer career but i chose fsc just to be on the safe side because after completing fsc you will have choice either to go for engineering or computer science. if you chose ics you will be confined to computer science only. Choose fsc just in case if you change your mind later on so you could pursue any of the two. believe me, you wont regret your choice.
