RT Reflection implementation is quite disappointing on Series X, and further downgraded in performance RT mode.

The visuals mode seems to hit native 4K much like the regular performance mode, but features additional ray tracing features - most notably, reflections can now appear on all shiny surfaces, compared to performance RT mode which restricts reflections to cars only.
This extra visual fidelity is made possible by a hybrid approach to reflections. Dynamic objects like cars and scenery very near the player car are reflected using ray tracing, while most of the scenery around you is handled via a cubic environment map texture sampled every other frame (ie at 30fps) - which creates a bit of a mismatch versus the RT reflections that update at 60fps. Another factor is that RT reflections are limited to mirror-like surfaces rather than (more computationally expensive) rougher materials.
But that's the cost of doing 60fps on an AMD console.

DF also confirms a downgrade from pre-release footage.

The only real disappointment is that the underlying technology isn't being pushed as far as it seems it could be and how it was initially presented in marketing materials.
I doubt even the PC version will live up to the initial reveal trailer.

Who cares, the released game is incredible too. 99% of games don't live up to their initial target reveals. Correction: 2077% of games :p
Not that incredible actually when an open world racer on the same engine looks better.

Some end up far exceeding their initial targets (on PC at least) with no competition in sight for the foreseeable future ;)

Really dissatisfied with how the game looks as a Forza fan...cars look like plastic and contrast is off. Imo horizon 5 looks better

Like I said before, it's a good enough looking game but so are Assetto Corsa Comp, Project Cars 3 and even Gran Lolismo 7.

This is more disappointing when you consider that this was:

6 years in development
Track based racing
MS's flagship sim IP
Current gen only!!
Not even close to being as ambitious as MS Flight Sim

That game in the reveal trailer....this ain't it Turn 10.

NGL, the more naturalistic lighting and color tone looks subdued in comparison but looks better. GT looks like the saturation level is cranked up to 11.

The trackside details are a notable improvement in FM.

Current-gen only track based racing developed in 6 years
vs
Cross-gen open world racer developed in 3 years (and now a 2 years old game)

But still I am amazed how Xbox Series X performance of the game is on par with Nvidia 4900.
I was at one point itching to buy a 4900 gaming laptop, but now I think what's the point in investing so much money when even a desktop PC struggle to play recent AAA games at 60fps.

Yeah Series X has Medium track textures, no Hi res pack and 2xAF. It's very blurry and muddy looking.

FYI this comparison is wrong, one is using glossy paint, the other isn't. The car models are identical, which you can say might be a negative but then again all games like GT etc use legacy models all the way back from the PS2 days.

They're the same paint, the user who took it confirmed that.

But theres more:

FM is suppose to be black but its light greyish.
