Meanwhile, Blizzard is against XIM adapters but cannot do anything without the cooperation of Sony and MS.

The Overwatch team objects to the use of mouse and keyboard on console.

We have contacted both first-party console manufacturers and expressed our concern about the use of mouse and keyboard and input conversion devices.

We have lobbied and will continue to lobby for first-party console manufacturers to either:

Disallow mouse and keyboard and input conversion devices

OR

Openly and easily support mouse and keyboard for ALL players

I encourage you to reach out to the hardware manufacturers and express your concerns (but please do so in a productive and respectful way).

Currently, we cannot do anything about players using input conversion devices to use Mouse and Keyboard on console.

However, we have put serious research and development against this problem and we're hoping to have a solution to what we consider to be unfair circumstances. This is a priority for us and we're trying to combat this through technology and policy.

We'll keep you informed on our progress and any policy changes as soon as they develop.

For now, please avoid reporting this behavior.

And I was told it was upto the developers :(

It's up to the developer to block the use of kb/m adapters.

If his statements were true, no other game would be able to ban the use of XIM adapters. Fortnite did it. Moreover, the Overwatch dev's posts are dated before Mike Ybarra's clarification.

Indeed, straight from MS.

Notice how he responded by saying "We could". Its clear that Blizzard has also expressed concerns and they want the console manufacturers to do it. If the intent is there on both sides why hasn't it been done yet? While the developers and hardware manufacturers point fingers at each other, the people who buy the game and pay to play online have to deal with these cheaters.

Moreover, here is what the creator of XIM himself had to say:

"The console still talks directly to its controller—there is no USB ID (i.e. VID or PID) that can be used for detection," Mark told me in an email. "XIM will pass through all USB communication that’s not input-related to and from the controller (this includes audio, security communication, etc.). But, when the console asks for input, XIM replies on behalf of the controller. XIM will ask your mouse, keyboard, and controller for input and 'translate' that into controller state and send that back to the console when asked."
The hardware manufacturer has a crucial role to play here.

On the other hand, Sony is officially sponsoring these devices while the community clearly wants the people using them to be banned: https://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-...p/B07MFN1QCS?ref_=bl_dp_s_web_2593656011&th=1

Apex isn't safe from this cheating either. This is a console wide issue. Clearly people and developers are not happy with the current state.

Apex Legends console players who use a keyboard and mouse have been put on notice.

All of this is complicated by the XIM Adapter, widely available from major retailers, which is meant to aid users who need alternative control schemes but also fools the Xbox One into thinking a keyboard and mouse setup is a gamepad. That’s how KB/M users can get the aim assist. It’s been a big problem (predating formal keyboard-and-mouse support on the console) for games such as Overwatch and Fortnite.

Respawn community reps said that it would soon implement matchmaking that forced cheaters and spammers to play in matches with one another, with the goal of quarantining their behavior away from legitimate players. Obviously, Apex Legends could simply put keyboard-and-mouse console users in matchmaking with PC players, but that still doesn’t answer the XIM adapter question.

Respawn isn’t saying anything beyond Friday’s brief announcement. “We’ll revisit this and talk about progress with detection and how we’ll address players that are using it in the near future,”

A proper detection method clearly does not exist (Epic should make the world a better place and share their secret sauce lol) and the console manufacturers arent doing anything to help either.

It's not cheating at all, though, as I said before. Blizzard may consider it as such, but neither Sony nor MS see it as cheating, and for good reason. It's like Capcom asking for a ban on arcade stick usage on consoles because it can give Street Fighter players an advantage over those who use a controller. It's like the Project Cars devs asking for a ban on racing wheels because it gives players an advantage over those who use controllers. It's like Namco asking for a ban on flight sticks on consoles because it gives Ace Combat 7 players and advantage in dogfights.

Everyone who complains has the option to go out and buy a XIM adapter + mouse/kb, a Scuf/Elite controller, an arcade stick, a racing wheel, and a HOTAS flight stick. If one considers it an unfair advantage, the option to even out the odds exists. Accessibility is a great thing, and options should never be taken away from consumers.

Heck, Sony sells an officially licensed product that does exactly what the XIM adapter does, just as there are officially licensed arcade sticks, racing wheels, and flight sticks. These are all peripherals.

What's next? VR players have an advantage in Wipeout multiplayer against non-VR players because they have head-tracked camera control?

No one's stopping non-VR players from getting a psvr if they feel that way.

Here's what your favorite Jim Sterling had to say about the use of PS Move in Killzone 3 on ps3:

Sounds good to me. While they're at it, let's get a patch to keep PlayStation Move users on their own server. Using that thing is more or less cheating, really.

Not to sound rash but using keyboard and mouse in games like overwatch gives an unfair advantage . I prefer overwatch over paladins just cuz of this reason . I only play with my fellow Xbox gamers who have same controller as me .

Blizzard disagrees. Epic disagrees. Respawn disagrees. Golabucha disagrees.
Fixed :hah:

Game studios can show their disagreement by not releasing their games on consoles, then. Because Sony/MS are not of the same opinion. Heck, MS might include native mouse/kb support on the next Xbox.

P.S. Last I checked (which was quite a while ago), Epic did disable the use of the XIM adapters, so what is their disagreement now? Did Sony/MS make them re-enable it?

Paladins match make you based on your input controls, so a controller guy will never play against a keyboard/mouse one.

I have checked it numerous times . Even after selecting Xbox only or gamepad only .it was filling me up with keyboard players . The game is beyond broken .i checked it 3 days ago cuz the new champion io got my attention but the game occasionally crashes .too many bugs and the issue that I wrote in first sentence .
with overwatch I don’t have to deal with any of this drama .

Its not a foolproof method and more of a temporary fix which like you said, doesn't always work.
