MULTI Evolve Stage 2 is now free-to-play

Turtle Rock Studios, the team that has brought hits like Left 4 Dead and development for Counter-Strike, is revealing their new next-gen shooter Evolve, published by 2K Games. The reveal is made through the latest issue of Game Informer along with the launch of its official game website, though not many details are listed on the game's website at the time of writing.


Evolve is a multiplayer-based sci-fi shooter that allows four players to battle against a player-controlled monster that can grow into a bigger threat as game matches progress. The crew of four will act out as alien hunters, each possessing unique abilities and items to fight against a single but deadly enemy.


Game Informer notes that Evolve will develop the game with "variety and replayability in mind," offering players a set of "cooperative and competitive multiplayer elements that's unlike anything we've played before."


Evolve will be available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC later this fall.

[h=2]Evolve delayed to February 2015[/h]


Turtle Rock Studios' shooter Evolve has been delayed to Feb. 10, 2015, publisher Take-Two Interactive announced in an earnings release today. The game was originally planned to hit on Oct. 21.


Take-Two did not provide a reason for the delay of the game, but said the extra development time will benefit the developer behind Evolve and called February "a favorable release window." Developer Turtle Rock recently held a closed alpha test for Evolve on PC.




The multiplayer shooter from the original Left 4 Dead studio was due to arrive during a month that was previously crowded with game releases. But with rival publisher Electronic Arts also pushing titles Battlefield Hardline and Dragon Age Inquisition out of October, the month is starting to look much lighter.


Evolve pits four human (or humanoid) characters against a giant, player-controlled monster in a battle for survival. The game is coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC.


Update: A 2K Games representative provided the following statement to Polygon following Evolve's delay.


"As stated on the Take-Two Interactive earnings call, 2K and Turtle Rock Studios are extending the development of Evolve by a few months to allow enough time to fully realize the vision for Evolve and meet our collective standards of creative excellence. We are encouraged by the press reaction and fan excitement coming out of a very successful E3, and we are now certain we are headed in the right direction with the game and we are confident in delivering a genre-defining product when Evolve launches on February 10, 2015."

[h=2]Evolve gears up for another alpha test[/h]


For those who missed the limited alpha test of Evolve on PC back in July, developer Turtle Rock says another is coming, and invitations for it will be given out soon over the title's social media channels.
Visitors to the 2K Games booth at PAX Prime this weekend have gotten the opportunity to register for the closed alpha. For everyone else, chances to get in will be broadcast over Evolve's official Twitter feeed, Facebook page, and on Turtle Rock's forums.

[h=2]Evolve closed 'Big Alpha' kicks off Halloween weekend[/h]


Turtle Rock Studios will hold its "Big Alpha" for 4-vs-1 multiplayer shooter Evolve Halloween weekend, the developer announced today.


The alpha will first be available on Oct. 30 to Xbox One users. "Limited access" for PlayStation 4 and Windows PC owners begins Oct. 31. Each version of the alpha will run until Nov. 2. Those interested in participating can register for priority access on Evolve's site; anyone who pre-ordered the game is guaranteed access to the alpha on their specific platform.



Evolve was initially planned for release on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC Oct. 21. The game has since been delayed to February 10, 2015. According to Turtle Rock co-founder and design director Chris Ashton, the developer still has "a lot of work ahead of us in the coming months."


"We need to stress test the servers and the matchmaking system, look at balance, unlock rates, etc," Ashton said in today's announcement. "The alpha test is not fully representative of the final product, but it's our chance to see what the game looks like in the real world, and we will test again in the open beta for Evolve exclusively for Xbox One in January 2015. The data gathered in the tests will help make Evolve the best that it can possibly be when it launches."
