Elden Ring [OT] Shadow of the Erdtree expansion announced

"As somebody who's played all of Miyazaki's games over at least the last decade, this is clearly the most ambitious game that he's done," he says. "I mean, I love his games, but seeing some of the gameplay mechanics stuff that he's tackling, he and the team are tackling this time, of the setting, working with another creator in terms of story. I love it."

The other creator Spencer mentions is, of course, Game of Thrones author George R. R. Martin, who has worked on the story for the upcoming open world game.

According to Spencer, Elden Ring is Miyazaki "expanding his horizons." He also says that leaves the room while Spencer plays. "I think that's because I'm a bad player, and then when he comes back we'll have a conversation about things that I think," he says. "He's so passionate about what he does. It's one of the things I just love about getting to work with him on some of these games and seeing them come to our platform."

"expanding his horizons."

This is exactly what I want from From Software. Breaking away from the tired Souls formula got us Sekiro so this sounds great. Really hope we get to see gameplay soon.

This boss has quite a lot of health for the early game. It’s best to leave him and come back when you are Level 30+ and have 7-8 flasks to heal/regen mana.
This boss is better tackled later when you are Level 50+ and have 8+ Flasks. At the start of the game he would be too difficult.
lol @ level 30+ and 50+. Both the Crucible Knight and Agheel are really easy (I was level 20 when I faced both with no weapon upgrades and 5 flasks), and typical Souls game bosses. Not sure what's up with Powerpyx, but maybe enemies have level scaling?

Spoiler: show

Still rolling with the default Warrior class scimitar, but the rapier is my go-to weapon in Souls games. Will give it a try and see how it works here.

I don't know. Bloodborne was pretty easy but he had trouble with it too 🤷‍♂️

I've defeated several "mini" bosses so far without levelling up and they've all been pretty easy.

Tree Sentinel
Beast of Farum Azula
Stonedigger Troll
Flying Dragon Agheel
Grave Warden Duelist

I see why reviewers love this kind of game. It is filled with tons of secrets and nitty gritty details that a one week review copy helps a media publication do plenty of videos and articles. Guaranteed views.

From Soft. Really can't, no surprises there.

Besides From is not the only Jap dev that cant do PC development proper, almost all of them struggle at it.

The most important question I guess is this, do people want to play said Jap games ? Do they get so excited for them that they hurry up and start fixing them ? Are these games critically and commercially successful ?

Yes, yes and fkin' yes.

:p

It is unfortunate that Japan has been so behind when it comes to software development. I think even Korean and Chinese have come a long way. Implementation of ultraeidescreen and high refresh rate is like a magic for these Japanese studios.

It is good thing they have a few great game directors left. Other than that they are reduced to mobile development. Capcom is last great multfranchise studio left in Japan.

From software got help from Activision during Sekiro development or else it would have been a disaster too.

9 hours in this game and still in the first area. Got so many things to do and explore. A few elements here and there might get to you but once past the early stages I think the game really begins to shine.

Not gona lie.

Almost broke my controller once xD cause why not, its a souls game xD

tbh gaming industry as a whole is failing much like tech industry. They have buckled down too much to Corporate suites then relying on passionate and innovative people. A corporate only believes in financial growth and shareholders.
