Oi, you bums! What's going on?

Actually, the truth is that Eclipse is shutting down and entering hibernation mode.
Effective immediately, Amagami SS is dropped, having reached the end of the Sae arc, and while we're going to finish Kaichou wa Maid-sama!, doing so is going to take us a while.
After that, we'll stop.
Nowai! You're trolling, right?

Yes way.
It's about time.
We've been fansubbing for 5 years straight by now (starting in October 2005), and most group members have finished their university stint and entered the proud workforce, or are currently in the middle of final examinations.
Which means we have next to no time to spare for fansubbing.

We've been struggling with this for quite a while and still somehow managed, but now the remaining last translator has decided that he wants to retire, for a compelling reason he prefers not to publicly disclose.
And a fansubbing group without translators is slightly handicapped.
“Publicly disclose”? What are you talking about?

Sorry, let's try again with simpler words: It's not your frigging business why he wants to stop, so we won't tell you.
Capisce?
Damn! Couldn't you have asked some other TL to finish Amagami at least?

Actually, we already asked others for help to get as far as we got (thanks, bb!), and our friend Kunio-kun from Static-Subs had already taken over Kaichou wa Maid-sama!, so it would have been impossible to ask any more of him.

Sorry, guys.
We tried.
But look at it this way: Due to the arc format, no consistency is lost if you switch over to other groups.
And there are some very nice non-Eclipse releases out there.
Hey, no problem! I am/know an awesome translator and will take over!

No, you won't.
Throughout all the years, we've been an extremely small group, and starting with a new team would be too different.
It's time to retire the Eclipse label.
Besides, it's not like the staff members are out of the world.
We'll soon see the resurrection of at least one very ancient label, and who knows what else might happen in the future…
Then let's start a joint project! We translate…

Which part of “No!” is difficult to comprehend? The only exception to this is Static-Subs, with who we'll always do a joint on request.
That won't change.
Baah.
So eventually you did succumb to industry pressure!

Nope.
In fact our elitist pride has always been offended that we never once received a C&D throughout all the years.
Not one, while other groups got so many! Nothing to pin at the wall and laugh at! So unfair! And that one takedown notice went to our former hoster, so that didn't count.
So what's gonna happen to Lurk Central?

Oh, you mean our IRC channel? Don't worry, we're only in hibernation, we're not dead.
It will stay on.
And I think we'll finally get the proof that the people coming there were seeking peace and quiet rather than anime releases.
And the bots? I love them!

At least eclipse|hinagiku will remain, so getting old releases will be easy.
For our older shows we did before we moved trackers, we'll soon make batch torrents and put them on our website without public announcement.
This way, every completionist can get whatever he needs, even with us asleep.
I'm from another fansub group, and you've always been so kind to provide us with something we mustn't talk about.
Is this going to hibernate, too?

No, we're planning to continue to provide this service to active fansub groups for the time being.
Should this ever change, we will give you enough lead time to organize alternatives.
Sheesh, about time that you arrogant pricks bite the dust! I always hated your guts!

Yeah, we totally can't stand them either!
Bwaaah! Ohmigosh, what am I going to do without Eclipse? Such misfortune!

Touma? Get back to work, Index 2 is about to start airing!
So this is really it? Any last words?

It's been a blast, and we thank our fans for their loyalty and support! In general, most of the process of fansubbing is tedious work, and vain creatures like us live for the praise and applause we get for our releases.
Now that you are going to watch the work of other groups, don't forget to give them proper kudos the same way, it does matter.

Some of us will just graduate and grow up, while some others will take on a new task: shaming the so-called “professional” labels committing visual atrocities (fartout goes to Q-TEC) and trying to polish select good animes to a form which fans can watch without convulsions.
And who knows what might happen in the future? As always, we reserve the right to change our mind any time!

Well then, that's it! After…

0 Cease and Desist letters and

1 lousy Webhoster takedown notice in

5 years of activity, we produced

317 Gigabyte worth of releases in

1,386 released files, which were downloaded

31,524,214 times via torrent causing more than

8,629,000,000,000,000 byte (that's over 8.6 Petabyte!) of completed torrent traffic, it's time to say “So long, and thanks for all the fish” and return home for dinner with Belldandy.

Eclipse was an amazing group, I loved all their releases and their joint productions with StaticSubs were mostly flawless! In fact, SS-Eclipse was the group which subbed the 3rd anime that I watched, which was "Clannad" and Clannad was the first anime that I watched with subs. They did an amazing job for it. I am really happy that I had the privilege of watching their fansubbed version of Clannad.

Well, I hope they sometimes do a project or so with their friends over at Static Subs. 5 years that's a lot of work, a job well done!

All hail the releases of Eclipse! They were one of the best speed-subs group.
