Yep, got a reply from the ptclcares gent; said they were aware but cannot peer directly due to "certain limitations" and that they were working on it.

Maybe transworld would be better in that regard?

Just checked, TW peers directly through and through to Datamena like PTCL does in Singapore with starhub. If optimized, which I think they (valve) will start soon, expect <100ms easily.

Nup? Wat dat ?

But yeah thats sick; heres hoping that the transworld thing makes PTCL switch things up faster. What i don't understand though is that Transworlds landing partner is Etisalat (according to their website) for Dubai - if that is the case, direct peering should be a non issue for PTCL as well, as long as they free up bandwidth to "send" towards dubai routes, correct?

New Dubai Server Opened For Testing Purposes

PLEASE READ
The Dubai datacenter is finally online. Some of the links took a lot longer to get provisioned by our providers than expected. We will be turning on the region in a couple of weeks. But be warned that connectivity isn't going to be ideal initially. We are still waiting on other providers to come online to provide better local connectivity and connectivity to India. If you want to start testing things out, please send me tracert's to dxb.valve.net

u can ping to dxb.valve.net the routes are in a work in progress so u might have ping for the time being....

Valve haven't started anything from their end as well. Everything is via level3, checked from a couple of locations.

yeah, i just saw your post on the dev forums.

there are 2/3 weeks to work out all the kinks though, so transworld probably won't be an issue, but PTCL will be =/

question from the edited part of my post above;

what i don't understand though is that transworlds landing partner is Etislaat (according to their website) for Dubai - if that is the case, direct peering should be a non issue for PTCL as well as logn as they free up bandwidth to "send" towards dubai routes, correct ?

I am not so sure about that, TW's routes to etisalat are via singtel while they're direct in case of datamena, I think their provider is datamena not etisalat.

As for PTCL, idk... But yes they can explicitly route the dxb server cluster so only it goes directly while rest of the transmission remains via EU.

Look, i don't know this technical stuff, but if you don't figure this out, heads will roll.

I contacted PTCLcares about the ping issue to SEA.. He seemed surprised to hear that resetting the modem sometimes lowered the ping by 100 or even 200. Let's see what they do about it.

thats odd.

in regards to pings though, everything goes to shit in the evening in terms of latencies; getting something obscene like 500ms to EU and 150-200 to SGP.

Guys, please make a list of the SEA server IPs when you play later today. IP + tracerts would be great. Post them here as image files.

IP can be checked in the console when the game starts. Screenshots can be taken using the Snipping Tool (its built into windows).

SEA server problem is not network related from what I can see. Same IP:different port is giving variable ping. Have forwarded details to milton, he'll check em today/tomorrow.

As for Dubai servers, first datamena link will come online so good news for TW ISPs. Etisalat link (this one will help PTCL users) will come online after datamena but no ETA.

This was the IP:port of my last game (from which I disconnected). Ping was 530.

103.28.54.44:27037

Now, why can't we ping the above IP, sans port?

So in reality, there are only TWO SGP servers? These IPs mean nothing?
Lol no there are basically two server 'clusters':
103.28.54.0/23 which == 103.28.54.1 - 103.28.55.255
103.10.124.0/24 which == 103.10.124.1 - 103.10.124.255

Now all these servers host DOTA2 and CS:GO servers, a single server (one IP) hosts multiple game servers (on different ports).

Why do we ping 103.28.54.1 or 103.10.124.1? Because the servers on each cluster have similar network configuration (in short, routing etc). The problem that we're having is limited to 103.28.54.0/23 cluster and its I think related to server configuration from Valve's end which milton will check and confirm tomorrow.

So thats an issue on valves part for that range of servers, otherwise im assuming we're still at ptcls mercy for the spike in pings during the evening?

Whenever I tracert in the evening its the final result to valves server that goes up to 150 from the usual 80 ms; there are no latency spikes visible on the local hops (everything stays within normal parameters until the final hop which shows the increase in latency).

Nothing one can do about that, its due to congestion at PTCL's provider in Singapore (as per PTCL).
