Playstation DMC4 on PS3 requires PC-Like Installation

We did find one annoying feature with the PS3 version. The game needs to install a large chunk of files on the PS3's drive, and it takes quite a lot of time (roughly 20-30 minutes by our count). This obviously only happens the first time you play the game, but it's still quite a jarring experience to be faced with a PC-like install process on a console game.

erm, you guys do realize the game installs to load the area's on the fly ? it'll be interesting to see how the 360 SKUs that don't have HDD's keep up.

you guys should listen to the last 1upyours podcast, they previewed the ps3 version, the game is designed so that outdoor lush forests and then entering a very elaborate hall etc is all done on the fly, no load times at all.

i agree with chandoo its really going to be nice to have no load times at all from one environment to the other but still seriously it duznt even take a pc game 40 mins to install and im sure DMC4 isnt supposed to boot frm the HD

this was the preview build so this is probably temporary, they'll most likely impliment a optional install for the final game like NG Sigma has

I'd rather have 10-20 secs load screens... Huge games like Bioshock, HALO and recently Assasin Creed only have 1 load time on the start of a particular mission, then you can roam where ever you want freely.

and come to think of it, that used to be the main difference between the PC games and Console game... that you dont have to go through the installation procedure on console, It feels like a step backwards....

but DMC4 has a traditional room based loading scheme, there's a small loading every time you go in a new room/area. It's kinda annoying in these days so if it's possible to remove those loading it can positively affect gameplay too.

Although its bad when you look at other games like Uncharted, which only creates a 2.5 MB swap file, no permanent install, and is completely streamed off the disc, there's even no black screen for the cutscenes, everything runs seamlessly.

Capcom had a demo session for Japanese press earlier this week where the game's producer confirmed that the PS3 version will have quicker load times due to the ability to install to the hard disk

Quicker load time... Installation will not remove loading altogether.... which means that 10 sec load will be reduced to 4-5 sec but it still will be there.... Annoying ???? Isnt it ?

not really, we havent actually seen the loading times across the board yet, if i recall there are a bunch of 360 which has massively slow loading times as well, the demo's coming early next year. We'll know soon enough.

Also, i still dont think capcom are that stupid enough, if tecmo can impliment an optional install system for NG Sigma, so can capcom.

If it remains optional then I don't think so there is anything bad in that, however in NG sigma case I didn't heard much load time improvement stories with/without installation feature, ofcourse there would be some improvement as HD access time is very fast anyway.

If capcom makes the DMC4 installation feature on PS3 optional and if the installation gives around 50% or more reduction in the load time (I assume that games only load once for the whole level/stage..independent of the halls and rooms shit), then I think it's worth waiting for 20 mins for one time to enjoy the whole game without the annoying high load time.

Anyway, if capcom failure to implement the "Optional Install" feature then everyone have the right to bullshit about it as not everyone likes to waste his/her 20 mins for sitting in front of the TV screen like a retard.

DMC is the kinda game that loads at every single new area, so good luck with that LOL.
