actually all behind this gaming headset is to for me to relieve my depression. I have battled it for a year now and it is quite tough. One way to ease this mental condition of mine is to play games.
My family offered that I should see a counselor. I wanted to but still hesitant. Do you have experience talking to one? How was it helpful?
That is awesome that you have acknowledged the issue and want to get professional help. Mental health is THE most important thing, please don't take it lightly. We have an excellent family and social system in islam and in Pakistan. While socialising helps a lot, sometimes we NEED professional help. There is literally no harm in seeing a Psychiatrist / Psychologist. They don't tell you what to do, they just listen to you, ask requisite questions, navigate to the problem and make you realise what your issue is and make you come up with a solution. If you don't like it or agree with them, don't follow up, see another one. But DO seek professional help.
Psychiatrist= MBBS Doctor who then specialises in Psychology. Can prescribe medicine if required.
Psychologist = M.Sc. Psychology then specialisation course.
BTW taking your mind off of overthinking or depressing thoughts works and gaming is one of the activities that you can do. Also take up gardening; Allah has made nature very peaceful and nurturing plants and seeing them grow is very rewarding for the soul, it's a good pastime. Take hikes, historical sightseeing trips etc. Don't know which city you're from but there is a group in lahore that arranges bicycle trips to beautiful sites of historic or other significance. Similarly, there are hike trails in Islamabad, boating trips in Karachi with crabbing, also windsurfing and parasailing etc. But THE best cure for depression is Namaz and Zikr-e-Illahi. When you leave everything on Allah, then the peace of mind that you get is so serene.
Best of luck my bro, stay healthy, may Allah give you complete shifa, ameen.
Allah Shafi.
