[h=2]Destiny's next update includes enhanced colorblind support, more audio controls[/h]

Over the past few years Bungie has spent lots of blood and treasure to ensure that Destiny can be enjoyed by as many people as possible. Take for instance the care with which they animated the first-person camera to reduce the incidence of motion sickness. Now, they're taking another pass to make the game more playable for those who suffer from colorblindness.

In an update posted today on the official Bungie blog several members of the Destiny team chimed in to discuss how they've been working to solve issues reported by colorblind players.

"Adapting the existing user interface to support various colorblind modes turned out to be a fairly complex challenge," said Brad Fish, user interface engineering lead. "We managed to build a flexible toolkit for our designers that helped them do just that with minimally-invasive surgery."

Most players see Destiny's game world as shown in the picture below.

But players with the most common form of colorblindness see the game world this way.

By tinkering with contrast, Bungie's artists have been able to give colorblind players in-game cues that don't solely rely on color, as seen in the image below.

David Candland, user interface design lead, said that once the appropriate mode is turned on in Destiny's menu settings, colorblind players will have a better chance of grabbing the appropriate loot and picking the right weapons on the fly. The same kind of attention was given to the game's HUD, allowing colorblind players to "gain a more distinct clarity, [improve] their environmental awareness [and] helping them avoid that unintentional exotic dismantle."

Update 1.1.2 will also add audio sliders that will allow players to adjust fireteam chat volume relative to in-game audio, and mute the game's soundtrack entirely.

But Bungie still has a soft spot in their heart for their award-winning musical score.

"We've added a fun little audio Easter egg to the game," said Jay Weinland, Bungie's head of audio. "It’ll be in there, somewhere. Once the update is live, see if you can find it."

Just bumped into 3 more Pakistanis from Europe. I guess I'm not getting off Destiny that easy now.

Also the bad luck of never getting any exotics from nightfall continues!

Well I have been getting shit from Nightfalls as well since the last 4 weeks.

Last Sunday, a friend invited me to join him up for the Gorgon's Chest and I had never gotten anything other than class items from that chest and that day...it blessed me with MIDA Multi Tool! After just a few mins with the gun, I was instantly in love with it. Have been using it since then. I would say not even Red Death was able to impress me this much, last gun which immersed me in the game was FateBringer.

Shut up and stop making me regret not buying MIDA when it was available on Xur's list several weeks ago and I didn't buy it even though I had twice the required coins.

Shit!

[h=2]Destiny's Inferno mode returns to the Crucible this week[/h]

Bungie is mixing up Destiny's competitive multiplayer this week with the return of Inferno mode, the variant Crucible mode that emphasizes kills and team communication by way of a few key changes. Inferno mode launched in Control playlists in February, and this week it's coming to Clash.

Clash, Destiny's six on six team-based multiplayer mode, will get an Inferno playlist this Tuesday, March 31, Bungie announced today. Inferno removes the game's radar from each player's HUD, eliminating the advantage of knowing when there's an enemy player nearby. Inferno also focuses scoring purely on kills — you don't get any points for assists or any other scoring event — and reduces the number of heavy ammo drops to one.

Bungie listed the multiplayer maps that will be part of Inferno Clash, which is the same as Inferno Control. They are:

  • The Anomaly
  • Firebase Delphi
  • Twilight Gap
  • Rusted Lands
  • Shores of Time
  • Blind Watch
  • Asylum
  • The Burning Shrine
  • The Cauldron
  • Pantheon

Inferno Clash kicks off in Crucible on Tuesday, March 31, at 2 a.m. PT alongside the weekly reset in Destiny.

[h=2]Bungie bans 'toxic' players from Destiny matchmaking, making some strikes easier[/h]

Bungie says it's working to improve the player experience in Destiny's strikes and raids in a number of ways: tackling the worst bugs that affect raid bosses, making some strike bosses a little easier and banning some toxic players from matchmaking with others. In a new weekly update, Bungie goes into how those specific changes will affect Destiny.

At the top of the list are bug fixes related to boss encounters with Crota and Atheon, as well as the minions that players have to contend with in raid boss fights. That should make those raids a little easier, or at least less frustrating, when those fixes hit in version 1.1.2 of Destiny.

Bungie is also making two strike bosses, Valus Ta'Aurc (pictured above) and the Psion Flayers, a little easier too. The bosses of Destiny's Cerberus Vae III and Dust Palace strikes on Mars are being tweaked in an effort to get more players to complete those long, difficult missions.

"Our goal was to ease the difficulty for the least-completed strikes," Bungie production engineer Brenton Woodrow said. "In order to do this, we focused on the final boss encounters, which were fairly lengthy on higher tiers. We addressed this by reducing the strength for several of the major combatants. We also felt that the bosses themselves could use some tweaking. We reduced Valus Ta'Aurc's health by a third and reduced the Psion Flayers' shields by about 15 percent. We locked these changes after several playtests with the designers and feel that they bring these encounters in line with the rest of the Strikes."
Finally, Bungie said it's temporarily "a small number of the most toxic players from matchmaking," due to chronic idling in competitive and cooperative multiplayer.

"Sitting idle in Strikes and PvP has been on our radar for a while now, but it's become clear that a small number of the worst idlers are responsible for damaging the experiences of thousands of other players," Bungie's John Hopson said. "One player not contributing in an activity might seem like a small thing, but it can make a Weekly Heroic Strike unbeatable or make a Crucible match unwinnable. Those little bits of damage to the experiences other players adds up over time."

[h=2]Destiny's new Item Lock will protect against catastrophic weapons loss[/h]

Players who accidentally dismantle precious gear in Destinyare to be offered a useful fix.

On the Destiny blog today, UI Engineer Daniel Hanson talked about a new way to lock down precious gear, so it's not accidentally deleted in moments of absent-minded clear-outs, or by pesky kids playing where they ought not.

"One recurring story we keep seeing involves Legendary and Exotic gear getting accidentally dismantled by errant pets and over-enthusiastic children," said Hanson. "We decided to empower players to protect their precious gear with Item Locking."

To protect something in inventory from being dismantled players will be able to highlight the item and click down on the right thumb-stick. It will remain locked until explicitly unlocked.
[h=3]Ammo Changes[/h]In other update news, ammunition's role in Destiny player-vs-player matches is also changing, with ammo drops set to become rarer and high damage weapons more limited.

On the blog update, Kevin Yanes, Bungie designer of the PvP Crucible arenas, answered some questions about the new direction and how it has worked out in play-tests.

He said that the team wants to make Special ammo a more precious resource in Crucible, solidify Heavy ammo's role in the Crucible and "further improve the balance of encounters" by limiting high-damage weapons.

"We believe that making ammo more scarce and important will provide players with more choices and more memorable encounters in Crucible," said Yanes. "Special Ammo will spawn less frequently, it will take longer to pick up, there will be less crates located on the map, and the bricks you find will provide you with less ammo."

Full details will be provided in forthcoming patch notes for update 1.1.2, which has not yet been given a release date, but was described as being "weeks away" last month.

Yanes talked about significant changes like widening heavy ammo drop team radiuses, creating despawn conditions when players sit on crates and extending the inbound timer by five seconds. He described how play sessions have changed in testing.

"Internally, we've seen the arrival of Heavy Ammo create short bursts of intensity in a match that eventually reverts back to the neutral game. We think the transition back to regular gameplay is super important because it gives the team on the losing end of Heavy Ammo distribution a chance to rally back."

Damn. Haven't talked on this thread long. Ahhhh Suros. Mida is great, I am leveling it up so I can solo the first part of the ce raid for the lulz. The armour this time around isnt that bad. That hunter helm was the last one I needed for my collection and def needed that bad ass chest for my titan. Already have rest of the stuff. Yet to see how suros is in PvP. Haven't used an Auto rifle since I got thorn and tlw

For some reason I could never adjust myself to TLW, even though I was craving for it when I didn't have it. For PVP, my "The Devil You Know" is still king. I logged into Destiny PVP last night after a long hiatus of a vacation and boy does that thing kill.

I guess the reason I couldn't get used to TLW is because it generally requires close-mid range combat. Whereas I'm a largely mid-to-long range player and prefer weapons where I can land each shot with precision. TLW somewhat takes away the precision and slightly adds the feeling of 'spamming'. It's still got the sexiest animation for a weapon in the game though.

[h=2]Destiny's House of Wolves expansion arrives May 19[/h]

Destiny's second expansion, House of Wolves, will be released May 19, publisher Activision announced today.

That's about four and a half months after the first expansion, The Dark Below, which launched Dec. 9. The launch date for House of Wolves falls during Activision's previously announced second-quarter release window, and is the exact date that was rumored in a February leak. Destiny itself was released Sept. 9 on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One. House of Wolves is the second and final expansion in the game's $34.99 Expansion Pass; purchased separately, the two expansions cost $19.99 each.

Bungie said earlier this year that it hopes it will fix some of The Dark Below's mistakes with House of Wolves. In particular, the studio doesn't want to invalidate hard-earned raid gear with items you can just buy from vendors, or force players to re-upgrade exotic weapons. Instead, Bungie is aiming to "lessen the grind and get players to the fun parts of their arsenal faster," according to designer Luke Smith.

House of Wolves may send players to the Reef in the Asteroid Belt, according to a late-February leak. It would be a new social hub for Guardians to hang out in, a second area beyond the Tower in The Last City on Earth. The leaked information for House of Wolves also mentioned a new Awoken storyline and a third raid, plus three new Crucible maps and another Fallen strike. The Dark Below added one new strike to Destiny as well, but it included an additional strike (and other content) exclusively on PlayStation platforms.

With each of the two February leaks, Bungie advised Destiny players that all House of Wolves content is "placeholder" and is subject to change until the studio officially announces the details. But the expansion's prologue, which you can watch above, seems to confirm the leaked information. In a voice-over, the Queen of the Reef invites Guardians to hunt the Fallen who betrayed her people, the Awoken, after the Awoken gave the Fallen a home in the Reef.

Following House of Wolves, Bungie will put out a "major content release" for Destiny later this year, Activision announced during an earnings call in February. In the meantime, you can read our review of The Dark Below, an expansion that we felt was "just as grandiose and ultimately shallow as the main game,"

[h=2]Destiny's next expansion, House of Wolves, won't include a new raid[/h]

Destiny's second expansion, House of Wolves, will not bring a third raid to the game, developer Bungie announced today.

"We didn't make this decision lightly. Our team has been humbled by the reception of Raids in Destiny and we are creating a new Raid for a release later this year," said Bungie. Destiny publisher Activision revealed during an earnings call in February that Bungie is working on a "major content release" for Destiny that will be available later in 2015. Destiny launched with one raid, the Vault of Glass, and the first expansion, The Dark Below, added a second raid called Crota's End in December.

Instead of a new raid, House of Wolves will introduce a different type of endgame content with a new cooperative battle arena, the Prison of Elders. It will be "focused on variety, replayability, and skill," according to Bungie. The description suggests that the Prison of Elders could resemble a wave-based "horde" mode.

Bungie plans to discuss specifics of House of Wolves in live events scheduled for the next three Wednesdays. The calendar will begin April 22 with a walking tour of The Reef and details about the upgrade path for legendary and exotic gear. According to a late-February leak, the Reef is a new social area akin to the Tower. On April 29, Bungie will reveal the Trials of Osiris and show live gameplay footage of its endgame gear. The Trials of Osiris is rumored to be a three-on-three Clash event in the Crucible. The Prison of Elders will be the focus of the May 6 stream, while an unannounced event is planned for Friday, May 8.

Bungie announced earlier today that House of Wolves will be released May 19 on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One. For more, check out the expansion's prologue below.

[h=2]New Destiny patch fixes raid bugs, makes strikes easier, expands vault[/h]

Destiny developer Bungie is now rolling out a big update that fixes some pesky bugs in both raids, increases vault space and lowers the difficulty of two strikes, the studio announced today.

The patch, which brings Destiny to version 1.1.2, makes good on Bungie's intentions as expressed in a blog post last month. Players' vaults can now hold as many as 24 pieces of armor, 36 weapons and 24 general items (each increased from 20 slots). However, as previously announced, the greater capacity comes with a compromise for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 players: They'll no longer be able to compare items within the vault because of the last-gen consoles' memory limitations.

Update 1.1.2 also adds new visual modes for players who suffer from various types of colorblindness, as well as audio options that will let users mute Destiny's original score. A new item lock feature prevents gear and weapons from being accidentally dismantled. Guardians can now choose to wear their helmets while in the Tower. Eris Morn's bounties now offer higher rewards for Crota's Bane reputation. And Xur will once again sell heavy ammo; that was a bug.

Bungie also made some notable changes to a couple of Martian strikes and to both raids. In Cerberus Vae III, the studio reduced the strength of the boss, Valus Ta'aurc, by 33 percent, and lowered the number of major enemies. In the PlayStation-exclusive Dust Palace, players will see weaker shields on Psion Flayers and fewer majors overall.

Swords in the final battle of Crota's End will now last 30 seconds after being picked up, and Bungie fixed a glitch in which they'd occasionally vanish after a Swordbearer was killed. Plus, Crota will fully stand up before he swings his sword now. Fixes to the Vault of Glass include a more consistent hit rate for shield relic melee attacks on Minotaurs.

For more on update 1.1.2, including Crucible changes, check out the full patch notes on Bungie's website. Destiny publisher Activision announced yesterday that the game's second expansion, House of Wolves, will be released May 19. House of Wolves won't contain a new raid, but you can still watch its prologue below.

[h=2]Destiny's latest patch mined for new details on what might be coming in House of Wolves[/h]

Bungie released a new update for Destiny earlier today, and it didn't take long for players to dig into the new patch (version 1.1.2) to mine new details on upcoming changes and learn more about next month's House of Wolves expansion.

According to a roundup on Reddit, it looks like Bungie plans to add two new social spaces (Queen's Bay in the Reef and Halls of Amentet), at least one new strike against the Fallen, three story missions, three quests and three new Crucible maps. A raid is listed, but Bungie has already announced that it won't ship a new raid in House of Wolves. Instead, it looks like The Prison of Elders, a new cooperative battle arena, will serve as a replacement of sorts for the expansion's endgame content.

The post in the Destiny subreddit also includes mention of a new multiplayer map set on Phobos, one of Mars' moons, and dozens of new ship schematics.

More details and descriptions of each strike are available on Reddit, and it appears that many of those details line up with previous leaks and data mining efforts. However, Bungie has warned curious Destiny players in the past that "anything you know about [House of Wolves] can change." The only aspects of House of Wolves that Bungie has confirmed are that the expansion will include The Prison of Elders and Trials of Osiris, as well as upgrade paths for existing legendary and exotic gear.

The House of Wolves expansion will be released on May 19. The add-on's prologue trailer can be seen below.
