Right so im in a bit of a pickle here..
Iam Cs student currently in 3rd semester of DHA Suffa University now due to a few mishaps around me i ended up scoring waaaay too bad in a few of my courses which are Assembly language and Linear Algebra :( a bummer for me indeed. Now what i want to ask is if iam to drop these courses right now and then retake them during the summers(semester break) or the next semester , i'l get a W (withdraw in my mark sheet) and as most say the subject itself will be excluded and will not effect my GPA. However I wanted to know if there might be some other consequences which i may face later on in my practical life for dropping out on 2 subjects.?

you didnt score good in linear algebra  ?
I'll find you and I'll kill your gf

well in uni you have to complete your credits numbers first , and second if its an elective you can drop it and take it whenever you want or not if your credit numbers are enough ,
but as required marked subjects you must have to take them and clear them for the degree, but you can drop them n take them later ,
but there are some subjects that you have to take care to not to drop for long ,
like we cant take calculus 2 unless we clear calculus 1 ,

and ask your teachers that is there anyway that you can improve your gpa in these courses, because we in uni get chance to improve our gpa by taking that course again ,
and these two courses are required so , you can either improve it or drop them for coming semeter :)

I am not sure about DHA Suffa but in NED UET, if you score less than 2 GP on any subject, you can improve that subject in the summer or in the next semester.

I'm from Iqra Unviversity. Nothing will be happening to your life. Here we have very bad bad teacher, she doesn't give sectional marks, i ended up dropping Probabilty & Stats course, she just give bad grades, There is another teacher who is good enough, who gives students their deserving grades.

However, You can later take them.

My uni allows me to retake the courses if you withdraw from them however they grade you with a W in your marksheet and your gpa remains unaffected by the courses that you dropped :p however i wanted to that while applying for MS in Germany or so , will they consider this as a margining factor.?

I'm sure 'W' will not be displayed in actual transcript.

I too once applied scholarship for germany, all they need is the required band, subjects of your BS should meet the MS course requirements and a good GPA (even people with 2.7 got scholarship)

It doesn't impact that much in your practical life. No one will give a dime whether you have a W or not. However, there are few things that vary from university to university regarding 'Withdrawal' courses. So do confirm these from any senior student of your university
  • Withdrawing a course in some universities means that even if your CGPA is highest in your batch, you will be disqualified to receive gold medal(which is awarded to the topper of the batch)
  • Withdrawing a course in a semester can save your grades but it will be displayed on your official transcript.
  • Yes, you can cover these courses during summer in order to keep your degree duration to 4 years or take extra course in the upcoming fall semester.
If you ask me, if getting a gold medal is not in your list then don't withdraw these courses. Both of these courses are somewhat non-existent in the actual BCS field. I'd have recommended you to retake the course if it was Java or any programming related course.

You're safe to drop 'em if you are sure about the courses being offered in summers but if you're considering picking them in the upcoming semester make sure there ain't any subjects which require your dropped courses as prerequisite.

And one has to have 3.5 gpa or above to secure a decent scholarships abroad.

AFAIK i have heard you gotta have gpa above 2.5 If it's in 3's very good... above 2.5 works...
gpa is crap anyway, people who konw more get less and those who don't get more xD ... i don't think they'll require a high gpa like 3.5 or so

Damn that's true. More skilled people don't get good marks whereas ratta-baaz get more. Few of them are like both.
If it's 3. Then I am in. _/\_
