How possible it is for a Charted Accountant to ,later on , get in the fields of business i.e Marketing ,Management or analysis ? (Ofcourse after have more qualification like MBAor ,cima etc)

for example ..after getting CA or ACCA get some accountancy and audit experience for membership then trying to get some other qualification

You asked the question and answered it yourself ! :D

Well many people do ACCA and then do MBA in any field that they want. Its a good strategy because these days MBA's are in good demand whereas ACCA on the other hand is dropping in value since too many ACCA's in the market. However havent seen many CA's go into MBA though.. Probably because CA takes around 5-6 years to complete, whereas ACCA takes 2-3 years. Hence more time available.

Actually I wanted to know that would this be acceptable in market ?? Do people DO that ?? I've been confused about it recently ...Do Unis take students from accountancy into Marketing or Management MBA ... because anyone I talk to says only MBA finance makes sense after ACCA !!

Well not alot of people do, but ofcourse there's no restriction though. Universities like IBA do take ACCA/CA students for MBA courses.

In most circumstances a CA qualification is enough to grow within an organisation. However, trends have been changing in Job market and employers are actively seeking already qualified CAs (experienced) for Managerial positions including CEO and CFO. Since, these positions require certain skills that are not already learnt through CA coursework people aspiring to get these positions do complete a MBA degree and become eligible for these roles. Though, if you are currently in the process of qualifying it is better to focus on that only as relevance of a MBA degree (and a Major) would only come to you 5-6 years after articleship. As, then you would be able to decide your prefered sector and business type.
Regarding eligibility for MBA admission, I think you would already get a Masters Degree from Punjab university upon CA completion so would be eligible to apply in all top tier universities in Pakistan (not sure about foreign universities).

thanks for brief reply ..
Actually am in ACCA hopefully my final attempt in June ...
actually I'm thinking the same ..to start of in finance ,audit and accountancy related experience then later on(3-5 years) switch to business and management area after doing an MBA .. Because I don't get excited about accountancy and audit i.e standards and finance .. like I get excited about management ,marketing ,strategy and decision making.. I don't want to get stuck into Accountancy forever ...

Should I see some career counselor ?? @alamode @

Yeah sure.. You should discuss it with some of your seniors/teachers.. they will also be able to guide you properly.

These days MBAs are in good demand. CA is still up there but most organizations feel CA's/ACCA's dont have the presentation/communication skills etc. On the other hand, MBA's and BBAs give alot of presentations and are better groomed then CA's/ACCAs.

ACCA + MBA in finance is a very good combination in my opinion

This indeed is s situation when you should consult people close to you and also working in industry. BTW accountancy is not all about audit and financial statements and you may join advisory and consulting but before all this you should realise what actually you want to do I.e the thing that excites you. Once, you have your direction settled you could work towards achieving it including gaining a mba in particular domain. You still have time to realise this before you end up in a job that you would forever despise. So call up a meeting, sit together with your parents and relatives who are in industry and establish your interest and goals. On a lighter note watch 3 idiots! :)
Best of luck.

On my first day at CAMS orientation, the speaker said that you can go for MBA after ACCA to excel, but he also told that do not go for MBA Finance, because it like repeating of what you already know... try some other major.
If you want to have management and business strategy career, then why after 3 year of audit experience... go for it from start... like, Management Trainee ...

exactly what I been thinking .I've already studied finance in and out ..
but problem is I don't want to jump in MBA right after ACCA .. I want some experience before ,some exposure to understand things better ... I would go for finance and industry experience rather then audit ...

Good universities like IBA require 2 years experience before starting MBA anyway so its best to get experience before you go for an MBA
