Sorry for the click-bait title but I'm really curious about my problem here. Let's start with some hard facts :D

Laptop: Dell Studio 1747 (bought in 2010. Yeah it's pretty freaking old.. but hear me out!)

Specs: Core i7 QM720 (1st gen I think), 6GB RAM, 2x 320GB HDD, Windows 10 Pro (legally activated).

Problem: Well, the laptop is slow. I did a fresh install of Windows last week, I disassembled my laptop entirely to remove all dust and gunk... and yes there was a lot. It's already running pretty quiet. But the main problem lies in how quickly programs open. My assumption is that the Hard Drives are in need of replacement. Why? I believe one or both of them has bad sectors. And I know for sure that bad sectors cause nasty slowdowns.

QUESTION: Is there any way I can effectively check (and repair) bad sectors? Command prompt with "chkdsk /f" is something I have already tried and it shows nothing.

QUESTION 2: Does my laptop support SSD Drives? Is it logical to make a HDD replacement for such an old laptop?

Bohat bohat shukriya in advance aap sab ke ta'awun ka :D

Check with hd tune complete scan.
I believe it does support SSD. SSD is always a better choice over HDD especially in laptops as 5400rpm hdds in laptops really sucks

It probably supports SSDs. Replace your HDD with a 250 or 512GB SSD and you'd be set.

HDD regeneration can recover bad sectors, but not guaranteed.
Yes, Laptop do support SSD. I'd just replace the HDD with SSD. The only better and quality solution to HDD.

your mainboard could also be responsible for the slowdown.. check for overheating issues/graphic glitches-twitching/

like others above, SSD is the best way to go abt your speeds, but i would rather you first eradicate your problem before purchasing anything. r u using dd3 1067 bus or 1333? ur model seems very old, so try and see if the memory bus is also at the highest bus rate. disk tune is a good sotware for bad sectors as well as partition magic also shows these results quickly.
